The Dillinger Escape Plan cancel European tour following bus accident

Over the weekend, news broke that the Dillinger Escape Plan had been involved in a serious bus accident while on tour in Europe. Following a couple of days of uncertainty, the band has confirmed that they will be cancelling the remainder of their European tour. On Monday (Feb. 13), the New Jersey-based band released a statement to Metal Injection about their decision to cancel the rest of the dates. As it turns out, the crash was a lot more serious. Not only were there several people injured in the crash, the band also lost all their equipment when the truck collided with the band’s trailer.

While the loss of their equipment and cancelled tour dates may seem like a major bummer, the silver-lining of the crash is that no one was fatally injured. A total of 13 people who were on the bus were rushed to the hospital and extensively checked out.

“Saturday, February 11th 2017, The Dillinger Escape Plan and crew were driving to their show in Krakow, Poland when their bus broke down and the driver had to pull over on the side of the road,” begins that statement from the band. “A truck smashed into the trailer, which held all the band’s gear, before hitting the bus. No one is in critical condition but the band and crew are still being assessed for the extent of their injuries at Szpital Wojewodzki im. Jana Pawla II (John Paul Regional Hospital) in Zamosc. The remaining dates in Croatia, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France, Spain and Belgium (running through March 5th) have been cancelled.”

Guitarist Benjamin Weinman chimed in revealing that all the band’s gear had been destroyed in the accident. “All the gear is destroyed and there are injuries – we are unable to continue this tour right now. The band and crew would like to thank the fans and press around the world for their concern and the Polish police and medical staff for their handling of the situation. We hope to get back to Europe soon.”

The cancelled tour dates were part of The Dillinger Escape Plan’s final tour. Once their previously announced tour schedule came to an end, the band would as well. The group released their final album, Dissociation, back in October of 2016.
