Channing Tatum to Play Gambit?

Rumors had it for a while now that Magic Mike and 22 Jump Street star Channing Tatum was in the running to play one of Marvel’s beloved mutants, Gambit, in a future X-Men. At the moment, the speculation is that he will appear in X-Men: Apocalypse.

After months of playing the maybe card whenever they were asked, X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner kind of confirmed the rumors that has long been brewing to Total Film.

“He’s a rogue. Channing, he’s a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau,” Donner said. “And he can handle the action. We all know that. And he’s got a really good heart.”

While appearing at 2014 MTV Movie Awards, where he earned the Trailblazer Award, Tatum revealed that he “would die” if he were given the chance to play Gambit and his wish may have just come true.

“I met with Lauren Shuler Donner. I would love [to]. Gambit’s really the only X-Men that I’ve ever loved. I love them all. They’re all great. I don’t know,” he said in an interview. “I guess being from down south… I just related to him. He’s the most un-X-Men X-Men that’s ever been in X-Men, other than maybe Wolverine.”

If you don’t remember (or choose not remember) Friday Night Lights star Taylor Kitsch took on the role of the mutant in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
