Zac Efron to Reportedly Star in EDM-Centric Film

image

We can all agree that one of the most profitable music genres of right now is electronic dance music. With big names DJs earning somewhere in the millions for “spinning” records while festivals that are EDM-oriented have more attendees than some rock shows, it was only a matter of time before someone would think of a way of transferring this to the big screen.

Hollywood has finally decided to cash in on the music crazy by coming out with a move revolving around the world of EDM titled, We Are Your Friends.
The film, according to Deadline, will star Zac Efron and that main chick from the “Blurred Lines” video, Emily Ratajkowski (come on, you know which is the one we are talking about).

Efron will star as a young Los Angeles DJ named Cole who is working on a hit song that is guaranteed to be a hit while trying to get his big break in the competitive music world. Ratajkowski will play Sophie, the girlfriend of Cole’s mentor.

“With Cole’s forbidden relationship intensifying and his friendships unraveling, he must choose between, love, loyalty, and the future he knows he’s destined for,” Deadline reports.

The movie will reportedly begin filming on August 18 in the San Fernando Valley while a release date for it is still unknown.

One thing we can say for the film is maybe, just maybe Efron will play a better DJ than these people who think connecting and iPod to their computers and blasting pre-recorded things from a speaker qualifies them as one. We all know everyone has to start somewhere, but please certain celebutants, just stop.

Ultra Music Festival Reveals “Phase Two” and Set Times

ultra

Electronic Dance Music fans, it’s time to rejoice because the people behind the annual Ultra Music Festival have revealed the set times and artists for this year’s festivities.

Yesterday, festival organizers revealed their “Phase Two” for the event and today, they have added on the time slots for the jam-packed list. In a rare instance, this is the earliest that the list had made its way onto the internet, especially because there are two months left before the actual festival begins and a lot can happen during that time frame.

Aside from the Phase Two line-up and current set times, they have also unveiled a full breakdown of the stage setup, from the usual arenas like the main and live stages, Carl Cox & Friends, and State of Trance to some new additions like the Story Miami and Link & Miami Rebels stage.

For now, check out the long list of DJs and such below which is organized by date.

Ultra Music Festival Reveals Phase One

ultra

EDM-heads are well aware that Ultra is just a few months away, and now the yearly, electronic dance music festival has unveiled who will be taking the stage in Miami.

Last year, the festival decided to take a different turn and make the event two weekends long rather than the usual jam-packed one weekend. This year, it looks like the festivities will once again be returning to its usual one weekend full of partying after trying out the overambitious idea.

The weekend which will happen during March, 28th, 29th and 30th and will feature headliners ranging from Avicii, Armin van Buuren, Afrojack, Hardwell, Steve Angello, and Tiësto, you know just some of the biggest DJs in the world as well as live acts including Chase & Status and MGMT.

Now, the line-up that has been revealed has been coined as “Phase One,” and that a “Phase Two” will be coming soon, so who knows what that might entail.

Diplo Producing a Film for Fox

diplo

Deadline.com is reporting that electronic dance music superstar, Diplo has been contacted by 20th Century Fox about producing a film about the EDM craze. The feature film was acquired by the company and will be written by Adam Weinstock and Andy Jones, while Underground’s Trevor Engelson will be taking over the producing area.

Underground has joined forces with Diplo and his business partner, Kevin Kusatsu who will be labeled as executive producers alongside Noah Rothman. The picture is being pitched as “8 Mile meets Project X in tone, as three teens try to get into Diplo’s Electronic Music Festival,” described Deadline.

So far, that’s all the information that has been given about the film. No working title or when it might start filming let alone be released as been given.

Skrillex’s Full Flex Express, Derailed

Skrillex

Skrillex announced yesterday that he would be cancelling his second annual festival-by-train, Full Flex Express. The tour which was meant to ride the Canadian rails this July is inspired by the trail that was taken by Janis Joplin. The tour was the brainchild of the DJ and was supported by many artists including Diplo, Grimes, Pretty Lights, and Tokimonsta. The line up for this year’s tour had yet to be announced, but the tickets for it had already begun to be sold back in October.

It appears that some major derailing got in the way of this year’s festivities. First they found out that the train that they had reserved all of a sudden became unavailable but then the replacement they hoped to get was too expensive. Following that, the artist that they had hoped to get on board all of a sudden also became unavailable.

Skirllex says that he hopes to be able to bring the tour back in 2014, because it looks like 2013 is not going to happen, at all. The EDM megastar posted the following on the Full Flex Express Facebook:

“It is with huge disappointment that we have to announce the Full Flex Express will not be happening in 2013. During the past 4 months we lost the train we had booked, found a new one, and then realized the cost associated with using it would put us at a huge, huge loss.

We explored every option to make the Full Flex Express happen but ultimately we could not get around these setbacks. Also, some of the acts we had in mind were unavailable and we only wanted to deliver the best of the best, which is what we think this festival should deliver.

The train is near and dear to my heart, and we have every intention of bringing it back in a massive way in 2014 (and for many years after), so please understand that we do this for you and this is just an unfortunate convergence of circumstances. Refunds will be issued at point of purchase and also to everyone who bought a ticket online.”
