All Time Low drop tasty new video for ‘Birthday’

While some people are not big fans of getting surprises for their birthdays, All Time Low are the complete opposite, giving fans a major surprise to jump-start their week.

On Monday (Aug. 13), the Baltimore-founded band unleashed the music video for their latest single, “Birthday.” The almost-four-minute clip begins with all four guys (Alex Gaskarth, Jack Barakat, Zack Merrick, and Rian Dawson) locked inside what looks to be a dark and dingy janitor’s closet. While the lights are out, the viewer watches as each member is passed out, tied down to a chair, and wearing a party hat.

Once the lights are turned on, the guys (and the viewer) find themselves inside of a room painted in a combination of pastels colors that would make the 1980s version of Miami Vice jealous. Seated in the middle of the room on a random table is a three-layer cake with a flamingo sparkler on top. After spending some time struggling to get loose from their binds, someone dressed as a panda walks into the room with a mini blowtorch in hand.

For a second, it looks like the panda is going to set all four guys on fire, but instead, he makes his way over to the cake to light the flamingo sparkler. After some time, the boys find themselves seated around the flamingo cake all dressed in white, eagerly awaiting some of that tempting cake. Since this is an All Time Low music video, by the end of the clip there is birthday cake flying everywhere. Watch the music video for “Birthday” above.

“Birthday” is one of two new songs All Time Low released earlier this year. While the band has yet to confirm or deny whether both “Birthday” and “Everything is Fine” will be featured on a new record, they have announced an exclusive Everything is Fine on Your Birthday 7-inch vinyl. The limited-edition vinyl (only 2,500 are available worldwide) is available on the band’s website.

In support of the new set of tunes, All Time Low are currently on tour with Dashboard Confessional and gnash for the first leg of their joint The Summer Ever After tour while the second leg will begin at the end of September.

Foo Fighters Announce Special “Surprise” Show

When you’re a big rock star, how would you like to spend your birthday?

On an island? With your family?

How about performing for your fans?

Dave Grohl and the rest of the guys from the Foo Fighters will be doing just that this upcoming weekend to celebrate the frontman’s birthday.

The band revealed yesterday afternoon that they will be performing a “surprise” concert this Saturday to celebrate Grohl’s 46th birthday a couple of days early. The show is scheduled to happen on Saturday, Jan. 10 while Grohl’s actual birthday is Wednesday, Jan. 14.

According to a press release for the gig, the show will be performed “in-the-round’ style meaning the band will be performing in the middle of the audience, instead of up on a stage away from the crowd.

Tickets for the gig went up on sale yesterday at 7 p.m. and cost $50 each. Ten of the $50 from each ticket will be donated to three charities: the Rock School Scholarship Fund, MusiCares, and Sweet Relief.

While the show was just announced, we’re pretty sure that ticket are close to being sold out, if they aren’t already sold out.

This birthday “surprise” show is the band’s first official show of the new year. Next week, they will be heading to South America to begin their massive stadium tour.

Foo Fighters Announce Birthday Bash for Next Summer

When you’ve been a band for 20 years, how else would you celebrate that monumental moment than to throw a big bash with some of your closest music industry friends?

And that’s exactly what the Foo Fighters are planning to do next summer.

Earlier in the day, the band announced they would be throwing a star-studded event in Washington D.C. on July 4th to celebrate their 20th “birthday.”

Independence Day might be big for the United States, but for fans of the Foo Fighters, it marks the exact day that Dave Grohl and company released a record under the name that would go on to become a household name.

Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Heart, LL Cool J, Buddy Guy, Clark Grant Jr. and many more have also been announced as performers for the birthday bash. You know, just some of the guys’ friends who happened to appear on their current HBO docu-series Sonic Highways.

Check out the official poster for the event below. Tickets are scheduled to go on sale beginning this Saturday, Nov. 8 at 10 am, so if you have any desire to go to the birthday bash, we’ll advise to be standing in line starting like now.

Party Like It’s Your Worst “Birthday” with Katy Perry

Katy Perry has been known for releasing some “out there” music videos (hello, “Last Friday Night”), so it should come as no surprise that the new music video for current single, “Birthday” would follow that kind of theme.

Earlier in the month, Perry had revealed her fourth single from PRISM would be “Birthday.” Along with the reveal, she uploaded a picture of her as a child with a birthday cake in front of her and an Instagram filter that had her name in balloon letters onto Twitter, sealing that the songs would be the next to hit the radio.

On Monday, she released a teaser for the video which featured a hog-podge of the worst birthday entertainers including Goldie the dancer, Yosef Shulem the MC, Kriss the clown, Ace the animal trainer and Princess Mandee. In case you couldn’t tell, all of the characters were performed by Perry herself.

When asked about why she decided to go this crazy path for her new video during her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel this past Monday, Perry replied, “I was sick of making gorgeous music videos where I’m sexual. That can get boring sometimes and you need to flip it on its head.”

Celebrate Your ‘Birthday’ with Katy Perry

Katy Perry had revealed last week that her next single from her album, Prism would be “Birthday.”

The original post from last week’s “Throw Back Thursday” theme on Twitter showed a picture of a really young Perry in front of a birthday cake with a blurred out little girl next to her which turned out to be her older sister, Angela. The picture had a photoshopped “Happy Birthday” banner on it which led her KatyKats to conclude that her next single would be that track.

A week after the announcement, the lyric video for the track has been unveiled and it looks like Perry is reverting to her old Candyfornia Dreams persona. The video features her playing pastry chef, making delicious cakes inscribed with the lyrics from the song. Even a Hello Kitty cake makes an appearance.
