For fans of country music, tonight will be another night full of rocking country songs and awards for the best of the best in that genre of music.

The Voice judge (and sometimes country singer, I kid) Blake Shelton and first time co-host, Luke Bryan will be taking the reigns as hosts of the evening. Performers will include, Hunter Hayes with Stevie Wonder, Tim McGraw, Taylor Swift with Keith Urban, George Strait, Garth Brooks and even a collaboration between John Mayer and Brad Paisley.

While the laundry list of performers is enough for a country fan to tune in, the list of presenters aren’t that far off either. Presenters include, Gary Allan, Faith Hill, Shania Twain, Trisha Yearwood, Chris Young, Eli Young Band and many more.

For the full list of performers and presenters, tune in tonight at 8 p.m. on CBS for the live airing of the show on the east coast and a tape delay for those on the west coast.

Toby Keith’s Bassist Killed in Oklahoma

Chuck Goff

Sad news of the day for country music lovers out there. It was reported this morning that Toby Keith’s long time bassist, Carl “Chuck” Goff Jr, was killed in a two car crash in Cleveland County which is about 35 miles south of Oklahoma City.

In a statement released by the country singer, he said:

“We are deeply saddened by the sudden death of our band member, Chuck Goff. He was a close friend for over 25 years, the band leader and bass player. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family.”

Goff also had some writing credits within Keith’s 1994 album, Boomtown, including the songs “Upstairs Downtown” that landed at No. 2 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart and top 10 hit, “You Ain’t Much Fun.”

While the investigation is still ongoing, authorities are saying that the driver from the other vehicle was not injured.

Taylor Swift Being Sued

Taylor Swift

“America’s Sweetheart” is in a little bit of legal trouble. Taylor Swift is being sued for a concert that never happened, but still managed to get paid for. Last August, Swift was paid $2.5 million dollars to headline a huge country music concert called “Capital Hoedown” in Ottawa, but due to some problems within the camp of the promoters, they decided to just forgo the complete concert and cancel it.

A lawsuit was filed in New York federal court on behalf of the ticket company that had to refund around $1.8 million dollars to paying fans. They believe that Swift should have to pay back all the money since she received her payment in full, up front and did not do anything.

Swift’s rep says that there was never a binding contract with the ticket company, so there really isn’t a reason why she should fork over the money to pay for the mishap that transpired.

Mindy McCready Passes Away at 37

Mindy McCready

Mindy McCready wasn’t having a particularly great month; first her boyfriend passes away then her children are taken away followed by a judge forcing her into rehab. The Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office have reported that the country singer committed suicide and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Family members recently reported that ever since the death of David Wilson, the father of her youngest child, she had been on a downward spiral. Wilson, also appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in early January.

McCready had been making headlines since Wilson’s death; she had been accused of somehow playing a part in the record producer’s death. After pleaded that she had no connection to his suicide, her two children were taken away from her by authorities. She was then ordered by a judge to enter a treatment facility for mental-health and alcohol-abuse evaluation, but a day later was let out and allowed to undergo outpatient treatments instead. Now a little over two weeks later, this tragedy has unfolded.

In an interview in late January, she was quoted as saying that she had never been through what she had during Wilson’s death and that he was her “soul mate.”
