Listen: Ice Nine Kills slow things down for the acoustic version of ‘Stabbing in the Dark’

We all know Ice Nine Kills bring the energy and the scream when it comes to their music, but what if they were to slow things down a bit?

On Friday (Oct. 4), the Massachusetts-founded band unleashed the acoustic version of their “Halloween”-inspired song, “Stabbing in the Dark.” Gone are frontman Spencer Charnas’ screams, and in are his melodic vocals singing the screaming parts softly. The track also features guest vocals from Trivium singer/guitarist Matt Heafy.

To coincide with the acoustic track’s debut, the band unveiled its simplistic music video. The almost four-minute video finds a very 1950’s-ish family gathered around their television screen to watch a sepia-toned program. The broadcast features a montage of clips from all The Silver Scream music videos as well as footage of Charnas behind bars (where he rightfully belongs thankyouverymuch).

Like a true split between generations, the mother and father are disgusted by the scenes playing on the screen while the children are all for it. Of course, leave to Ice Nine Kills to slip in a little cliffhanger at the end with the “Stay Tuned for the Double Feature ‘Thank God It’s Friday’” title card.

Last week, the band shared the music video for their “IT”-inspired song, “IT is the End“; the final music video in their The Silver Scream film series.

The acoustic version of “Stabbing in the Dark” will be featured on the deluxe version of The Silver Scream due out just in time for Halloween.

The reworked record will feature all 13 previously released tracks as well as a cover of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and a song inspired by the 1996 slasher flick “Scream.”

The Silver Scream (Final Cut) is due out Oct. 25. Pre-orders are available here.

In support of the re-released work, Ice Nine Kills previously announced a set of fall tour dates. The “Octane Accelerator” tour begins on Oct. 29 at the House of Blues in Cleveland and concludes a little over a month later on Dec. 1 at Webster Hall in New York.

The full list of dates can be found here.

Gerard Way gets spooky for ‘Baby, You’re a Haunted House’

My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way is back with a brand new song just in time for Halloween. On Friday (Oct. 26), the former frontman released his first new song in over four years. Titled “Baby, You’re a Haunted House,” the new song sounds like it could find a home on Way’s debut album, Hesitant Alien, with its Brit-pop-influenced sound.

The new tune features Way’s younger brother and former bandmate Mikey Way on bass, Tom Rasulo on drums, and Ian Fowles on guitar.

In addition to the track’s audio, Way also released an accompanying video for the tune. The almost-three-minute clip has a simple premise allowing the song to shine; Way and his band, performing on a foreign late night program decked out as skeletons.

In a press statement, Way explains that the song is “about all our inner ghosts and demons and what it feels like being in love and having to deal with your own internal horror show.” Watch the video for the new tune above.

“Baby, You’re a Haunted House” comes a few days after Way took to Instagram to tease the new track.

“New single ‘Baby, You’re a Haunted House’ out 10/26! #byahh” the musician wrote.

Way’s return to the music world should not come as much of a surprise to fans. Earlier in the year, he took to Facebook to reveal that he had plans to work on new music every Friday.

“Now, onto the music,” Way posted on Facebook. “It is far too early to have any kind of idea when new music will be coming out from me, or what it will be specifically. Would it be a solo record? A new band? Songs for the ‘Netflix Umbrella Academy’ show?”

He continues: “Something else? Again, too early to tell, but the process has started and happens every Friday at the moment. I’m in the discovery phase, and very excited about that.”

Recently, Way’s music has taken a backseat to his comic book series, “The Umbrella Academy.” The hit series will be making its transition from the pages of a book to the small screen in 2019.

During a panel at New York Comic Con earlier this month, it was revealed that the show will make its long-awaited debut on Netflix in February of 2019. The series will star Ellen Page, Robert Sheehan (“Misfits”), Tom Hopper (“Game of Thrones”), Emmy Raver-Lampman, David Castaneda, Aidan Gallagher, and Mary J. Blige.

According to a press release, “The Umbrella Academy” will follow the “estranged members of a dysfunctional family of superheroes” working together to solve the mysterious death of their father.

Steve Blackman (“Fargo,” “Altered Carbon”) is the showrunner while Way serves as an executive producer.

Tom Hiddleston Surprises Kids at ‘Thor’ Charity Screening

loki

Loki might be Thor’s evil, adopted brother, but that is the complete opposite of what actor Tom Hiddleston is.

The actor, who has been known to rock the Loki costume on several occasions even though he has said several times it’s hard to put on/wear just to see people smile and even lets little kids pretend that they have defeated him, once again put smiles on kids faces when he appeared at a kids only screening of the new Thor movie, Thor: The Dark World.

The event took place in Time Square in New York City as part of a charity event co-hosted by the New York Daily Mail and Disney. Of course in his super awesome fashion, Hiddleston greeted the surprised and excited kids with this signature Loki line, “I am Loki and I am filled with glorious purpose.”

A glorious purpose in deed.

Watch the video below and tells us you can’t help fall in love with him.

Thor: The Dark World picks up after The Avengers saves New York from Loki and his world domination plans. This time around Thor needs Loki’s help to save the world, once again, when an unbeatable force that even Odin can’t defeat tries to take over. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on November 8.
