Slam Dunk 2019 add Bullet for My Valentine, Simple Plan, Saves the Day

Bullet for My Valentine, Simple Plan, and Saves the Day are just some of the latest additions to the 2019 Slam Dunk Festival lineup. On Tuesday (Nov. 20) festival organizers took to social media to announce the addition of 11 more acts that will make their way to the United Kingdom for the annual, springtime music festival.

“Being asked to headline Slam Dunk off the back of Gravity is a massive compliment on how diverse our band is, we’re very happy and honored that we get regarded as a headliner for Slam Dunk,” Bullet for My Valentine frontman Matt Tuck told Metal Hammer about the recently announced news.

Mirroring Tuck’s sentiment is Saves the Day frontman Chris Conley: “We are so excited to play Slam Dunk next year! It’s always a blast to come overseas and sing Saves songs with all our fans. See you soon!!”

In addition to Bullet for My Valentine, Simple Plan, and Saves the Day, Glassjaw, Knocked Loose, the Get Up Kids, Turnstiles, Tiny Moving Parts, the Menzingers, I Don’t Know How But They Found Me, and Slam Dunk veterans Trophy Eyes will round out the second wave of performers.

The newest additions will join previously announced acts All Time Low, NOFX, New Found Glory, Waterparks, Story of the Year, Gallows, Mad Caddies, and Silverstein on the upcoming event’s roster.

The weekend-long music festival will take place on Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26. The first day of the festival will take place at its new Leeds home of Temple Newsam Park while the second day will place at Hatfield Park in Hertfordshire.

The Used announces fall tour with Glassjaw

After a much-needed break from touring, The Used has announced plans to hit the road once again later this year. On Monday (Aug. 21), the Utah-founded band unveiled plans to hit the touring circuit later this fall for a month-long trek across the country. The upcoming tour will kick off on Oct. 27 at The Masonic in San Francisco and wrap up a month later on Nov. 29 at the Showbox SoDo in Seattle.

Pre-sale tickets for the shows will go on sale beginning this Tuesday, Aug. 22 while general public ticket sales will begin on Friday, Aug. 25 at 10 a.m. local time. The group will be offering both regular tickets and VIP packages for the upcoming excursion.

Joining The Used on the bill will be Glassjaw. The Daryl Palumbo-led band recently hit the road with Coheed and Cambria for their ‘The Color Before the Sun’ tour and even teased the possibility of a new album. So far, no other comments have been made about the group’s new music.

As for The Used, the group spent most of the past year touring around the world with stops in Europe, North America, and Australia to celebrate their 15-year anniversary of a being a band. To celebrate the momentous occasion, they played two-night engagements at each tour stop. During the first day, they performed their self-titled debut and on the second night performed their break-through sophomore album, In Love and Death.

The Used’s last studio album was 2014’s Imaginary Enemy while they released their live album, Live & Acoustic at the Palace just in time for their 15-year anniversary tour. While the band has been hush about new music, they did post on social media that they would be releasing a new song on Monday. For now, all fans can do is wait and check out the list of upcoming tour dates, which can be seen below.

Riot Fest Chicago and Denver lineups announced

The Riot Fest Twitter account is probably one of the funniest to read with the way they troll people who are always complaining about the lineup of the three incarnations. On Wednesday (May 18), festival organizers shut up the hater when they unveiled the first wave of bands for both the Chicago and Denver shows. Earlier this month, news broke that the original lineup of The Misfits would reunite, and perform, at Riot Fest Chicago. Now, it’s been confirmed that they will not only perform at both Chicago and Denver dates, but that they will be in good company.

Riot Fest Chicago will feature a slew of artists including: Morrissey; Ween; Social Distortion, who will be performing 1996’s White Light, White Heat, White Trash in full; Rob Zombie, who will be performing White Zombie’s final album, Astro-Creep: 2000; Death Cab For Cutie; Brand New; NAS; Deftones; Refused; Death Grips; the Descendents; The Specials; Chevy Metal aka Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins’ side-project; and Girls Against Boys.

But those are not all the groups making their way to Chi-town in mid-September. Acts like NOFX, Bad Religion, The Hives, Leftover Crack, Smoking Popes, Pepper, Big D & The Kids Table will also play Riot Fest Chicago. While Riot Fest has been boosting the Misfits reunion, the 2016 incarnation will feature other groups reuniting. Thursday will continue their handful of reunion shows, while Underoath announced earlier this year that they had reunited and would be releasing new music soon. The Daryl Palumbo-fronted Glassjaw reunited earlier this year to head out on tour with Coheed & Cambria and will now be heading to Chicago to continue. Set Your Goals and the Anniversary are also set to reunited during the weekend-long event. While some bands are making their grand return at Riot Fest, this marks the end of Motion City Soundtrack who revealed that they will head on one final tour before calling it a day later this year.

Like Chicago, Denver will feature a lot of the same bands like The Misfits, Ween, and Death Cab For Cutie. Unlike the original Riot Fest location, Denver will feature exclusive  performances from Sleater-Kinney, Jane’s Addiction who will perform Ritual De Lo Habitual, Wolf Parade, and Tyler the Creator.

As of now, festival organizers have confirmed that this is the first wave of acts, with many more to be announced soon. The complete list of performers for Both Riot Fest Chicago and Denver can be seen below.

Riot Fest Denver (aka Riot Fest & Rodeo) will invade the National Western Complex during the weekend of Sept. 2-4. Riot Fest Chicago will take place tow weeks late during the weekend of Sept. 16-18 at Douglas Park. Early bird tickets are currently available on the festival’s website.

Glassjaw Return with New Single

It’s been 13 years since Long Island’s Glassjaw released their last studio album (2002’s Worship and Tribute). With that being said, it didn’t necessarily mean that the band had been on hiatus since that last record. Instead of full-length albums, they decided to forgo the typical 15 tracks and just release a couple of EPs in its place. On Tuesday (Dec. 1), things changed when the band released their first new song in over a decade; “New White Extremity.”

The new song made its official debut early Tuesday morning on NPR. NPR, like many other music publications, are teasing that this might be the lead single off of the group’s highly anticipated third studio album. In NPR’s quick write-up about the song, and the band, they claim that this is a “promise of a new, as-yet-untitled record, with no release date, no label information and no band line-up other than founding guitarist Justin Beck.”

While there has been no official confirmation about a new album, Glassjaw frontman Daryl Palumbo did reveal to the publication that this is a song for those who waited patiently for the band’s return. “This is a song about walking out of your front door. Thanks for the [patience] and we hope you enjoy.”

Glassjaw will be hitting the touring circuit next year as direct support for Coheed and Cambria on the band’s 2016 United States tour. The upcoming tour is schedule to begin on Feb. 22, 2016 at the House of Blues in Boston and wrap up a little over a month later on March 27 at the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver. Inaugural Wrecking Ball Fest Revise Line-Up Time Slots

Ever wish you had the power to change a music festival’s schedule just because certain artists that you would like to see play at the same exact time?

This seems to be one of the biggest issues with music festivals that have line-up that feature great artists, but a crazy scheduling process.

As much as you complain about the time slots conflicting, festivals and their organizers really don’t care and in a way tell you to take it or leave it.

Well, as it turns out, there is a music festival out there that has taken the attendees complaints to heart and decided to change their daily schedule.

Wrecking Ball revealed today an updated daily schedule after listening to fans complain about the time slots conflicting.

Why would you have both main stage performance times start and end at the same time? Same for the other two stages.

It looks like the Atlanta festival decided it would be wise to change the times on the schedule so concert goers can at least see 15 minutes of the main bands later in the evening.

The Wrecking Ball Festival will hit Atlanta during the weekend of Aug. 8-9. The festival is in honor of Atlanta concert venue, The Masquerade, celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Taste of Chaos Tour Resurrected

Ladies and gentle-dudes who grew up in the mid-00s, Taste of Chaos is back!

For anyone who grew up during the era of “emo bands,” Taste of Chaos, the sister traveling festival to Warped Tour, was definitely something you wanted to go to. Unlike Warped Tour, TOC concentrated on heavier bands like Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet For My Valentine, Atreyu, and many more.

In 2010, fans of the festival were given the saddening news that it would no longer exist, at least in the United States.

Fast forward five years, and now it has been resurrected from the festival funeral home.

Founder Kevin Lyman had been hinting at a resurrection over the past few weeks, but did not confirm whether the festival would return or if he was just being a troll.

Surprise, it’s back, but with some changes.

Instead of traveling across the country like it had done in the past, Taste of Chaos will stay stationed at the San Manuel Amphitheater Festival Grounds in San Bernardino, CA.

But if its return is not enough to get those dark hearts of yours beating, then the newly announced line-up will do the trick.

Newly reunited Thrice, Jimmy Eat World, The Used, Saves the Day, The All-American Rejects, Dashboard Confessional and more are all slated to hit the stage on Oct. 3.

While the line-up may not be completely heavy, like the past incarnations, it’s nice to see that some veteran TOC bands (Thrice, The Used, Story of the Year) will be featured on the line-up.

Tickets for Taste of Chaos are scheduled to go on sale beginning Monday (June 22) on their official website which has yet to formally launch. Tickets start at $25 and for those are into camping, the festival will be offering accommodations for that.

Inaugural Wrecking Ball Festival Reveal Complete Line-Up

If you’re a fan of “alternative rock” music and are looking for a music festival that’s a little different from the ones the United States has to offer, you might be interested in a brand new festival slated to make its debut later this year.

Earlier today, it was announced that a new music festival named the “Wrecking Ball Festival” will hit Atlanta in August of this year. But before you assume it has to do with Miley Cyrus because of the name, check out the line-up and you’ll see it has nothing to do with the tabloid staple.

Acts like Coheed and Cambria, The Descendents, Glassjaw, The Get Up Kids, the Movielife, Title Fight, and the recently reunited Thrice, will be heading to Atlanta to celebrate the first year of the (hopefully) yearly event. We will admit, we’re a little jealous it’s not happening in our backyard.

The festival is to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Atlanta’s The Masquerade where a lot of musicians have stopped by to perform at. The event will take place during the weekend of August 8-9.

As the poster points out, two-day passes and VIP tickets will go on sale beginning this Monday, April 6 through Ticketmaster. If you so happen to live in Atlanta and wouldn’t mind the trek to The Masquerade, then tickets can be purchased at the venue’s box office.

Apparently, the festivities will kick off with a punk rock pre-party featuring guests like Greg Hetson (Bad Religion), Eric Melvin (NOFX), and Derek O’Brien (Social Distortion).

The only question now is, where do we sign up?

Daryl Palumbo Debuts Electro New Song

Former Glassjaw and current Head Automatica frontman Daryl Palumbo, has released a track titled, “Don’t Leave Me.” The highly electro-pop influenced song sounds as if it may have been stuck in a time machine from the 80s and somehow ended up in 2013.
