Just when you thought summer 2017’s list of tours was already packed, it’s time to add one more to that lineup. On Tuesday (March 7), Rancid and the Dropkick Murphys announced plans to hit the road this summer for a joint, co-headlining excursion. The “From Boston to Berkley” tour will kick off on July 27 at Darling’s Waterfront Pavilion in Bangor, Maine and wrap up a month later on Aug. 26 in Los Angeles, though a venue or ticket sales date have yet to be confirmed.
In addition to full sets from both groups, the bands have also announced that every night, they will come together for a special joint encore. The Bouncing Souls and Jake Burns of Stiff Little Fingers will open the tour from July 27 to Aug. 9. From Aug. 11 to the end of the tour, The Selecter and Kevin Seconds from 7 Seconds will replace The Bouncing Souls and Burns.
“Rancid is looking forward to hitting the road with our brothers, the Dropkick Murphys,” writes Rancid vocalist/guitarist Tim Armstrong.
“It’s a long time coming with these two bands touring together,” adds Rancid guitarist Lars Frederiksen. “There is so much history between both of us that it should make for a great tour. We look forward to seeing all of our friends and family out there.”
“This is a dream come true for Dropkick Murphys. Hopefully all the people coming to the shows will feel the same way. Rancid gave us our break – Tim signing us to his label, Lars producing our early albums…so much history and great memories. Now, literally sharing the stage together every night. This tour is going to destroy all others this summer,” mirrors Dropkick Murphys vocalist/bassist Ken Casey.
The upcoming summer tour will be in support of Dropkick Murphys’ recently released record, 11 Short Stories of Pain and Glory. As for Rancid, the California-founded band’s released their last album, …Honor is All We Know in 2014, though, it appears they are currently working on new material.
Tickets for all shows, unless noted otherwise, are set to go on sale this Friday, March 10 at 10 a.m. local time. Tickets will be available on both Rancid and the Dropkick Murphys‘ websites. The complete list of tour dates can be seen below.
