Ben Platt unleashes ‘The Politician’ companion EP

Armed with a chart-topping debut album, several sold-out gigs, and a hit Netflix series, you’d think Ben Platt would take some kind of time off, right?

Wrong.

On Tuesday (Oct. 22), the award-winning artist unleashed a four-song EP directly connected to his current project, Netflix’s The Politician. Dubbed Music from the Netflix Original Series the Politician (yeah we know, the title is longer than the album’s runtime), the record features updated versions of several tracks from classic and iconic performers.

The album includes reworked versions of Joni Mitchell’s “River,” Billy Joel’s “Vienna,” and Stephen Sondheim’s “Unworthy of Your Love,” the latter performed as a duet by Platt and his The Politician co-star Zoey Deutch (check it out above).

But covers are not the only things you will find on the surprise album. Platt’s original song “Run Away” rounds out the record. “Run Away” can be found on Platt’s recently released debut album Sing to Me Instead.

Sing to Me Instead was released at the end of March and peaked at the number 18 spot on the Billboard 200 chart. Before its release, the album sprouted several singles, including “Temporary Love,” “Grow As We Go,” “Ease My Mind,” and lead single “Bad Habit.”

Last week, Platt made headlines when he appeared on Kelly Clarkson’s talk show and performed his own rendition of Bob Dylan’s 1997 track “Make You Feel My Love” with the “American Idol” winner. The original version of the song can be found on Dylan’s 30th (yup 30th) studio album, Time Out of Mind.

Ben Platt shares the love in ‘Temporary Love’ music video

Since announcing the release of his debut solo album, Ben Platt has been delighting fans by periodically releasing new songs. This week is no different as the musician shared the fourth track from his forthcoming studio effort, Sing to Me Instead.

On Friday (March 8), the singer unveiled the music video for his new song “Temporary Love.” The Nick Lieberman-directed music video begins with Platt seated in what first appears to be a room in an abandoned house.

Platt spends most of the video signing in the room, dancing in the house’s foyer, and even spends a moment outdoors in front of the home. Amid the shots of Platt are shots of several diverse couples showing affection towards their partner in the form of hugs, kisses, and even hand-holding.

Like Platt sings in the chorus: “this is not a temporary love.”

“Temporary Love” joins previously released tracks “Grow As We Go,” “Ease My Mind,” and “Bad Habit” on Platt’s upcoming album. Sing to Me Instead is due out March 29 through Atlantic Records. Pre-orders for the album are currently available on the musician’s website.

Last month, the musician announced plans to embark on a short North American tour throughout May. The Sing to Me Instead tour begins on May 3 at the Chicago Theatre and concludes a few weeks later on May 24 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

Wrabel and Ben Abraham will hit the road alongside Platt as his direct supporting acts.

According to a recent press release, Platt’s show at the Beacon Theater on May 14 in New York City is officially sold out. The show sold out during the pre-sale period in mid-February.
