Grammy Performers List Released

grammy

The Grammys have finally given viewers what they have been waiting for; a list of performers for the award show.

Last month, it was announced that Daft Punk would be taking the stage at the Grammys to perform and today, it was officially confirmed that they would be taking the stage with a number of guests including Pharrell, Nile Rodgers, Chris Caswell, Nathan East, Omar Hakim, Paul Jackson Jr.,and the Random Access Memories session players.

Lorde, one of 2013’s biggest breakouts will also be taking the stage to perform. The New Zealand singer was nominated for a total of four award including both Song of the Year and Record of the Year for her hit song, “Royals” as well as Best Pop Vocal Album for her album, Pure Heroine.

Katy Perry is another radio mainstay with the power to garner two nominations at this year’s event and sing (hopefully) during the live show. Her empowering anthem, “Roar” was nominated for both Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance.

And while his song might be one of the most controversial song of 2013, it didn’t stop if from being the biggest song of the year. Robin Thicke and his “Blurred Lines” will also be taking the stage at the show. The song may have earned him “Sexist of the Year” by a British organization, but it didn’t stop him from earning three Grammy nominations for it.

But while the list includes some of the biggest names in pop music at this moment, one of the biggest shocks was the addition of metal gods, Metallica. Metallica will be taking the stage for the first time in 23 years. Their Metallica Through the Never (Music From the Motion Picture) soundtrack has been nominated for Best Recording Package. That means if they win, the actual band wouldn’t win; the award would go to the art directors.

Impressive, a little bit of everything for those with different tastes. The Grammys air live on Sunday, January 26 from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on CBS.

Surprise Performers Confirmed for the Grammys

grammy
The Grammys have revealed some of the performers that will be taking the stage at the annual music award show, but the biggest surprise on the list comes courtesy of some French DJs who like to wear helmets.

Can you guess who it is?

Well, we aren’t going to give you enough time to guess because the biggest shock on the list is that Daft Punk will be taking the stage to perform. This will be the first time in six years that the electronic duo will be performing on live television; the last time they performed on the show was in 2008 with Kanye West.

Since the release of Random Access Memories, the duo really haven’t done any public performance even though they did appear briefly on stage during the MTV Video Music Awards, but it was just to promote their newest single “Lose Yourself to Dance.” The Recording Academy is billing Daft Punk’s appearance as an “exclusive” one, so who knows, maybe it is.

Also confirmed to take the stage is Kendrick Lamar who is nominated for seven awards including “Album of the Year” for Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, “New Artist” as well as “Best Rap Performance” for “Swimming Pools (Drank).” Imagine Dragons who are fresh from performing a killer mash-up of their songs on the American Music Awards will once again be hitting the stage for the Grammys where they are nominated for two awards one of which is “Record of the Year.”

Grammy veteran P!nk will also appear on the award show to perform what we assume is her Grammy-nominated song, “Just Give Me a Reason” with fun. frontman, Nate Ruess.

There will also be a special Grammy Moment performance by country artists Merle Haggard, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson and Blake Shelton. The performance has been described as a tribute to the Texas and Oklahoma roots of the artists.

LL Cool J will once again be returning for hosting duties during the live broadcast of the show which will take place on January 26, from the Staples Center in Los Angeles. CBS will be airing the event live starting at 8 p.m. EST.

Watch the Statue Love Story Unfold in “Instant Crush”

daft punk

Yesterday, a clip from Daft Punk’s music video for “Instant Crush” made its way onto the internet after premiering on some show in France.  The clip featured a statue version of The Strokes’ frontman, Julian Casablancas, who happens to also lend his vocal as well as a guitar solo to the track.

The video tells the story of a love affair, from a far, between two statues in a history museum one which is, of course Casablancas. If you pay close attention to when the Casablancas statue gets moved to the basement, you can make out the Daft Punk helmets in the storage area.

The song comes off Daft Punk’s critically acclaimed and probably one of your favorite albums of 2013, Random Access Memories. “Instant Crush” is the third music video to come off the hit album right behind “Get Lucky” and “Lose Yourself to Dance.”

Check out the video below.

Store in the UK Makes Applicants Dance During Interview

2013CurrysPA-6475817060913

Did you ever think you’d see the day when a grown man is asked to dance around to an electronic song during a job interview?

Well, that’s exactly what happened to a University of South Wales graduate who was applying for a job at Currys, a U.K. retailer. Alan Bacon, the 21-year-old interviewee was ready for an interview at the Cardiff branch of the retailer when he was asked to dance to Daft Punk’s 1997 hit song, “Around the World.” Bacon said that it was a dance-off the interviewers had set up against the eight applicants to see who would come out on top with the position at the store.

“I think everyone initially thought it was a joke,” Bacon told British paper, The Mirror. “But they were serious. All professionalism went out of the window. I’d spent the past week researching the company and looking forward to being able to express myself and talk about what I love doing. But I just felt so embarrassed and uncomfortable. I ended up dancing to ‘Around the World’ by Daft Punk, doing rubbish robotics in my suit in front of a group of strangers.”

The potential employee continued b saying, “”It was so degrading, but I am desperate for work, so I just smiled and got on with it. I told my dad it was like a scene out of The Office. I’ve been to quite a few job interviews and have never had to do anything like it before. Another middle-aged guy looked really upset as he danced to a rap song.”

No matter how hard he tried to impress those that we’re interviewing him, Bacon received a phone call revealing that he in fact did not get the position he “danced” for. A spokesperson for the retailer did come out and confirm that the store had in fact made the applicants dance as part of their interview and that “the store in question did not follow our official recruitment processes on this specific occasion.”

They continued the statement with, “We are very sorry to those interviewees impacted on this occasion and would like to invite them back to attend an official interview where they will be given a proper opportunity to demonstrate how they can contribute to our business.”

Sesame Street Do Daft Punk

daft-punk-get-lucky-sesame-street-mashup

We all pretty much expected and were right that Daft Punk’s newest release, Random Access Memories was going to be a full-blown hit and to no shock, we were.

Get Lucky has been a massive hit invading both the radio waves, televisions even condoms now. The song has been such a hit that even Sesame Street has gotten in on the action. That’s right, you read that correctly, there’s video of Grover and his many friends dancing along to the top 100 song. And yes, we have to keep in mind that there are some lyrics of the song that are very “dirty.” Oh, Grover.

Anyways, if your curiosity has gotten the better of you then you can check out the video below.

‘Get Lucky’ Remixed

daft punk

We know that you’ll probably never get tired of hearing Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories, especially with all the remixes that are making their way online (remember Darkside’s remixes we posted last week?), but now you can hear one of the remixes done exclusively by the duo themselves.

Before the album made its way onto people’s iPods (do we still use those) and other modes of listening to music, the French-duo revealed that they would be making their own remixes of each of the songs on the album. Today, we have received their remixed version of first single, “Get Lucky.”

The ten-minute long song can be heard below courtesy of Spotify.

So tell us, is the remixed version better or just decent compared to the original?

Darkside Take on Daft Punk

130621-daft-punk-nicolas-jaar-darkside

Remember when we told you that Daft Punk would be taking it upon themselves to remix their own songs from their new hit album, Random Access Memories? Well, it looks as if that time has come, but they have asked fans that if they wanted to contribute, that they would be more than welcomed.

Nicolas Jaar and Dave Harrington also known as Darkside, have taken on the task of remixing every single track on the album (14 if any of you were wondering). But before you think this would be a catastrophe like some random mixing done by your sweet sixteen’s DJ, Jaar most recently, remixed Brian Eno and Grizzly Bear and his remix of Cat Power was voted one of Spin Magazine’s 40 Best Songs of 2012, so we know they mean business.

If you still feel a little unsure, that’s fine, you can check out all the remade album titled, Random Access Memories Memories, below.
