Pharrell’s ‘Happy’ Was Originally Recorded By Someone Else

We all know at this point you either love of hate Pharrell’s infectious song, “Happy.” The Despicable Me 2 Soundtrack song and lead single from his new solo album Girl, has had a long ride on the charts and on the radio, but could you have imagined it being sung by let’s say, Cee Lo Green?

Well, it turns out that the song was originally recorded by the former The Voice coach.

“Cee Lo Green wanted to do it and he did do it,” Pharrell revealed to Howard Stern in a recent interview when the DJ asked if he would have ever given the song to certain musicians to perform.

“He sounded amazing on it,” the producer continues blaming the vetoed decision on those higher people who make the choices. “He burns my version! But, how do I say this diplomatically? The powers that be, at the time, did not see it fit for him. Some folks on his team just felt that the priority should be on Cee Lo’s album at the time [2012’s Magic Moment ], so they elected not to do that song.”

But don’t count on there being any bad blood between them over the issue.

“There was a much bigger agenda for Cee Lo, he had an album to put out,” Pharrell says. “It’s not his fault; he was totally down with it. He was one of the most gracious people about it when “Happy” came out.”

Now, is there anyway we can hear this version in the near future, Pharrell?

The Vatican Gets “Happy”

“Happy” has been burning up the charts, and if you are one of the few people who find the Pharrell song annoying then you are not human. Today, a new video for the song has made its way onto the internet, but it does not have random singer attempting to cover the Despicable Me 2 song, rather you see nuns, priest and Catholics all dancing to the tune.

Very much like the videos like it that have been posted before, the tune is in the background while these religious people in Rome dance. The video is titled “Happy for 2PapiSanti” in honor of Pope Francis declaring Juan Pablo II and Juan XXIII saints on April 27. The Vatican has also revealed they will stream the coronation ceremony which will take place at St. Peter’s Square.

The #2PapiSanti” and “#2PopeSaints” hashtags are part of the church;s effort to help promote this event through social media.

Check out the video below and try not to sing and dance along with the song. Spoiler, it’s really hard.

Pharrell Gets Puppy Treatment

What happens when you take one of radio’s most infectiously poppy ans feel good song and give it a puppy treatment?

Let’s just say that it’s something so sweet that it might give you cavities bigger than you already have. Thanks to the people over at The Pet Collective, they have put together a video of puppies romping around to the tune of Pharrell’s Academy-Award nominated and Despicable Me 2 theme song, “Happy.”

While the song might not be the exact same lyrics as the one that Pharrell and his big Smokey the Bear hat song out during the Oscars a few weeks back or what thumps through your radio, but the new edited version makes you want to go, “aww”.

“I might be waggy, but I wanna play / I’m your best friend but you can get away / I deserve a treat ’cause I’m a lucky babe / I got hair, shakin’ the air, doggie by the day,” goes the new version of the song. No word on whether or not Pharrell actually sang the new version of the song, but you be the judge of that.

Happy Friday!
