Incubus Debut “Absolution Calling”

Incubus promised us a new song last week, and now we have received it.

Th new track, the band’s first new official song since 2011’s If Not Now, When?, is titled “Absolution Calling” and can be heard below.

As if the new song wasn’t enough, the band also revealed that they will be releasing two new EPs this year.

According to some sources the first of the two album could be released as soon as the end of this month while the second album has a projected release time frame of this Summer.

“Absolution Calling” will join “Make Out Party,” “Dance Like You’re Dumb,” and previously performed song, “Trust” Fall,” which made its performance debut back in December at KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas.

Incubus to Debut New Song Next Week

Incubus fans, get pumped because new music is officially on the horizon.

After posting pictures from the studio, alluding to a new recording being produced, and dropping hints in interviews, Incubus have now confirmed that new music will be coming our way soon.

Taking to Twitter, and Instagram, frontman Brandon Boyd posted a picture of himself smiling with a caption on the bottom revealing that their first new song since 2011’s If Not Now, When? is set to debut next Thursday, Feb. 5. The song will be titled, “Absolution Calling.”

Boyd had been hinting at new music for a while now, even confirming during a radio interview that 2015 would bring a brand new record to the hands of excited fans. Guitarist Mike Einziger would later reinforce the statement when asked about the topic on Twitter.

Shortly after that, Einziger began to post pictures of the band in the studio recording new music, cementing the talk about an eighth studio album being made. (Maybe fans should be grateful that the Jesus Christ Superstar tour Boyd was supposed to a part of got cancelled last year.)

As of now, there has been no mention of an album title or a release date, but we should feel lucky, at least we got a song title.

Watch Rivers Cuomo Talk About Receiving Fan Mail Intended for Brandon Boyd

We all know that musicians get a lot of things from fans showing their appreciation for the musician and the world they create with words, but sometimes those gifts get really creepy and weird. And sometimes, the things that you get in the mail from fans isn’t even for you.

For Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo, that’s exactly what’s happened, several times.

In a recent interview with Larry King on his web-series, Larry King Now, Cuomo admits he has received some fan mail, just not addressed to him, but for Incubus frontman, Brandon Boyd.

“I get these elongated fan packages, only they’re not for me, they’re for the singer of Incubus, Brandon Boyd,” he explained to the host.

The funniest part of this whole story, is when Cuomo reveals that he’s received Boyd’s fan mail at not one, but at two different home addresses.

“I didn’t even froward it to Brandon, I should though,” Cuomo jokingly told King at the end.

For those thinking that it’s the most random question to be asked, it turns out that Cuomo revealed this weird tid-bit during a Reddit AMA session last month.

Check out the video here, and if you’re that creepy fan, I think if you added a not for Rivers to send it to Brandon, he might, unless that was your plan all along.

‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ Musical to Head Out on Arena Tour

jesuschristsuperstartour

Jesus Christ Superstar is about to return and follow in the footsteps of many other musicals by hitting the road this Summer.

The new production of the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice musical is slated to kick off its 51-city North American arena tour on June 9 in New Orleans. The biggest surprise of the announcement, is the fact that many musicians will be filling the cast including Incubus frontman Brandon Boyd, former Destiny’s Child Michelle Williams, *NSYNC alum J.C. Chasez and The Sex Pistols’ John Lyndon or Johnny Rotten, as he’s better known as.

The announcement of the show was made this morning during Good Morning America where Boyd and Williams not only revealed the news but also performed one of the songs from the show. Boyd will play Judas Iscariot while Williams will take on the role of Mary Magdalene. Chasez will play Pontius Pilate, Lyndon will take on the role of King Herod and Ben Forster will once again reprise the role of Jesus after playing the character in the U.K. leg of the tour.

“I’m looking forward to the experience,” said Chasez. “This is honestly my first theater experience so I’m being thrown into the fire a bit. But I’m excited because the fact that we’re doing something that feels pretty unique.”

“It’s completely new, and it’s incredible,” said Boyd during the sit down portion of the interview. “It’s an arena rock show.”

Boyd would be familiar with arena rock tours since his band, Incubus, have managed to perform at some of them in the past.

Since its premiere back in 1971, the retelling of the last week of Jesus of Nazareth had been revived several time, most recently in 2012, but never has it hit the road for a full tour. Considering that the newest trend is to take big Broadway musicals such as Mary Poppins, Wicked, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Jersey Boys on the road, this might be just the thing for the musical.

Tickets are set to go on sale next week but can range from $29 and $125. while tour dates can be seen here.

Stream Brandon Boyd’s Solo Song

Incubus frontman, Brandon Boyd will be releasing a new album with the help of producer Brendan O’Brien.

While this might seem to be coming from left field, this  isn’t the first time that Boyd has done something musical without the involvement of his band. In 2010, he released a solo album called, The Wild Trapeze and now Rolling Stone is reporting that his new project is named, Sons of the Sea. In his interview with the music magazine, Boyd has described his new project as “oddball pop” which should be interesting coming from him.

During the interview, Boyd also said the following about the new music:

This is a piece about the moment when you understand that as good or as bad as something seems, it’s exactly where you are supposed to be,” says Boyd. “If perceived as such, one can have access to a limitless inspiration, a ‘place’ of sorts that is the wellspring of creativity! Cheesy? Maybe. But fun? Hell yes.

As if his new music wasn’t enough, the singer will be doing a live performance that will stream on Incubus manager, Steve Rennie’s website on June 28th; the link can be found here.
