Listen: Boston Manor stream ‘England’s Dreaming’

Boston Manor’s new album is just a couple of days away from being in the palms (and ears) of fans, so what is a band to do? Release another new song from it, of course. On Tuesday (Sept. 4), the English band dropped another new song from Welcome to the Neighbourhood. Titled “England’s Dreaming,” the new song follows the band’s theme with the new record; bleakness.

“[“England’s Dreaming” is] probably my favorite track on the record,” admits vocalist Henry Cox. “The song’s about waking up one day and realizing you have nothing in common with your fellow man.” listen to “England’s Dreaming” above.

“England’s Dreaming” will join previously released tracks “Bad Machine” and “Halo” on Boston Manor’s sophomore effort. Welcome to the Neighbourhood is due out this Friday, Sept. 7, through Pure Noise Records. The upcoming album was produced by Mike Sapone whose resume includes Taking Back Sunday, Mayday Parade, and Public Enemy. Pre-orders for the record can be found here

Welcome to the Neighbourhood is the follow-up to the group’s debut record, 2016’s Be Nothing.

In support of the new album’s release, they recently announced plans to hit the road alongside Real Friends, Grayscale, and Eat Your Heart Out. The upcoming tour will find the bands performing at venues across the country during the months of October and November.

The forthcoming excursion will begin on Oct. 17 at the Garage in Minneapolis and conclude over a month later on Nov. 25 at the House of Blues in Chicago. The complete tour itinerary can be found here.

Boston Manor channel noir films for ‘Bad Machine’

Boston Manor have returned with another new song from their upcoming new album. On Monday (Aug. 13), the English band dropped the music video for their latest single, “Bad Machine.” The over-three-minute music video takes cues from noir films with its sketchy and dark footage as random shots of cash floating in the air, a little girl jump roping, a ballerina spinning, and people with paper bags over their head alternating throughout the clip.

The music video was directed by frontman Henry Cox and was filmed in the band’s hometown of Blackpool over the course of three nights this summer.

“When we composed the song we already had accompanying visuals in mind for it and when recording the album we had films playing in the background that we thought would match up with the sounds we were making,” explains Cox.

He continues: “We knew we wanted to capture some of the sleaziness of the track & condense the video down to a sequence of ‘moments,’ almost like a movie trailer. The song has such massive differences in dynamics between the verses and choruses, so it was important that we captured that in the video.”

“Bad Machine” will join lead single “Halo” on Boston Manor’s upcoming sophomore effort, Welcome to the Neighbourhood. The forthcoming record is due out Sept. 7 through Pure Noise Records. The upcoming album was produced by Mike Sapone whose resume includes Taking Back Sunday, Mayday Parade, and Public Enemy. Pre-orders for the record can be found here.

In support of Welcome to the Neighbourhood’s release, Boston Manor will embark on a United Kingdom/European headlining tour. The trek will find the band performing at venues across the U.K. and Europe during the months of September and October. The tour will begin on Sept. 21 at Thekla in Bristol and conclude a few weeks later on Oct. 13 at Feierwerk + Hansa 39 (Uncle M event) in Munich. Boston Manor announce ‘Welcome to the Neighbourhood,’ stream new single

Boston Manor are back and ready to give fans some brand new, moody tunes. On Monday (June 11), the British band announced the upcoming release of their sophomore album. Tiled Welcome to the Neighbourhood, the album is due out Sept. 7 through Pure Noise Records.

The forthcoming record was produced by Mike Sapone whose resume includes Taking Back Sunday, Mayday Parade, and Public Enemy. Pre-orders for Welcome to the Neighbourhood can be found here.

According to a press release from the band, the album is a “soundtrack to disenfranchisement set in a fictionalized version of the band’s hometown” of Blackpool. The world where Welcome to the Neighbourhood takes place in is one that is bleak with poverty, drug addition, boarded up shops, and a population suck in an unsavory predicament that they cannot seem to escape.

“In the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s Blackpool was this booming town. It was a holiday destination, a place where you can go to forget all your troubles,” explains vocalist Henry Cox. “Now things here are just so fucked up – there are huge drug problems and a 40 percent unemployment rate in the winter. It was once this beautiful thing and it’s become a little bit broken.”

In conjunction with the new album’s announcement, Boston Manor also unleashed the music video for the album’s lead single, “Halo.” According to Cox, the song almost didn’t make it onto the record.

“‘Halo’ almost got scrapped and didn’t make the album,” the singer admits. “It was a totally different song, much slower and moodier. About a month before we went into the studio, we reworked it entirely and it morphed into this current incarnation. It’s a song about feeling trapped; being in a vicious cycle and not knowing if there’ll ever be a way out.”
