Andrew McMahon announces intimate shows for December

There’s nothing cooler than seeing a musician perform with almost no instruments.

There’s nothing to hide if something goes wrong, and it’s also been said that it’s the most intimate thing a musician can do.

Well, it looks like Andrew McMahon is ready to take the plunge and go on a tour doing just that.

On Tuesday (Oct. 8), the Something Corporate singer announced plans to embark on a brief tour at the end of the year. Dubbed the “Winter in the Wilderness Tour,” the trek will find McMahon visiting several venues across the United States with just him and his trusty piano.

The two week-run begins on Dec. 3 at the Beacham in Orlando and concludes on Dec. 20 at the Cave Big Bear in Big Bear Lake, California.

“This will be the first time in 19 years on the road that I’ve toured the U.S. solo with my piano,” the singer reveals in a post on Twitter.

“Frankly, the idea always terrified me. That said, I’m looking forward to the intimacy of an evening of storytelling and deep dives in small rooms where we can sing, laugh, and closeout another beautiful year together.”

Singer Ivory Layne will join McMahon on the December-centric outing. The duo previously worked on Zombies on Broadway track “Dead Man’s Dollar,” so it’s only natural that McMahon would enlist a friend to join him for the run.

Pre-sales for the tour begin this Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 10 a.m. local time.

Before hitting the road with his piano, McMahon and his Dear Jack Foundation will host their 5th Annual VIP Night event. This year, the event will include an acoustic set from McMahon as well as a panel discussion.

The Dear Jack Foundation’s 5^th Annual VIP Night will take place on Nov. 10 at the Lodge Room in Los Angeles. Advance ticket purchase is required.

Andrew McMahon releases lyric video for ‘Fire Escape’

Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness recently wrapped up a massive summer tour, opening up for Panic! at the Disco and Weezer which found them traveling all over North America. During the trek, the group led by Jack’s Mannequin/Something Corporate head honcho Andrew McMahon, unveiled a brand new song titled “Fire Escape.” Now, months after debuting the song live, McMahon and company have released the official lyric video for the new track. Taking to social media, McMahon explained in lengthy post, how a night off in a “town that’s been known to get the best of me” inspired the song.

“I’d been traveling in support of the first Wilderness album for nearly two years when I found myself with a rare weekend off in a town that’s been known to get the best of me. The acrobat, the banker, the oxblood friend; these larger than life characters are the real life squad that lead me through the boroughs, bodegas, bars, and subway stations found in the lyrics of this song.

When it was said and done the nearly illegible pocket-size notebook prose charting out adventures was curated in a high-rise studio off 49th street. The friends I made there, while writing ‘Fire Escape’ have gone on to be the collaborators in charge of bringing the full-length album to life. We bonded over the thought of old friends losing their shit in a city that doesn’t sleep, but also about the beauty of having a home to crawl back to when the sun comes out.

A number one if you will. I think it’s the realization that sometimes the party does end and in that moment where you’re standing and who you’re standing next to says a lot about what comes next. ‘Fire Escape’ is a song full of mantras from a time filled with joy and achievement, chaos, insecurity, and good friends. ‘Never go home,’ ‘We belong awake’…maybe these are words to live by. Maybe I adopted them as a credo to justify my true nature as a escapist. Whatever it is, it’s yours now. It’s my pleasure to welcome you to the party. Try not to break anything.”

Currently, “Fire Escape” is available for purchase on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Spotify, and Apple Music. As of now, there is no word on whether this is a one-off single or if the track will be featured on a possible new record for the group. Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness released their debut, self-titled record back in 2014. Continuing with their never-ending touring schedule, McMahon and company will hit the North American road once more of their own headlining tour with the New Politics and the Griswolds. Watch Andrew McMahon Use Toy Instruments for “Cecilia and the Satellite”

At this point, we’re sure that everyone has fallen in love with Andrew McMahon at some point in his lengthy career whether it was while he was part of Something Corporate and Jack’s Mannequin or when he does his solo stuff.

Today, McMahon had added another “aw” to his column when he released a special version of his newest song, “Cecilia and the Satellite.”

Taking inspiration from Jimmy Fallon and the Roots, McMahon decided to play the song using nothing but toy instruments. In the clip, you see him playing a tiny pink piano, a xylophone, a tambourine, and what we think is a baby maraca (we’re not so sure).

Check out the new version of “Cecilia and the Satellite” and try not to let your heart melt and a tear come from your eye when you remember the song was written for his baby daughter.

Coachella Organizers Reveal Long-Awaited 2015 Line-Up

Following a few months of speculation and predictions, the line-up for this year’s Coachella has been revealed.

The festival organizers took to Twitter to break the new in which they wrote, “For those about to RT.” A photo was attached to the tweet which contained the full line-up of all the artists who will take the trip to California in April.

Performers for the two weekend-long festival will include: AC/DC, Jack White, Brand New, Bad Religion, Circa Survive, Interpol, Belle and Sebastian, Drake, Florence and the Machine, Kaskade, Ryan Adams, David Guetta, Fitz and the Tantrum, Marina and the Diamonds, LIGHTS, Andrew McMahon, and many, many more.

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival will take place in Indio during two consecutive weekends in April. The first weekend will take place April 10-12 while the second weekend will take place April 17-19.

Stream Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness’ Debut

Yesterday, Andrew McMahon revealed that he was streaming his newest solo project’s debut record.

Today, the musician informed fans that not only is his record label, Vanguard, currently streaming the anticipated self-titled over at SoundCloud, but for the next week, they can head on over to Pandora and listen to the album in full as part of online streaming service’s Pandora Premieres.

Like previous artists like Anberlin and most recently Yellowcard, fans of the artists log into the streaming service and are able to hear the new album in full with minimal, if any, commercial interruptions.

Until now, McMahon has released several tracks from Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness since the initial announcement that he had created another solo project. Tracks such as “Canyon Moon,” “High Dive,” “Halls” and lead single, “Cecilia and the Satellite” have previously been released.

Unlike what some believe, the self-titled debut is not scheduled to be released until next Tuesday, Oct. 14.

In support of the new album, McMahon will be hitting the road for a short tour with Junior Prom and Hunter Hunted. Tour dates for that Fall tour can be seen here.

Andrew McMahon Debuts New Song at Recent Show

Andrew McMahon has once again released another song under his new solo endeavor, Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness.

The song has not been officially released as a single, but the track is being performed for a live audience already.

The new song is titled, “Hall” and footage of the new song from a recent show in Tempe, AZ can be seen below.

“Halls” will join previously released tracks, “Canyon Moon,” “High Dive,” and lead single, “Cecilia and the Satellite” on McMahon’s upcoming debut. The debut will be self-titled and released through Vanguard Record on Oct. 14.

McMahon will be heading out on a Fall tour beginning on Oct. 14 in San Diego with Junior Prom and Hunter Hunted. Tour dates can be seen below.

Take a ‘High Dive’ with Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness

Andrew McMahon revealed his new project, Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness back in July month as well as the first single “Cecilia and the Satellite” which he named after his daughter, Cecilia.

Today, McMahon and his new moniker have released another new song from his upcoming new record. The song is titled “High Dive” and is currently being streamed through BuzzFeed.

For those wanting to get your hands on the record, the album is currently up for pre-orders on iTunes. The self-titled album is set to be released on October 14 through Vanguard Records, just in time for his headlining tour.

In an interview with Buzzfeed, McMahon reveals the inspiration behind the new song and just like Cecilia, it’s a female close to him that inspired it in a way; his wife.

“When I found out I was ill, nearly 10 years ago now, my wife, then girlfriend, and I had just begun the process of reconciling after being separated,” said McMahon.

“We married in the midst of my recovery and left the beach towns where we grew up to hide out in Los Angeles. Moving back to the beach in 2011 began the process of closing the loop on that chapter of my life and forced me to revisit loose ends. In ‘High Dive’ I found myself asking the question, ‘if this wild disruption had never taken place what would that reconciliation have looked like? Would I be the guy driving by her house late at night, hoping to catch a glimpse of her, but knowing I couldn’t come in?’ In its most universal sense it’s about loving someone so much that you’ll take anything they’re willing to give even if it’s not enough.”

Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness to Release Debut Record

Andrew McMahon might be in the midst of a small tour, but now the Something Corporate and Jack’s Mannequin frontman has revealed that his new act, Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness will be releasing a debut record.

The album will be his self-titled record which will be released on October 14 through Vanguard Records. Aside from the release date, the singer has also unveiled the album art which is simply two people standing in front of a calm ocean.

Last month, the frontman released a song titled “Cecilia and the Satellite” as a tribute to his newborn daughter, Cecilia. Like stated before, McMahon is currently on tour, promising fans via Twitter that more dates will be sprouting soon, most likely in support of the new album.

After announcing the debut record, McMahon also thanks fans for joining him on his new journey and to keep an eye out for “more music, pre-orders, music videos and more coming soon!”

Andrew McMahon Releases Third New Song

Earlier this week Something Corporate and Jack’s Mannequin frontman Andrew McMahon has dropped two new songs as well as news that he would be pursuing a new solo endeavor named, Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness.

Today, the singer under his new project’s name, dropped another new song titled, “Cecillia and the Satellite.”

For those that don’t know, McMahon and his wife welcomed a little girl earlier this year whose name just so happens to be Cecillia.

I’ve always thought of music as a mirror to the adventure of living. Over the last 14 years I have lived many lives and had the opportunity to play stages around the world in various incarnations.

At times I’ve performed simply as Andrew McMahon but mostly as Jack’s Mannequin and Something Corporate. As I embark on yet another musical adventure, I will be traveling with my band to many of those same stages, this time as “Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness”. I suppose my wilderness is mostly an abstract one.

Since putting Jack’s behind me, I have forced myself into strange spaces seeking new stimulus. New lights on the path to the high of a finished song.

Since getting off tour last summer this pursuit intensified. From more than one Southern California garage, to a cabin set deep in Topanga Canyon, to a shoebox studio in the thick of the Hollywood tourist traps, the only constants have been my keyboard and a desire to make my best music.

I’ve met amazing people in the process; people who have propped this mission up, adding a palate of sound and perspective. This new name carries with it the spirit of that collaboration. As my fans, you have seen me through many transitions. From a misunderstood pop band in a punk world, to a man in transit sent spinning through illness and recovery. We’ve seen each other through a lot. We met me in the pop underground, I hope to see you in the wilderness.  More big news to come…stay tuned.

Andrew McMahon Drops Another New Song

Yesterday afternoon, Something Corporate and Jack’s Mannequin frontman, Andrew McMahon dropped a brand new song, “After the Fire” from his upcoming solo EP, The Pop Underground.

Today, the singer released another new track from the four-song EP due out on April 30th. The song, “Learn to Dance” has been a staple during his recent tour, but only the live version has been heard. The newly released track is a studio version of the song which will be featured on.

McMahon said the following about the song:

““I had just finished a really inspiring two-day writing session for another artist and went out to celebrate with some friends,” he says. “We ended up watching the sun come up despite the fact I was scheduled to meet a young producer in the morning to begin work on some of my own material. I spent the first half of the day hungover, hitting dead ends, working on a song I had written prior.”

With a different mindset, Andrew found the inspiration to write the track, which reflects the lessons he’s learned from the past.

“Mark, the producer I’d just met, finally said, ‘I think we should write something brand new.’ He put up a beat, and it brought me out of my fog,” Andrew says. “I laid down the simple piano line you hear in the intro and this boozy, regretful lyric. It quickly turned into flashbacks from my childhood and glimpses into the future. In a lot of ways it’s about finding forgiveness and learning how to acknowledge the past in a way that lets you live in the present.”
