Listen to Silverstein’s new song, ‘Whiplash’

After teasing fans with the prospect of a new song a few days ago, Silverstein has come through once again. On Thursday (July 6), the Canadian band premiered “Whiplash”; the fourth song released from the group’s upcoming new album, Dead Reflection. Listen to the new tune, which sounds very much like a Silverstein song with its weaving of screaming and clean vocals, above.

“Whiplash” will join previously released tunes “Lost Positives,” “Ghost,” and “Retrograde” on Dead Reflection. Dead Reflection is set to be released on July 14 through Rise Records. Pre-orders for the new album are currently available here.

In support of Dead Reflection‘s release, the rest of Silverstein’s 2017 will be filled with non-stop touring. Currently, the group is in the middle of their seventh outing on the Vans Warped Tour. After the 2017 Vans Warped Tour concludes in early August, the group will take some time off before heading across the pond for a European excursion in late September. Silverstein’s complete tour itinerary for the rest of 2017 can be found here.

Dead Reflection is the follow-up to the group’s 2015 release, I Am Alive in Everything I Touch.

Listen to Silverstein’s new single ‘Lost Positives’

With a month left until the release of their ninth studio album and a couple of days before the 2017 Vans Warped tour will begin, Silverstein has unleashed a brand new song. On Thursday (June 15), the Canadian band headed over to Alternative Press to debut their second single off Dead Reflection, “Lost Positive.” During the song’s premiere, frontman Shane Told and guitarist Paul Marc Rousseau talked to the publication about the new song which Told admitted was one of his favorites of all time and while Rousseau said was the first song he wrote for the album.

“It’s also my favorite song on the record for a number of reasons. I like that it’s a bit different from what we’ve done in the past; it’s not something we’ve done much of before, and melodically it’s different,” Told begins. “Rhythmically, the beat in the chorus is one we’ve not used so much, but it still has a hard-hitting riff, and some interesting verses.”

“It was the first song I wrote for the album, and I wrote it with Steve Brodsky of Cave In and Mutoid Man,” reveals Rousseau. “In its original form, it was wild and very different — it was startling to everybody. If you write a really different song late in the process, it’s less jarring, but for it to be the first one, it was like, ‘Oh my God — what record are we about to make?'”

But if you’re expecting the Dead Reflection to be a straight up hardcore record, then this might not be for you. According to Told, this album is all about diverse sounds with some tunes leaning on the pop-punk side of the spectrum while others may be on the heavy side of things.

“So with this record, yes, there’s a lot of diversity, but all our records have that, just maybe this one has it even more so. [You mention] ‘The Afterglow’ being super-poppy, and it’s basically a pop-punk song! And there are songs like ‘Last Looks’ which are very heavy; so there’s a lot of diversity.” To read the full interview with Told and Rousseau, head on over to Alternative Presshere while “Lost Positive” can be streamed above.

In support of Dead Reflection, Silverstein will be heading out on Warped Tour for the complete trek. After a month or so off, they will once again hit the road, but this time in Europe. Silverstein’s complete itinerary for the summer and fall can be seen below.

Silverstein announces ‘Dead Reflection,’ drops new music video

Just in time for their seventh time on the Vans Warped Tour, Silverstein has announced a brand new album. On Thursday (May 18), the Canadian band announced that their upcoming ninth studio album will be titled Dead Reflection and will see a mid-July release. The new album, their first since 2015’s I Am Alive in Everything I Touch, will be released on July 14 through Rise Records. Pre-orders for the new album are currently available here.

In addition to the new record confirmation, the band has also released the music video for the album’s lead single, “Retrograde.” The over-three-minute clip is simple; the group is performing in what can be assumed to be either a studio or warehouse. As frontman Shane Told shifts between screaming the lyrics and the clean vocals, the lights change color (a yellowish-brown for the screams and blue with hints of white for the clean vocals). Watch the complete music video for “Retrograde” above.

Dead Reflection‘s announcement comes a couple of days after the band posted a cryptic, 16-second clip online. The footage, at first, features a black background with a pink knot at the center of the screen and the sound of a body of water playing in the back. Midway through the 16 seconds, the image changes and is replaced by a date and time (May 18 at 2 p.m. EST).

Dead Reflection will mark the group’s new set of tunes since I Am Alive in Everything I Touch. Last October, they released a stand-alone single titled “Ghost.” The purpose of the song was to give fans something to hold them over until they were finished with the new album. As seen in the album track list below, the new album will in fact include “Ghost.”

According to a press release from Told, the new album has “the massive sound that fans have come to expect from the band, but being written during a time of pain and frustration has added a new element to the record that hasn’t been present on past releases.”

He added: “This record tells the story of how broken I was, how I found myself on a path of self-destruction, and how I had to fight to get my sanity and happiness back. The year-long journey was not an easy one. I fell down into many dark places, and ultimately I had to fight to resist against so many vices to get back into a positive light.”

The complete 11-track list for Dead Reflection can be seen below while the group’s full summer tour schedule can be found here.
