Watch Dashboard Confessional and Cash Cash get hounded by a fan in ‘Belong’

With a few months left until the release of their much-anticipated new album, Dashboard Confessional has returned with another new track. On Monday (Dec. 18), the Florida-founded band unleashed the music video for the second single off Crooked Shadows; a song titled “Belong.” The song not only features frontman Chris Carrabba’s distinct vocals, but also electronic music group Cash Cash’s dancefloor-friendly drops.

The over-three-minute clip starts off innocently enough with a girl sitting in her bedroom as a movie featuring her and three guys in the car is projected against the wall behind her. Things start to take a turn for the weird when the camera pans to another bedroom wall which is covered in photographs of the Cash Cash guys (Jean Paul Makhlouf, Alex Makhlouf, and Samuel Frisch) as well as a slew of merchandise from the group. While having merchandise and photographs of your favorite band is not exactly eyebrow-raising, having mannequins dressed up as each member is. As the video progresses, the viewer watches as the girl interacts with Cash Cash mannequins and how every action she does becomes part of her delusional reality aka the movie being projected on the wall.

Just when you thought Carrabba was safe from the fangirl, you would be wrong. Soon, the protagonist adds Carrabba to her list, even giving him his own mannequin in her room.

“Making ‘Belong’ with Chris Carrabba was an incredible experience. Chris is a legendary songwriter whose powerful musical movement has undeniably herded the masses,” begins a press statement from Cash Cash.

“Combining our different styles on ‘Belong’ was extremely fun. Being influenced by Dashboard ourselves made it very easy for us to dive into the idea, merge our genres together, and make a special unique song. It hands down (pun intended) turned out to be one of our favorite songs we’ve ever made.”

Dashboard Confessional announces new album, sign with Fueled By Ramen

For Dashboard Confessional fans, it probably feels like they have been waiting for a new album for centuries. For over two years, frontman Chris Carrabba has repeatedly reassured fans that the group would be releasing new music soon. On Wednesday (Nov. 15), fans finally got what they have been waiting for when the band officially announced their seventh studio album. Taking to social media, the Carrabba-led act confirmed that their new album will be titled Crooked Shadows and that it will see a release date of Feb. 9, 2018 through their new home of Fueled By Ramen.

In addition to announcing the title of the new album, its release date, and the group’s new record label, Dashboard Confessional has also unleashed the record’s powerful lead single, “We Fight.” Listen to the new song above.

Pre-orders for Crooked Shadows can be found on Dashboard Confessional’s website here. Crooked Shadows will be the follow-up to 2009’s Alter the Ending even though the band released a standalone single titled “May” in the spring of 2016.

Earlier this week, the group tipped fans off that something big was coming when they cleared everything from their Instagram profile. All the images they previously had were replaced with an image that had the date “11.15.17” printed against a gray background. The group’s new music confirmation comes almost three years after Carrabba hinted that the band was in the process of creating a new record.

“It really feels like we’re eager to write, which means there’s probably a new record coming out,” Carrabba told Entertainment Weekly back in the summer of 2015. “Who am I kidding? There’s a new record coming.”

Well, after almost three years, fans finally got that record Carrabba had hinted at. Not only that, but according to Carrabba the new music, especially “We Fight” started out one way and evolved as time passed.

“It’s a weird thing when you write a song; you think you know what it’s about, but you don’t until some months later sometimes. So, I thought for sure it was just about how I found a place in the world, which was worth fighting for, which was the music scene that I come from,” Carrabba explained to Beat’s 1 DJ, Zane Lowe.

“I wasn’t cool in school. I didn’t fit in. I found this music scene and it fostered this community and it fostered the people in it. You could be black or white, you could be straight or gay, you could be a man or a woman. Everybody was equal and we were equally protected but we were equally encouraged to do something that challenged the status quo.”
