When we tell you that music festival organizers are taking the request for more genre (and general) diversity to heart, we weren’t kidding.

On Thursday (Jan. 16), the people behind New York’s Governors Ball announced the lineup for the 2020 incarnation of the annual event. Headlining this year’s festivities are Missy Elliot, Stevie Nicks, Vampire Weekend, Miley Cyrus, Tame Impala, Flume, and a slew more.

According to Billboard, Governors Ball 2020 will be Missy Elliot’s first major headlining gig in New York in over a decade (we should also point out she released her critically acclaimed EP ICONOLOGY last year).

Joining the previously mentioned acts on this year’s bill are Solange, Ellie Goulding, H.E.R., Portugal. The Man, Rüfüs Du Sol, Summer Walker, Foals, Carly Rae Jepsen, Maren Morris, Bleachers, Danny Brown, Of Monsters and Men, Alessia Cara, A R I Z O N A, Oliver Tree, Banks, PUP, Alec Benjamin, and many more.

At the end of the three-day event, a total of over 70 acts would have performed on one of the four stages. Insane, right?

In addition to all the music-centric goodness, Governors Ball has also revealed that this year’s event will include food that “highlights the city’s best eats,” visual artists from New York City (and around the world), tons of alcohol (because what’s a music festival without alcohol?), art installations including murals, statues, and flying inflatables, and yet-to-be-announced pop-up performances.

Not a bad way to celebrate your tenth anniversary.

Governors Ball 2020 returns to its home of Randall’s Island Park in New York City during the weekend of June 5-7.

Three-day general admission and VIP tickets go on sale this Friday, Jan. 17, at noon ET.

The Gaslight Anthem announce short ’59 Sound’ tour

Earlier this month, the Gaslight Anthem were confirmed as one of the many artists set to hit the stage at this year’s Governors Ball Music Festival, making it their first show since their hiatus announcement in 2015. Now, it looks like the group is ready to hit the touring circuit once again. On Monday (Jan. 29), the New Jersey-founded act announced plans to hit the road beginning in the spring.

Set to kick off in late May, the Gaslight Anthem’s short, ten-day tour will find the group playing their beloved sophomore album, The ’59 Sound, in full during their sets. Sadly, the tour schedule only features four North American stops; their set at New York’s Governors Ball Music Festival; a show at the Rivera Theatre in Chicago; a show at Rebel in Toronto; and their kick off show at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC. The rest of the tour stops will take place in the United Kingdom and Europe.

Pre-sales for the upcoming shows will begin this Tuesday, Jan. 30, on The Gaslight Anthem’s website. Those who use the code “59SOUND” will get the chance to obtain tickets before the general public. General ticket sales will begin this Friday, Feb. 2.

The band’s plan for the short tour comes almost three years after they decided to go on hiatus. In the summer of 2015, the act surprised fans by announcing their plans to take a break stating that it was in the “best interest of the band.”

“We’d like to recharge and take a step back until we have something we feel excited about rather than going right back to making a record just for the sake of making the next record,” the band members wrote in a post to fans. “We all feel this is the best decision we can make and it feels like the right one for us.”

The complete itinerary for the Gaslight Anthem’s ’59 Sound tour can be seen below.

Eminem, Jack White, Yeah Yeah Yeahs to headline Governors Ball 2018

Eminem, Jack White, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are just a handful of artists who will be heading to New York this summer for the eighth annual Governors Ball Music Festival. On Wednesday (Jan. 3), the full lineup for the 2018 incarnation of the annual summertime festival was announced. Like previous years, this year’s lineup boosts a mix of artists from different genres making sure to satisfy everyone’s music taste.

For Eminem, Governors Ball will mark the rapper’s second major 2018 music festival appearance. On Tuesday, Jan. 2, Eminem was confirmed as one of the three main headliners for Coachella 2018. The two music festival engagements will be in support of the rapper’s luke warmly-received ninth studio album, Revival.

For Jack White, his appearance at Governors Ball just adds to the speculation that he will be releasing a new album sometime in the new year. Though White previously teased fans with a weird video, no official title or release date has been given for the new album. White’s last studio album was 2014’s Lazaretto.

For the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Governors Ball marks the band’s first major show in a long time. Back in October, the group performed their first concert in four years when they took the stage to celebrate the 15-year anniversary of their debut album, Fever to Tell.

In addition to Eminem, Jack White, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, this year’s Governors Ball lineup also includes acts like N.E.R.D, Silk City (Diplo and Mark Ronson), the Gaslight Anthem, Halsey, CVRCHES, Cut Copy, Galantis, Japandroids, Third Eye Blind, Vic Mensa, LANY, The Menzingers, Wolf Alice, The Struts, and Sir Sly.

Governors Ball will mark N.E.R.D’s first show in New York since 2010. The Pharrell Williams-led act recently released their critically acclaimed fifth studio album, No_One Every Really Dies.

For The Gaslight Anthem, 2018 will mark the ten-year anniversary of the release of their sophomore, and much beloved album, The ’59 Sound. To celebrate the record’s anniversary, the band will perform the album in full during their time slot at the music festival. The album went on to be named eMusic’s “Best Album of 2008.”

Three-day general admission tickets, as well as VIP passes, are currently available at a special “announce day” price. Regular ticket prices will resume at midnight on Jan. 4. The 2018 edition of Governors Ball Music Festival will take place during the weekend of June 1 – 3 at Randall’s Island in New York City. For more information about Governors Ball, head on over to the music festival’s website here.

Tool announces handful of new tour stops

New pic from Tool's Facebook

Earlier this year, news broke the Tool would be reuniting for a handful of music festivals during the spring months. Now, several months after the music festival announcement, it looks like the band is ready to hit the road for their own, proper tour. On Monday (March 13), the California-founded band unveiled a handful of tour dates. The upcoming tour dates will coincide with the band’s previously scheduled appearances at Boston’s Boston Calling in May and New York’s Governors Ball in June.

The headlining tour announcement may not comes as much of a surprise to fans. Last week, the band’s Facebook was updated with an image from one of their shows and a caption which read “TOOL TOUR DATES HEADS UP.” For many of the cities included on the short list, it will be the first time in a decade that the band will perform there. The tour will kick off on May 24 at the Eaglebank Arena in Fairfax, Virginia and wrap up a few weeks later on June 8 at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. Pre-sale tickets for those in Tool’s Toolarmy will go on sale beginning this Wednesday,  March 15, at 10 a.m. PST. General sales will then begin this Friday, March 17, at 10 a.m. local time.

With a tour scheduled for the spring/summer, it may be assumed that Tool is in the middle of finishing up their highly anticipated new album. Sadly, there doesn’t seem to be any major updates on the new record. It has been confirmed that frontman Maynard James Keenan has already started recording vocals, so maybe a title and release date reveal may be in the near future. The current in-the-works record will be the follow-up to 2006’s 10,000 Days. For now, Tool tour itinerary can be seen below.

TOOL’S SPRING/SUMMER 2017 TOUR DATES:
05/24 – Fairfax, VA @ Eaglebank Arena
05/27 – Bangor, ME @ Darling’s Waterfront Pavilion
05/28 – Boston, MA @ Boston Calling
05/30 – Rochester, NY @ Blue Cross Arena
05/31 – Hamilton, ON @ First Ontario Centre
06/02 – Montreal, QC @ Bell Centre
06/04 – New York, NY @ Governors Ball Music Festival
06/05 – Pittsburgh, PA @ Petersen Events Center

Governors Ball 2016 Lineup Unveiled

The Governors Ball just revealed the complete lineup for the 2016 incarnation of the annual event. On Friday morning (Jan. 8),the New York-based music festival unveiled the complete lineup for the three-day festival. Upon looking at the lineup, it would appear that two Governors Ball veteran performers will be returning to Randall’s Island in June.

The first veteran performer confirmed was Kanye West. The rapper’s last appearance at the festival was three years ago. West’s top-line billing comes hot on the heels of him releasing two new songs, “Real Friends” and “No More Parties” on Friday. The two new tracks will apparently be part of his G.O.O.D Fridays campaign which he recently relaunched.

Much like the rapper, New York’s own The Strokes will also return to the Governors Ball stage this year. The band have reportedly been working on a new album, the follow-up to 2013’s lukewarm-received album, Comedown Machine. The Strokes last played Gov Ball two years.

In a crazy, or maybe a major PR stunt, Beck will also headline the event. As most of us remember from last year’s Grammy’s, West’s encounter with Beck was not exactly a love affair, even if the rapper did apologize for his stunt. We assume all the backlash he received help that apology come materialize. Hopefully, the stunt will remain in 2015, like many other things.

Also slated to make the journey to New York that weekend will be The Killers, who are in the early stages of writing new material; M83, who will return after a two-year performance hiatus; Death Cab for Cutie; CHVRCHES; Big Grams (Big Boi and Phantogram); De La Soul; Against Me!; and many more. The official poster with all the artists can be seen below.

Fourth Annual Governors Ball Schedule Released

image

Houston, we have major problems and it looks like whoever the people were who planned the schedule for this year’s Governors Ball is to blame.

The Governors Ball, which already revealed it’s long list of high-profiled artists including Phoenix, Vampire Weekend, Jack White, Skirllex, Foster the People, Discloure and many more have just unveiled its schedule and there may be a lot of conflicting acts that the audience would like to see.

Outkast and Damon Albarn will be closing out the night so that is probably the big issue on the first day. Honorable mentions include TV on the Radio or Grimes; Neko Case or La Roux; and Julian Casablancas or Jenny Lewis.
Saturday, the issues continue with audience member needing to pick between Jack White and Skrillex. (we’re bias, we’d go with Jack White especially since he follows The Strokes; their first festival show in three years and they never go out on tour or anything). Sadly, The Strokes will be  up against Childish Gambino. Honorable mentions for Saturday include Spoon or Sleigh Bells; Disclousre or Broken Bells; and Defheaven of Tanlines.

As for Sunday, there doesn’t seem to be any big conflicts except for Tyler, the Creator playing against AlunaGeorge and Banks playing opposite Wild Belle. No big since you will be able to see Vampire Weekend close out the entire weekend-long fest.

The schedule is currently not up until Friday on the official website for the festival, but you can go ahead and find over at the festival’s mobile app or Clashfinder

The Governors Ball is set to take place during the weened of June 6-8 at randall’s Island Park in New York City. Tickets are still available if you feel like taking a spontaneou trip to NYC and go to a festival.
