Coldplay’s New Album Might Be Their Last

Good news, Coldplay fans; the band will be releasing a new album.

But sadly, the good news also comes with some bad news; it might be the band’s last record, at least according to frontman Chris Martin.

Martin was on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show earlier in the day to celebrate the band’s song, “Magic” from Ghost Stories, being named the “Hottest Record of the Year.”

While on the show, Martin revealed that less than a year after releasing Ghost Stories (which was released earlier this year), the band had headed into the studio to record some new music. What came from that recording session would become their seventh album which at present time is tentatively titled, A Head Full of Dreams.

While discussing the record, Martin compared A Head Full of Dreams to the final Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, giving the impression that this might be the band;s final record.

“It’s our seventh thing, and the way we look at it, it’s like the last Harry Potter book or something like that. Not to say that there might not be another thing one day, but this is the completion of something,” said Martin.

He added, “I have to think of it as the final thing we’re doing. Otherwise we wouldn’t put everything into it.”

Even if the seventh album does become their last, one thing Martin has promised fans is that they will be heading out on tour in support of the record which we can assume will not be like the Ghost Stories tour which only included six stops, worldwide.

Check out the full interview below or skip to the 3:15 mark where they start speaking about the new record.

Coldplay’s sixth studio album, Ghost Stories will hit store tomorrow with new tracks since 2011’s Mylo Xyloto. Even though the album is new, the band gave fan a one week head start, letting them stream the album on iTunes Radio.

According to frontman Chris Martin, the new album is a lot more personal that their previous ones, but when your life isn’t going to well with a looming divorce, writing your feelings in songs might be the best cure.

In honor of the release, the group were given a primetime special by NBC titled, Coldplay: Ghost Stories where they performed many of their new tracks as well as some of their classics. The hour-long program was pre-recorded back in March in Los Angeles in front of an 800-person audience; intimate setting considering they were playing arenas during their last tour in support of Mylo Xyloto.

While we do not have the full one hour of the show, you can check put some of the highlights of the night below.

Coldplay Currently Streaming ‘Ghost Stories’

Coldplay’s new album Ghost Stories is set to be released next week, but the band are letting fans listen to the new album, in its entirety, right this second.

The British band have already dropped several tracks from the new record since its announcement was made, so this does not come as a complete surprise. Before the streaming was revealed, Coldplay had released lead single “Magic,” “Midnight” “A Sky Full of Stars,” “Oceans” and most recently, “Another’s Arms.”

Without giving a listen to the album yet and taking the words from other publication who have reviewed the upcoming record already, it seems that a lot of the new tracks are in some way about frontman Chris Martin’s split (conscious uncoupling?) from his wife of ten year, actress Gwyneth Paltrow.

Also in honor of the new album’s release, the band is set to perform on a primetime TV special on May 18 at 7 p.m. set to air on NBC titled, Coldplay: Ghost Stories.

Give Ghost Stories a listen to over at iTunes Radio and tell us how you feel about the new songs, too melancholy or just enough given the frontman “situation.”

Coldplay Unveil Second Single

Another day, another Coldplay track has been revealed from their upcoming new album Ghost Stories.

The album, which came out of nowhere, but led to thrilled fans is set to be released on May 19 and has already had a couple of tracks released from it including first single, “Magic.”

Today, the band have revealed the official second single from the album, “A Sky Full of Stars.” The single will be available for download beginning May 3. Listen to the new track below.

Recently, during an interview an interview with BBC Radio 1 DJ, Zane Lowe, frontman Chris Martin revealed that he had been kicked out of the band once before. Before any assumptions would be made that it was by the rest of the band members, it was actually by their producer, Brian Eno. Eno attempted to bring the other band members’ confidence up and though that kicking Martin out for a few weeks would do the trick. The booting took place after the release of their third album X&Y.

Also during the interview, he spoke about his recent separation from wife, Gwyneth Paltrow and how he hadn’t been happy in a longtime. But that wasn’t the only thing leading to the split for Martin, he also revealed that personal fears were standing in the way of his happiness.

Coldplay to Perform at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend

With Coldplay’s announcement last week that they would be performing six intimate shows in total around the world in support of their upcoming new album, fans of the group are hoping that the six show are not the only ones. This morning, Coldplay fans in the United Kingdom were given good news; they will be performing ta this year’s BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend.

The free show takes place is Glasgow Green On May 24 and 25 with Coldplay performing that Saturday, the 24th. The news came when the band were at the radio station to perform a few songs including a new one titled “Ocean.”

“We’re very thrilled to be asked, thank you so much… We’re all pleased to be here, I speak for everyone when I say that,” said frontman Chris Martin.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have been asked to play Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Glasgow this year. Playing in Glasgow is always so much fun and Radio 1 have always been wonderful to us so it couldn’t really be any better!” drummer Will Champion followed up.

Also performing at the annual event will be Pharrell Williams, The 1975, Paolo Nutini and Rita Ora. The weekend will officially begin on Friday, May 23 with Radio 1 personalities, Annie Mac, Pete Tong, Zane Lowe and Danny Howard, hosting a massive party with a line-up of DJs.

But if you are thinking about heading over to Glasgow for the show in an attempt to get into the event, sadly all 50,000 tickets that were available for the show were given out in just 35 minutes. It’s not Lollapalooza speed, but still, that’s something. As of now, the full line-up for the show has not been revealed, but according to source, it should be revealed sometime this month.

For now, listen to the live version of their new song “Ocean” from Ghost Stories.

Coldplay Release Black and White “Magic”

Coldplay had revealed to fans some good news last month which was soon followed by the sad news that frontman Chris Martin and his wife, Gwyneth Paltrow would be separating, citing “conscious uncoupling.” We still have no idea what that means, but we wish them all the best in the relationship department.

But even with the sad news, Martin needed to keep marching on which found him playing guest mentor on The Voice last week and now, a new music video for their upcoming new album’s lead single, “Magic.”

In the video, Martin plays the role of two magicians; a young and chivalrous one and an older, drunk, and abusive one. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon star  Ziyi Zhang plays the role older magician’s assistant who is repeatedly abused and talked down to. Of course, the younger Martin, came to the rescue and saved her from the mean old man.

Coldplay’s upcoming new album, Ghost Stories is set to be released on May 16 through Atlantic Records.

Coldplay Perform Two New Tracks at iTunes Fest

Last night, Coldplay took to the stage to perform at the inaugural iTunes Festival at SXSW. During their set, the band went on to perform two new songs from their upcoming, surprise new album Ghost Stories.

The tracks are titled “Always in My Head” and “Another’s Arms” which both can be heard below.

The British band announced they would be releasing their sixth studio album after releasing two new tracks on the internet. When the first song, “Midnight” was released, not much was thought about it since the band had previously released a singular track the year before for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Soundtrack.

When they released a second song off the album titled “Magic,” it was confirmed by them that a new record will be released this May. Ghost Stories marks the first new album with new music since 2011’s Mylo Xyloto.

Coldplay to Release Sixth Studio Album

Coldplay have revealed two good pieces of news to get their fans through their nasty Monday morning blues.

First, the band revealed a brand new single titled, “Magic.” Then they followed up the new single, by announcing that “Magic” will in fact be featured on their upcoming, sixth album, Ghost Stories.

Last week when they released “Midnight,” some people thought it was just another random new track that the band was dropping. Fans of the band, on the other hand, were hoping that it was just a sign that a new album was on its way. Those wishing for a new record, got what they wanted because Ghost Stories will be released on May 19 through the band’s longtime record label, Parlophone/Atlantic Records.

For those wanting to pre-order the album, they could do so now and get an instant download of the new single while a deluxe version of the album will be sold through Target which will feature three bonus tracks. The audio video for “Magic” can be heard below as well as the full track list for the upcoming record.

Ghost Stories will be the band’s first new album since 2011’s hit, Mylo Xyloto. Last year, the band released a single song, “Atlas” which was featured on The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Soundtrack, earning them a few nominations for the track.

As for the band, Coldplay are set to headline the inaugural U.S. iTunes Festival on March 11 during South By Southwest in Austin. For those not able to make it to Austin, the show will be streamed live through the iTunes Store.
