Listen: Pale Waves get into the holiday spirit with Wham! cover

The holiday season is quickly upon us which means every single radio station is about to play the same obnoxious, holiday-themed tune for the next month and a half. If you feel like you need a different take on one of those overly played tracks, you don’t need to look any further than Pale Waves’ latest release. On Monday (Nov. 19), the Manchester-founded group unleashed their version of Wham!’s “Last Christmas.”

Instead of the late George Michaels’ solemn voice blasting through the speakers, the four-piece combine the sadness of the lyrics with their signature gothic, synth-pop sound. The holiday cover is part of Spotify’s Singles series and was recorded at Metropolis Studios in London.

Listen to Pales Waves’ take on “Last Christmas” above.

The “Last Christmas” cover is the band’s first new material since the release of their debut album earlier this fall. My Mind Makes Noises was released in September and features hit singles “Eighteen,” “There’s a Honey,” “Television Romance,” “Kiss,” and “Noises.”

In support of their debut album’s release, the group is currently in the middle of their headlining North American tour. The fall time jaunt will conclude on Dec. 6 at the Fonda in Los Angeles.

After a short time off, the quartet will hit the touring circuit once again, this time opening for fellow Dirty Hits label mates, the 1975. Joining Pale Waves and the 1975 on the forthcoming tour will be No Rome who happens to also be part of the Dirty Hits family. The complete list of tour dates can be found here.

The holiday season is clearly upon us which means a batch of new holidays songs are about to flood our favorite music streaming services. On Thursday (Nov. 15), Katy Perry released her new Christmas song just in time for the “kick-off to Christmas” time of the year.

Titled “Cozy Little Christmas,” the three-minute song finds the American Idol judge sticking to what she does best; giving fans super-catchy, ultra-bubbly tunes.

Taking to social media, the “Teenage Dream” singer expressed her excitement for her first new original song since the release of her 2017 studio album, Witness.

“For all my friends secretly buying their tree already… SURPRISE! Christmas comes early!” Perry tweeted.

“Cozy Little Christmas” is an Amazon exclusive, so make sure you log in to give it a listen here. If not, you can get a little taste here.

“Cozy Little Christmas” is Perry’s first new song since the release of her fifth studio album, Witness. The album was released in June of 2017 and though it did peak at the number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart, it was met with mixed reactions by critics and fans alike.

Earlier this month, Perry announced she had contributed to the deluxe re-issue of the Dear Evan Hansen (Original Broadway Cast Recording). The pop star was given the opportunity to take on the Broadway musical’s signature song, “Waving Through a Window.”

The Killers release their annual Christmas song, announce holiday album

Once Halloween passes, it almost feel like the holidays are out to get you. If the turkey dinners and holiday decorations at every store aren’t enough to let you know that “the most wonderful time of the year” is right around the corner, then the news that The Killers’ new holiday song being released might. On Friday (Nov. 18), the Las Vegas-founded band unleashed their latest holiday song, “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.” For the past decade, the band has released holiday songs to get fans, and casual listeners, excited for the holidays with his year being no different.

While the fans got to enjoy the new-ish music from the band, proceeds from all the tracks were donated to (RED) to help them and their mission to combat AIDs. One thing that is a little different from every other year is the band’s decision to gather all of the holiday singles and release a Christmas compilation. The album, which is titled Don’t Waste Your Wishes, will included previously released holiday singles, “Don’t Shoot Me Santa,” “Boots,” “Joel the Lump of Coal,” and others. All proceeds from the sale of the Christmas compilation will also be donated to (RED).

As if giving back to charity wasn’t enough, frontman Brandon Flowers revealed that he learned the true meaning of the holidays from his fourth grade teach, Mr. Hansen, who is featured on the 2016 holiday single. Pre-orders for Don’t Waste Your Wishes are currently available on the band’s website and on iTunes. At the moment, only the digital version is available, but come Dec. 9, physical copies of the album will be available.

Cartel Announce Hometown Christmas Show

Cartel may have wrapped up the tenth anniversary celebration for their breakout record, Chroma earlier this year, but now the band are giving a little something back to their hometown. On Monday (Oct. 19), it was announced that the Atlanta-based band will be finishing off the year with one final show for Christmas.

The Christmas show will be acoustic set and take place on Dec. 23 at Eddie’s Attic in Atlanta. The show will reportedly feature the band playing songs spanning their entire career, so we do anticipate that some tracks from Chroma will make the setlist.

For those living in Atlanta (or pretty much anywhere if you have a way to get to the show), tickets for the show will go on sale beginning this Thursday, Oct. 22 at 11 a.m. local time. Since the venue is a smaller, more intimate location, it might be a good idea to get those tickets as soon as they become available.

Brendon Urie Drunkenly Retells Fall Out Boy Story

What happens when you give someone a boatload of alcohol and then have them tell a story?

Pure hilarity and that’s exactly what Fall Out Boy did to an unsuspecting victim.

During their Save Rock and Roll tour, the boys of Fall Out Boy gave Panic! at the Disco frontman, Brendon Urie and had the singer tell the story of Fall Out Boy from their inception, to how the band members became members to present day, or at least until said tour was going on.

As Urie tells the story, the way that his drunken mind remembers it, the guys recreate the scenes which features bassist Pete Wentz’s old “emo” hair and eyeliner and frontman Patrick Stump’s old side burns.

Check out the video below which was the last incarnation of Fall Out Boy’s “12 Days of Christmas” special/ publicity for their upcoming new album, American Beauty/American Psycho.

The Killers Introduce Us To Poor “Joel, the Lump of Coal”

Christmas is right around the corner, if you couldn’t already tell. We like to blame all the radio stations that began playing Christmas music Thanksgiving afternoon and the wonderful smell of sweat as people fight their way through Black Friday shopping.

But, the Christmas holiday would not be the same if The Killers had not released their annual Christmas song, something the four-piece have been doing for the past decade.

This year, the band have made a song in honor of a sad piece of coal named Joel.

The music video for the new song from the Las Vegas band premiered last night during Jimmy Kimmel’s late night show. Check out the story of poor “Joel, the Lump of Coal.”

Several times, the band have collaborate with other musicians on the holiday-centric songs and this year it was Kimmel’s turn.

Previously, The Killers have worked with Elton John, Pet Shop Boy’s Neil Tennant and more on their special holiday inspired songs.

As always all proceeds from the song will go to the AIDS charity (RED) which held their national (RED) day yesterday. The song is currently available for purchase over on iTunes.

Beyoncé Helps Make Terminally Ill Girl’s Dream Come True

You don’t need to be a fan of Beyoncé and her music to admit that she has a big heart in her when it comes to her fans.

Earlier this month, while on her Mrs. Carter World Tour, the singer helped make a terminally ill girl’s dream come true. Her dream was to perform with Beyoncé and thanks to the Make-a-Wish Foundation, that just happened.

Taylon has a tumor in her brain which cannot be operated on and wanted to get the chance to perform with Queen Bee.”They found an inoperable tumor on her brain, and her dying wish was to dance with Beyoncé,” Ivy McGregor of Philanthropy Program Partnerships says in the video.

Her dream came true during Beyoncé’s stop in Las Vegas where Taylon was brought on stage to sing and dance alongside her idol for “Love on Top” as well as Destiny’s Child’s hit song “Survivor.” Video from the performance can be seen below which was uploaded to the singer’s YouTube page on Christmas Eve.

This isn’t the first time Beyoncé has done such a thing for a fan. A few weeks before the Las Vegas tour stop, she sang a heartwarming duet with a 13-year-old blind fan during a concert in Perth, Australia.

But that’s not where her charitable heart ended for the holidays. A few days ago, she showed up at a Walmart in Tweksbury, MA and gave out $50 gift card to shoppers at the store.

Now that’s definitely one way to show the holiday spirit and appreciation for the fans who helped put her at the top of the charts.
