It’s been over a year since Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley was admitted to the hospital for kidney and liver failure due to all the years of alcohol abuse and it looks like the time as well as the assistance from some unlikely friends, has helped the singer recover.
During the weekend, Whibley and his side band, Deryck Whibley and the Happiness Machines, played two shows in California; a kind of welcome back. Thanks to several audience members, footage from the Santa Ana show have already been posted online showing a less frail Whibley on the stage, singing some of Sum 41’s biggest songs.

Late last week, former My Chemical Romance bassist Mikey Way revealed on Instagram that he had been asked to join Whibley and the rest of the group, during the three shows in California.
As for the Sum 41 camp, the Canadian band will reportedly make their “comeback” later this month when they take the stage at the second annual Alternative Press Music Awards in Cleveland.
