Get ready because the Menzingers are releasing a brand new album later this year. On Monday (July 15), the Pennsylvania-founded act announced the upcoming release of their sixth studio effort. Dubbed Hello Exile, the album is due out Oct. 4 through Epitaph Records. Pre-orders for the record are currently available for purchase on the band’s website.
Hello Exile is the follow-up to 2017’s highly successful (and much-loved) After the Party.
For this album, the Menzingers reconnected with previous collaborator Will Yip. Yip previously worked with the group on After the Party. According to a press statement, the four-piece spent a month working with Yip on the 12-track LP.
“This is the longest amount of time we’ve ever worked with [producer] Will [Yip]. We wanted to make sure these stories didn’t get lost in the music, so we kept it to a lot of room sounds with the guitar and bass and drums.”
To coincide with the new album announcement, the group decided to treat fans to a small taste of the album by releasing its lead single. Listen to “Anna” above.
In a statement, frontman Greg Barnett reveals what led to the band selecting “Anna” as the record’s first single.
“You know, it was kind of a tough decision, but we just thought that it was a great summertime song.”
He continues: “It’s super-hooky and super-catchy. We went back and forth with some of the songs, but at the end of the day we’re just really excited about ‘Anna.’ This is a very storytelling album, and I think Anna is a pretty good representation of the rest of it.”
Because a new album and single weren’t enough, the Menzingers have also unveiled tour dates for later this year. Their upcoming North American fall tour will find the foursome performing at venues across the continent.
The 33-stop trek includes shows in Detroit, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Phoenix, Dallas, Atlanta, Tampa, Toronto, and more. The fall tour begins on Oct. 25 at the Athenaeum in Columbus and concludes a month and a half later on Dec. 7 at the House of Blues in Boston.
Tigers Jaw and Culture Abuse will join the Menzingers on select dates.
Tickets for the upcoming tour go on sale this Friday, July 19.
