Jack White unveils surprise new song

Jack White is probably one of the busiest musicians in the world. When he’s not writing music for his slew of bands or hitting the road for his own solo stuff, the singer can be found helping other musicians with their own music. On Friday (April 7), White proved once again why he may be one of the hardest working artists in the music world with the release of a brand new song. Surprising long-time fans, White unleashed a brand new song titled “Battle Cry”; his first new solo material since the release of 2014’s Lazaretto.

Currently, there is no word from White on whether this song will be a stand-alone single or if it’s a teaser of what to expect from this upcoming third studio album. Back in March, the musician spoke with The New Yorker about his new album, the direction he hopes to take with the new material, and how the recording process is going.

As it turns out, the White Stripes head-honcho has been recording his new material on a reel-to-reel tape machine that he bought when he was 14 years old with money he made from mowing lawns. But that isn’t all the readers were treated to in the interview. White also touched on how he wants to write songs similar to how Michael Jackson used to write songs.

“I’m going to try to write songs where I can’t be heard by the next-door neighbor,” the singer begins. “I want to write like Michael Jackson would write — instead of writing parts on the instruments or humming melodies, you think of them. To do everything in my head and to do it in silence and use only one room.”

Imagine Dragons Tease ‘Transformer’ Track

Universal Music Group 2014 Post-Grammy Party

Imagine Dragons have taken over the airwaves with their songs “It’s Time,” “Radioactive,” and current radio mainstay “Demons” and have managed to have one of their songs appear on the Hunger Games: Catching Fire Soundtrack. Now, they can add another box office hit franchise to their list: Transformers.

A teaser for the upcoming incarnation of the Transformers franchise, Transformers: Age of Extinction features a new, original song titled “Battle Cry,” which was written by the band after they were given the chance to watch an early footage screening of the Mark Wahlberg starring film. According to reports, director Michael Bay went on to use the track during “critical points in the film.”

“I remember being drawn to the emotion of ’Demons’ and ’Radioactive’ the first time I heard those songs, and I knew I wanted that same energy and heart for this movie.  They’ve created a really epic, otherworldly sound for ’Battle Cry’,” said Bay in a statement.

Apparently, their connection to the film did not end there. They went on to contribute original music during the scoring process getting the chance to work hand-in-hand with the film’s composer Steve Jablonsky and the master of scoring, Hans Zimmer.

Imagine Dragons are set to perform the new track live, during the worldwide premiere of the film which is slated to take place in Hong Kong on June 19. The band now join Linkin Park and the Goo Goo Dolls who have written tracks primarily for the Transformers soundtracks.
