The first annual Global Citizen Festival Hamburg has been announced and some big names are set to his the stage this summer. On Tuesday (Feb. 28), the international advocacy organization announced that Coldplay, The Chainsmokers, Ellie Goulding, and Herbert Grönemeyer would headline the one-day event. The musicians will invade the Barclaycard Arena in Germany on July 6 to perform at the free-ticket concert series.
The concert is set to happen the day before the 2017 G20 Summit where world leaders will gather to discuss Global Goals for Sustainable Development. For those wanting to see the show, a total of 9,000 free tickets will be given out to fans who demonstrate a passion for activism. To be considered for the free tickets, potential attendees need to sign up on Global Citizen’s website, take action, and then enter the raffle to get tickets. Considerations will begin on March 14.
In addition to the music, concert-goers or “Global Citizens” will meet up prior to the event to demand that leaders attending the summit agree to address issues of education, health, development, and the refugee crisis.
“It is truly inspiring to see so many people come together and take action, participating in these essential conversations, and holding world leaders to account,” Ellie Goulding said in a press statement. “After joining the Global Citizen Festival on stage in New York last summer, I am incredibly excited to continue the journey of sustainable future free of extreme poverty by performing in Hamburg.”
This will mark the first Global Citizen Festival to take place in Europe. Over the past six years, there has been a festival in the United States and in 2016, the festival made its debut in both Canada and India.
