Coldplay

Congrats to Coldplay on receiving this year’s Hollywood Song Award!

The band who are made up of Chris Martin, Guy Berryman,Will Champion and Jonny Buckland, will receive the award at the  17th annual Hollywood Film Awards, the first awards show of the 2013 season. The song that won the award is their recently released new track, Atlas which is on The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Soundtrack.

The song was just released this past September, but it has already made its way up several charts including the iTunes charts which it took its place at number one.

Not too shabby for a their first new song since 2011’s Mylo Xyloto.

The awards’ gala is set to take place on October 21 at the Beverly Hilton and Martin will be accepting the award on behalf of the group and also perform it at the event.

The Hollywood Film Awards are determined by founder and executive director Carlos de Abreu and as well as an advisory committee.

“The Hollywood Film Awards is thrilled to present the Hollywood Song Award to a band as globally respected and prolific as Coldplay. They continue to build their legacy and, with ‘Atlas’ marking the first time they have recorded for a motion picture, we cannot think of an artist better deserving of this honor,” de Abreu was quoted as saying.

While Coldplay are one of the honorees for the event there are many others that have already been announced as well including Harrison Ford, Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock, Matthew McConaughey and many more. The Hunger Games had Taylor Swift and the Civil Wars contribute a song to the soundtrack and just a few weeks back, it was announced that Coldplay would be contributing a song for the sequel of the hit film and book series.

Coldplay announced back in early August that they had written and recorded a new song titled, Atlas that would be making its debut in September and also be featured on The Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack.

Today, the British band revealed, first, a 90-second-clip of the anticipated track and then shortly followed it up by releasing a lyric video for the song. “Atlas” marks the first time that the band have ever contributed a song for a film. Last time the band had been in the public eye, was last year when they wrapped up their Mylo Xyloto tour, but word on the street says that they are working on new material,

When asked about why they chose Coldplay to contribute a song for the album, film director, Francis Lawrence said, “I have great respect and admiration for Coldplay, and we are thrilled with how well they have connected to the themes and ideas within the film.”

He added, “their unwavering passion and excitement for the project elevated the collaboration even further, and we can’t wait to share this music with audiences around the world.”

And share they did today, twice.
