Tool, Slipknot, blink-182 lead Aftershock 2019 lineup

Tool, Slipknot, and blink-182 are just some of the bands heading to California’s capital in October for the 2019 incarnation of the Aftershock music festival. On Tuesday (April 23), festival organizers announced the rocking lineup for the eighth annual event.

Joining Tool, Slipknot, and blink-182 on this year’s line up are Korn, Rob Zombie, Bring Me the Horizon, Marilyn Manson, Lamb of God, Halestorm, Chevelle, Dropkick Murphys, BABYMETAL, Bad Religion, Stone Temple Pilots, and many more.

“Aftershock Festival is always a unique experience for Korn compared to other festivals,” Korn’s Brian “Head” Welch says.

“One of the main reasons is we have many friends and family that live near Sacto, so it’s always like a family reunion when we play Aftershock. We’ve been gone a while and we’re coming back this year with a new album, new stage look, and a new excitement that is very contagious! We feel like we are on fire right now and our fans are gonna be fuel for the flames!”

Knowing that fans can’t get enough of the music festival, event organizers also unveiled that the festival has expanded from two days to three.

Dubbed “California’s biggest rock festival,” the event will return to its longtime home of Discovery Park in Sacramento during the weekend of Oct. 11-13.

Tickets, VIP packages, and hotel options go on sale this Friday, April 26, at noon PT. Tickets for Aftershock have sold out four years straight, so festival organizers are encouraging fans to get their tickets as soon as possible.

The official announcement comes a day after the lineup was leaked online. According to a Reddit post, the lineup was accidentally uploaded onto the festival’s website a day before it was set to go live. At the time, there was some speculation whether the lineup was real, but it turned out to be true.

For more details about the lineup, tickets, or general inquiries, head on over to Aftershock’s website.

The daily lineup for Aftershock can be found below.

The Offspring, Flogging Molly, Bad Religion lead Sabroso 2019 lineup

The Offspring, Flogging Molly, and Bad Religion are just some of the bands that will make their way to southern Orange County in early April for this year’s Sabroso Craft Beer, Taco, & Music Festival. On Monday (Jan. 28), festival organizers unveiled a rocking roster for the event’s sixth year.

Joining the aforementioned acts on this year’s list are the Descendents, Good Charlotte, Black Flag, Lagwagon, Strung Out, The Suicide Machines, D.I, Face to Face, Plague Vendor, Red City Radio, and Orange Blossom Special.

“Sabroso is now a WEEKEND of our favorite things: tacos, craft beer, and great bands!” says Dexter Holland of The Offspring in a press statement about this year’s event.

“We couldn’t ask for a more perfect lineup and a more perfect location inside of California State Parks…The Offspring, Flogging Molly, Bad Religion, Descendents, Black Flag, and all of the other great acts we have over the weekend… it really doesn’t get better than this,” says Synergy Global Entertainment and Sabroso co-producer John Reese.

“Between the music, unlimited craft beer tastings, tacos, wrestling and more, Sabroso is a can’t miss weekend!”

Like with past years, attendees will get the opportunity to get their grub on with unlimited tastings of gourmet tacos and over 150 craft beers.

In addition to the rocking bands that are set to perform, attendees will also get to see some real Lucha Libre-style wrestling. Renowned Mexico City luchador Cesar Gonzalez (Silver King) will return to Sabroso this year to defend his 2018 title of “King of the Ring.”

But if bands, food, and wrestling aren’t your thing, then maybe the 9th Annual Gringo Bandito Chronic Tacos Challenge may tickle your fancy. Professional eaters from around the world will compete for cash prizes and the highly coveted title of Chronic Tacos Eating Champion.

If you’re wondering how Sabroso will manage to fit all this excitement into one day, you don’t have to wonder any longer. This year will mark the first time the festival has expanded from one day to two.

Sabroso Craft Beer, Taco & Music Festival will return to its home of Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, California during the weekend of April 6-7.

Tickets go on sale this Friday, Feb. 1, at 10 a.m. PT.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Doheny State Beach Interpretive Association (DSBIA). The non-profit association, in conjunction with Doheny State Beach, is dedicated to the protection of the park’s beaches, facilities, marine refuge as well as its historical, cultural, and social stories.

First annual Ye Scallywag! festival to launch in California

Scalleywaglogo

If you were ever referred to as a scallywag as a kid, and loved it, there might be a way for you to continue to be one as an adult. On Monday (Aug. 29), Synergy Global Energy, Brew Ha Ha Productions, and radio stations 91X and KFM-BFM announced the first ever Ye Scallywag! festival. The one-day, California-based event will feature performances by NOFX, Against Me!, and Bad Religion while also giving attendees a large array of craft beer, wine, and food.

“Scallywag! will be unlike any legitimate craft beer or wine event ever produced,” explains Ye Scallywag! co-producer Cameron Collins of Brew Ha Ha Productions. “We are bringing in some of the most sought after and award-winning breweries in the country as well as some incredible wineries from Paso Robles, the Napa Valley, Central Coast, and beyond all set to the music of artists like Bad Religion. We’ve really got something special here!”

“Ye Scallywag! will be the perfect San Diego event to make one truly grateful for this wondrous California lifestyle,” adds 91X’s Halloran. “The craftiness of the beer, wine, food, and bands will prove that indeed, San Diego has the best. I am looking forward to an amazing day.”

Mirroring their sentiments, Fat Mike of NOFX adds: “When I started NOFX in 1983, I dreamed of being a scallywag one day, at least by the time I was 50. Well, not only am I a scallywag, but I’m also playing the scallywag festival! PS: What’s a scallywag? Is that like being a pirate?”

Ye Scallywag! is set to take place on Saturday, Oct. 22, at Waterfront Park in San Diego, CA. The event will feature over 100 craft breweries and artisan wineries while the music portion of the event will kick off at noon. All tickets include beer and wine tasting and access to the BMW of Escondido Main Stage for live music.

Pre-sales for the event will begin on Tuesday, Aug. 30 and will end on Thursday, Sept. 1. General ticket sales will then begin on Friday, Sept. 2 at 10 a.m. PST. As noted on the website, the one-day music festival is for those who are 21 and over. For more information about Ye Scallywag!, head on over to their website here.

Bands join forces for Orlando compilation

Following the horrific Pulse Nightclub shooting, musicians have gathered to help support the victims/families of the shooting and the city of Orlando however they can. Panic! at the Disco held a blood drive and released a limited edition t-shirt with all proceeds being donate. PVRIS and Beartooth did the same by releasing limited edition t-shirts while You Blew It!, who call Orlando home, released an EP benefiting Center Orlando, an LGBT center providing counseling in the wake of the shooting.

On Friday (June 17), it was announced that a slew of artists have joined forces to release a compilation titled Forever Beautiful: A Collection Of Love For Orlando. The record will feature a total of 49 bands with all proceeds from the release going directly to the OneOrlando fund; the fund created to assist those who were victims of the shooting. Bands like  Taking Back Sunday, Real Friends, New Found Glory, Modern Baseball, Allison Weiss, Knuckle Puck, Foxing, Bad Religion, Somos, Anthony Green, You Blew It!, Into It. Over It., Pity Sex, Pinegrove, the Menzingers, Citizen, Thin Lips, Sorority Noise, Tiny Moving Parts, Turnover, Anti Flag, Tigers Jaw, Basement, and more are featured on the massive album.

“This compilation is a love letter to the community of Orlando, FL. Following the tragic events at Pulse Nightclub on June 12th, we wanted to show our support and love for our LGBTQ community the best way we knew how; through music,” begins a collective statement from all the contributing artists.

“The tracks on this album were all individually contributed by the bands and artists themselves; artists from Orlando, New York, California, England, and all over the globe. All proceeds from this compilation will be donated to support the victims of the Pulse shooting as part of the OneOrlando Fund as a symbol of solidarity as our city rebuilds. The price of this album is whatever amount you would like to donate to this cause.”

The compilation can be found here. If you want to help out and donate directly to OneOrlando, that link can be found here.

Avenged Sevenfold Enlist Former Bad Religion Drummer

Avenged Sevenfold has confirmed the identity of their brand new drummer. Weeks after announcing that another drummer had left the band, the California group has unveiled who their new drummer is. During an appearance on Chris Jericho’s “Talk Is Jericho” podcast, frontman M. Shadows confirmed that former Bad Religion drummer, Brooks Wackerman, will in fact be A7X’s new drummer.

In a twist, Wackerman had announced his own departure from Bad Religion, a group he had been with for over a decade, about a week ago. In the interview, Shadows reveals that Wackerman’s name had been tossed around several times since the death of Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan back in 2009. While Wackerman’s name had been suggested during several instances, it didn’t mean that they thought less of the former drummers they had; Mike Portnoy and Arin Ilejay.

“To be honest, Brooks’ name has always been in the mix. It was one of the names we were throwing around when Jimmy passed away in terms of who was going to step up for [2010’s] Nightmare,” said Shadows.

“We felt Mike [Portnoy] was the right choice and we still feel that way. Mike just destroyed on the record. He was perfect. But at the time, our tour manager brought up Brooks’ name as well. But at the time he was also busy with Bad Religion and it was also … people were going to look at it differently because he was a punk drummer at this point.”

But for those Bad Religion fans who may think that A7X “stole” Wackerman from the group, Shadows admits that he started things slowly, not to completely “poach” him from the punk band.

“What we did was we just wanted to make sure we didn’t jump into anything too fast, so for us it was, ‘Can we play the old songs? Let’s go have some rehearsals. Can we write together? Let’s write together. Let’s throw some riffs at him and see what would you play on this and can you give us 10 different drum beats around this riff?’ And it just instantly clicked and everyone was so excited.”

As for Wackerman, he said that he broke the news of his desire to leave Bad Religion to each of the member, individually, right before the last show of their tour.

“I spoke with every band member individually on a day off on tour right before our last show. There’s just a lot of history there, but they understood. They get it. I mean the band has been around for 35 years so they’ve gone through this before.”

As for Avenged Sevenfold and new music, it sounds like there might be something coming our way soon. During the interview, Shadows teased about the direction the new album will be heading.

“The idea of the last record was a very stripped down sound and the idea of the next is a not very stripped down sound.”

The Offspring to Celebrate 20th Anniversary of ‘Smash’ in a Big Way

offspring

The Offspring may or may not be considered one of the godfathers of the punk-rock world, with their random appearances at festivals and concerts or just by putting out catchy tunes (cause they’re pretty fly for white guys). We can attest to that, the first and only time we saw the Offspring was at Warped Tour in 2005 and remember something about a word beginning with the letter “F” and ending in a “K.”

“It’s ‘FIRETRUCK,’ guys!”

But even though they have been in the game for such a long time, it might be surprising to find out that their hit album, Smash will be turning 20 this year. To this day, Smash has sold over 12 million copies and is still considered one of the best-selling independent records of all time.

In honor of the anniversary, the band have already announced plans to release a vinyl/CD reissue of it in August, but that’s not all. Today, an announcement was made, letting fans know that they still have it and will be hitting the road to celebrate the 20 year anniversary.

The tour will feature them performing Smash in its entirety, but once again, that is not where the surprises en. The Offspring will be joined on tour by Bad Religion and/or Pennywise as well as The Vandals, Stiff Little Fingers and Naked Raygun opening on certain dates.

A lot to take in in such a short time span.

And if that wasn’t enough news, a leaked press release shows that the band will be performing at a Chicago venue that is still TBA on September 12 meaning they will be performing at this year’s Chicago Riot Fest.

Yep. Offspring new overload.

Bad Religion Guitarist Leaves Band

image

Longtime Bad Religion guitarist, Greg Heston has left the band. The news which came out of nowhere was revealed a few days ago.

The guitarist took to Twitter to confirm that he has departed the band that he had been in for the past 29 years.

On the social media site, Heston wrote a simple confirmation which read: “As some people noticed I have left @badreligion. Thanks to everyone for the 29 plus years of support. Stay tuned here and Instagram for updates.”

Judging from the context of the message, it was apparent that people were beginning to wonder what happened to him and this was just a confirmation to something that fans might have already been suspicious about.

As of now, there has been no more information as to why, after such a longtime in the punk group, Heston had decided to leave, but like he said, keep an eye out on his social media accounts.
