As the world was getting ready to bid adieu to 2016, fans of Of Mice and Men were given the news that an important member of the band will no longer be featured in the lineup. On Friday (Dec. 30), frontman Austin Carlile announced he had departed the band. The singer’s announcement came a couple of months after the band had to pull out of their European tour due to Carlile having to undergo surgery again for his Marfan’s Syndrome. In a lengthy post to fans. The former frontman revealed in the post that he finally realized he needed to stop during that cancelled tour. “I had three tears in my dual sac surrounding my spinal cord, and we discovered that every time I would push down to scream spinal fluid would rush though the tears which was causing me the violent pain every time I’d perform,” Carlile explains in his letter. Since revealing to the public his longtime struggle with Marfan’s Syndrome last year, the frontman has been open about his struggle every day.

During his time in the hospital in 2015, Carlile had assured fans that he was hopeful he would be well enough to perform for the group’s dedicated followers. Apparently, as explained to Carlile, his team of medical professionals had advised him that if he continued, he would cause “permanent and irrevocable damage” to his spinal cord and nervous system. Because of the news, Carlile decided to step away from the band, even if he says it was the hardest thing he had to do. “After learning this I realized that I had to step away from Of Mice and Men. No longer able to scream most of our old material, or continue to scream on anything new, I cannot continue on. This has been the hardest thing that has happened in my life for a very long time, but thankfully the band, my family, and closest friends stand behind me and understand.”

As stated in Carlile’s letter, the remaining members of Of Mice and Men (Aaron Pauley, Alan Ashby, Phil Manansala, and Valentino Arteaga) are supportive of his decision, especially his well-being was always important to them. “Though we’re heartbroken that he [Austin] can no longer continue, his health has always been of utmost importance to us and we support him now in this decision and are proud of his perseverance over the years.”

While they are currently down a singer, the band has announced that they will continue as a four-piece. Currently, the first show the band has planned for 2017 is their appearance at the Download Festival during the weekend of June 9-11 in the United Kingdom. After that, they are scheduled to hit the European road later that month. For now, both letters from Carlile and the remaining members of Of Mice and Men can be seen here.

Of Mice and Men frontman opens up about heart surgery

Last year was not a very good year for Of Mice & Men frontman Austin Carlile. A few days before their spring 2015 tour was to wrap up, the singer was hospitalized and later underwent heart surgery to deal with ongoing issues brought on by Marfans Syndrome. After undergoing the surgery, and even having a misfortune event when he was electrocuted in September, Carlile and company are back on the touring circuit.

During a recent sit down with Metal Hammer, the frontman opened up about everything that has happened since the surgery and how he was clinically dead for a couple of hours.

“It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever gone through. It’s hard to go through something like that that’s dangerous in general, and just to not know if you’re gonna be there, four, five or six hours later. When I had my heart surgery, my heart was stopped. They put my head in a whole thing of ice, to stop your brain activity, you’re dead. I was clinically dead for three hours while they did the procedure,” he explains.

“There’s so much stuff going through my head. Like, ‘Am I going to see my mum? What’s going to happen?’ Like, who knows, I was kind of excited. But the one thing I remember right before I went under, and before they put in the relax sedative into you, I was just sitting there and my sister and my dad were there and they said goodbye and started wheeling me back. I just remember being so at peace, and I remember saying, ‘Look God, this is in your hands.’ It was out of my hands completely at that point.”

He continues: “I said, ‘I have to have faith that you have a plan for me and you want me to do something with my life. And if you don’t, then it’s just going to end right here. And if it doesn’t, then I need to wake up and do that.'”

With such a serious surgery, it should come as no surprise that the pain post-surgery was just worse. Carlile goes on the explain how the post-surgery pain was probably worse than any of the pain he had felt in his life. He ended up spending two weeks in the hospital working on his recovery and then an additional week-and-a-half fighting pneumonia.

But all that is now a thing in the past as Carlile has returned to the stage, just like the group has promised at the end of 2015. In addition to their slew of current tour dates with Slipknot and Marilyn Manson and then their own headlining gigs in Europe, the California-based band also confirmed the release of their fourth studio album.

Cold World and is set to be released on Sept. 9 through Rise Records.

Of Mice & Men Frontman Electrocuted

Poor Austin Carlile just can’t catch a break.

The unfortunate Of Mice & Men frontman spent the summer in and out of hospitals due to his Marfan syndrome acting up and a broken rib that he obtained during the band’s most recent tour. Now, Carlile can add electrocution to the long list of reasons that he has called a hospital home.

Over the weekend, it appears that Of Mice & Men, or at least Carlile, had been rehearsing after the band’s several month hiatus. During the rehearsal, Carlile’s microphone malfunctioned, resulting in the singer receiving an electric shock. He went onto Twitter the day after he had been released from the hospital to update fans on what had happened.

In a pair of tweets, Carlile revealed that he had been hospitalized for 24 hours as a precaution. He also wrote that he received burns on his fingers from the mic shock and feels like he had been “run over by a truck.”

Not a good feeling for someone who had spent over a month recovering from multiple surgeries. Read the pair of tweets below.

Back in August, Of Mice & Men announced they had cancelled the remainder of their 2015 tour dates, including Ozzfest Japan in November, so that Carlile could “recover so that we may come back in 2016 stronger than ever.”

Wishing Austin a speedy recovery. Again.

Of Mice and Men Frontman “Closer to 100%”

Of Mice and Men frontman Austin Carlile has given fans a major update about his health; he’s “closer to 100%.”

The frontman, who was hospitalized at the beginning of June, has had to undergo several serious surgeries during the last month due to Marfans Syndrome, a genetic disorder that affects the body’s connective tissues. But through the horrendous ordeals, one thing stayed constant, Carlile’s goal of getting better and making sure fans were updated on his recovery.

Last weekend, Carlile posted a major update for fans in which he revealed that he is getting closer to 100%.

He followed up the good news by revealing that he is also undergoing physical therapy and that even though it’s hard, “nothing comes easy.”

It also appears that getting better isn’t the only goal the singer has set. Taking a look at Of Mice and Men’s website, it appears that they have some upcoming shows still scheduled for 2015. The first has the band performing at the Louder Than Life Festival in Louisville, KY on Oct. 3 and 4. A little over a month after that, they are scheduled to head overseas to play at Ozzfest Japan on Nov. 21.

Of Mice and Men Frontman Undergoes ‘Big Operation’

Of Mice and Men frontman Austin Carlile underwent a serious and “big” surgery yesterday, over a week after OM&M broke the news that the band had to cancel the final two days of their “Full Circle Tour” with Crown the Empire and Volumes due to their singer being hospitalized.

When the news broke, no one knew what led to Carlile’s hospitalization, but it was eventually revealed it was stemming from Marfan syndrome, a genetic disorder that affects the body’s connective tissue, which the singer has.

Last week, Carlile had updated fans that he was being moved from the hospital he had been checked into to Stanford University where he would be in the care of his own cardiologist as well as a Marfan specialist.

On Twitter yesterday, Carlile updated fans with the news about the then upcoming surgery and hoped that it would be “the most effective of all the procedures they’ve tried” on him to combat Marfan or at least keep it at bay.

After his several posts on both Twitter and Instagram, support immediately began to flood in from fans as well as fellow musicians. OM&M bandmate Aaron Pauley, Periphery guitarist Mark Holcomb, and Hatebreed singer Jamey Jasta all sent him well wishes in their own kooky way, as can be seen below.

Like everyone else, we wish Carlile nothing but the best and hope you get better soon!

Austin Carlile Updates Fans on Hospitalization

It’s been several days since Of Mice & Men broke the news to fans that the final two stops of their “Full Circle Tour” had been cancelled due to frontman Austin Carlile being hospitalized for unknown reasons.

Now, four days later, Carlile has taken to Twitter to thank the fans for their dedication and well-wishes. He also updated his followers that he will be transferred to Stanford University sometime this week to get the “health situation at hand under control” and to be in the care of his cardiologist and a Marfan specialist.

One silver-lining in all of this; Carlile’s promise that he’s “never giving up.”

Check out the slew of tweets from the singer and a picture update from the hospital on Instagram below.

Of Mice & Men were supposed to wrap up their “Full Circle Tour” earlier this week (June 9) at El Plaza Condesa in Mexico City. The tour was in support of the reissue of 2014’s Restoring Force, Restoring Force: Full Circle which came out earlier this year.

Of Mice & Men Cancel Tour Dates Due to Frontman’s Hospitalization

Fans of Of Mice & Men who were slated to see the final days of the band’s current tour were given some disappointing news; the shows have been cancelled.

Over the weekend, frontman Austin Carlile was admitted into the hospital and was advised by doctors to stay overnight, though there has been no word on what exactly led to Carlile being admitted in the first place.

The band took to Facebook after his admittance to release a statement about the cancellation of the final dates of their tour and how they will make it up to those unfortunate fans.

“Of Mice & Men regrets to announce that the remaining dates of the ‘Full Circle Tour’ will be cancelled. Therefore, tonight’s [Sunday’s] show at Soma in San Diego and Tuesday’s show at El Plaza Condesa in Mexico City will no longer go ahead. Lead singer Austin Carlile was admitted to a hospital yesterday morning and per doctor’s orders has been kept in overnight for evaluation. The band regrets not being able to perform for their fans and hopes to be back in both cities as soon as possible. Refunds for both shows will be available at point of purchase, however Of Mice & Men are planning to reschedule both shows for a later date in the year. We will have more news on this in the coming weeks and tickets holders are welcome to retain their tickets, as they will remain valid for these rescheduled dates.”

In a twist, as pointed out by Loudwire, this isn’t the first time the band has had to cancel tour dates due to Carlile being hospitalized. Last year, the band has to cancel some European stops because Carlile had gotten a neck injury that he never got checked out. It ended up pushing at the back of his heart and due to previous heart issues, he had to remain hospitalized for several days.

The now-cancelled remaining days of the “Full Circle Tour” was in support of the band’s recently released album, Restoring Force: Full Circle, the reissue of 2014’s Restoring Force.

Of Mice & Men Cancel Upcoming Tour Dates

Bad news has surfaced for fans of Of Mice & Men who happen to live across the pond. The band have announced that they will be cancelling several shows due to frontman Austin Carlile’s health.

The band have been on a major tour since 2014 began, and it looks like the heavy touring might have caught up with Carlile. Early this morning, OM&M posted an update on all their social media accounts explaining that they have been forced to cancel several of their upcoming European tour dates.

The reason behind the cancellation all stems from Carlile and his “unforseen health issues.”

The cancellation means that their appearances at some European festivals including Pukkelpop and Summer Breeze have been scraped. One festival that will not be OM&M-less; Reading and Leeds.

The festival which is slated to take place next weekend (August 22-24) , will not be missing the California band from their line-up.

Read the band’s statement below and wish Carlile a speeding recovery.

Due to Austin having unforeseen health issues we’re unfortunately not going to be able to play the first few festivals of our upcoming tour in Europe while he rests up. This will include our scheduled appearances at Summer Breeze today, Pukkelpop on Friday and Elb-Riot and X-Rockest this weekend. We apologise to our fans in Belgium and Germany who were attending these shows but we will be back soon to make up for this. We are going to be resuming our tour on August 19th in Berlin and all other upcoming shows including Reading and Leeds Festivals are unaffected.

The band’s latest record, Restoring Force was released back in January and reached the number 4 spot on the Billboard 200.
