It’s been a handful of years since Fitz & the Tantrums released their last album, but now it looks like they’re ready to change that. On Friday (March 25), the group confirmed plans to release a brand new album this summer. The new record, their third, will be titled Fitz & the Tantrums and is set to be released on June 10. In anticipation of the new album’s debut, the band has premiered its lead single, “HandClap.”

“Overall, this is an album about desire – the desire for intimacy, for sex, for acceptance on your own terms and the struggle not to compromise,” frontman Michael Fitzpatrick said in a release. “‘HandClap’ is a primal tale of love and lust, a call to arms in the late hours of the night. It’s the X-rated version of ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’ happening on a dance floor.”

Listen to lead single “HandClap” below.

In support of the upcoming release, the group will be hitting the road for a North American trek. The tour will kick-off on June 14 at The National in Richmond, VA and wrap up a month-and-a-half later on July 24 at Stubb’s in Austin, TX. For those of us here in South Florida, the group will be heading our way at the end of April/early May for West Palm Beach’s SunFest. The group will perform at the annual event on Saturday, April 30 with their set beginning at 9:45 pm. The complete list of their North American tour stops can be seen below.

Supergroup Unveil Christmas Single for Charity

christmas

Can you smell the aroma of pine needles, packing tape, cinnamon, and plastic in the air? All those smells must mean just one thing; Christmas is around the corner.

While we are still chocolate wasted from Halloween last week, many stores have already set up their Christmas displays while the Hallmark channel has already begun their two month-long tradition of playing Christmas movies non-stop. With all this Christmas around us, why wouldn’t a band release a Christmas single?

And that’s exactly what we go today with the premiere of a Christmas song titled “Must Be Christmas.” The track came courtesy of Better Than Ezra frontman Kevin Griffin and a slew of members from several bands such as Neon Trees, Fitz and the Tantrums, 311, Smallpools and more.

The supergroup of musicians are going by the Band of Merrymakers while all proceeds from the track, which is available for purchase on iTunes, will go to the MusiCares Foundation.

See, it’s all about the giving. Besides, how many times can you listen to Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas is You” before wanting to set fire to your radio?

Check out the song below and maybe start getting into the Christmas spirit and buy the track instead of becoming a super Grinch.
