2017 Alternative Press Music Awards nominees announced

Last week, Alternative Press confirmed the first wave of artists set to hit the stage during the 2017 Alternative Press Music Awards set to take place this summer. On Tuesday (April 25), the rock-centric publication unveiled the list of categories and nominees for the summertime music awards show. In addition to the typical categories such as “Artist of the Year,” “Song of the Year,” and “Best Music Video,” the fourth incarnation of the annual awards show added two new categories to the list; “Best Hard Rock Artist” and “Best New Artist.”

“This year’s nominations are from a very diverse pool of artists, probably the most diverse we’ve ever had,” said Alternative Press founder and CEO Mike Shea. “We are representing genres from alternative to indie pop to hard rock to metal – all of whose nominations showcase the best in their field as chosen by a pool of input from fans, music industry VIPs, and the staff at Alternative Press.”

Fans can currently go to Alternative Press’ website and vote for their favorite artists in all the categories. Voting is officially underway with the polls closing on Friday, June 30.  Tickets for the awards show are also available on the publication’s website.

In addition to adding new categories and featuring a more diverse list of performers, this year will also mark the first time in two years that the awards show has changed hosts. Earlier this year, the publication released a short clip featuring previous 2015 and 2016 hosts Alex Gaskarth and Jack Barakat from All Time Low, handing over the APMAs hosting mantle over to Black Veil Brides/Andy Black leader, Andy Biersack.

The 2017 Alternative Press Music Awards is set to take place on July 17 at the Quicken Loans Arena in the publication’s hometown of Cleveland, Ohio. Previously announced acts including All Time Low, New Years Day, Sleeping with Sirens, Pierce the Veil, The Pretty Reckless, Bone Thugs (the extension of Bone Thugs N Harmony), Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness, Against Me!, Machine Gun Kelly, and Korn were confirmed to hit the stage during this year’s festivities.

Good Charlotte Frontman Teases New Album in Interview

image

Good news Good Charlotte fans, it looks like the band’s much-anticipated new album will be coming our way some time this year. In an interview with Alternative Press, frontman Joel Madden sat down with the publication to speak about everything that has happened within the last couple of months. As anticipated, talks turned to whether the group had a new album in the works which, as most fans figured, they do.

“It feels like the GC of the past, but there’s a new energy to it,” explained Madden. “We made the record with John Feldmann, who we’ve never been able to make a full record with before, so there’s a lot of energy there. It wasn’t a record where we had to think about the radio, so it’s really a record we just want to play live. There’s something really alive about it. It feels really vital.”

Talks of whether the Baltimore band had a new album in the works or already completed began once they released their new single, “Makeshift Love.” The song signaled the end of the group’s five-year hiatus, though it technically ended when they contributed a new song to Adam Sandler’s video game-centric film, Pixels, last summer.

While there was no name or projected released date given for the album, we can all agree that it’s good to know there’s new music on the horizon. Good Charlotte’s last album before decided to go on a break was 2010’s Cardiology. Even with out a new album full of songs, the group will be hitting the road for a short tour at the beginning of February.

Good Charlotte will be joining All Time Low for the European leg of their “Back to the Future Hearts Tour.” The trek will officially kick off on Feb. 10 at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff and wrap up on Feb. 16 at Jarena in Dublin.

Good Charlotte Update Fans on Their Return

image

The Good Charlotte news just keeps coming in.

After announcing their return to music earlier this week, the pop-punk band has finally unveiled their brand new song in full. Taking to social media on Thursday morning (Nov. 5), the Maryland band unveiled that their new single’s title is “Makeshift Love.” The new song was to make its official debut on Apple Music and will only be available through iTunes until Saturday, Nov. 7. After that, the song will become available at all other digital media stores. Listen to “Makeshift Love” here.

In addition to the new song, the band also revealed why they kept teasing “one night only” on social media recently. As it turns out, they will reunite on stage at Los Angeles’ Troubadour for one night only on Thursday, Nov. 19. The event, which is sponsored by Alternative Press will not only be the first time the band has performed together on stage since their hiatus, it also marks a return to the beginning for them.

“We played the Troubadour and [producer] Eric Valentine came out to see us in front of our fans. That night we decided we would go into the studio together and make the next record, which would become The Young and The Hopeless,” guitarist Benji Madden revealed to Alternative Press.

As for their reunion, it’s more of a thank you for the fans who stuck it out while they took some time off. “We all wanted to stand on stage together again, as a band,” explains Madden about the band’s decision to reunite after five years. “We wanted to do it especially for our fans at home in America, and share this special moment.”

In the interview, Madden was also asked about the idea behind the new song which turns out, is not so different from songs from their past.

“Like all our breakup songs, it’s kind of a ‘non-break-up break-up song’,” he laughs. “In our music, there has always been some hope that it will all work out and, just like all of our affectionately sarcastic songs of the past, there is the same duality in this song too.”

And if the new song, the one night only show, and the reunion announcement wasn’t enough, Madden did go on to tease that 2016 is the 20th anniversary of the band. “2016 marks the 20 year anniversary of GC. These days, we are all operating on feelings, so we will see how it feels!”

Now, that make us wonder if Madden is just being a troll or if it’s some kind of teasing that fans might get something like a new album or a 20th anniversary tour next year. Like he said, we are “operating on feelings” which is why anniversary tours are a thing now.

Tickets for the Good Charlotte reunion show will go on sale on Friday, Nov. 6, beginning at 10 am PT. For more information about the show, especially about tickets, head on over tot eh band’s website.

XTRMST Tell “Coward” to Bow Their Head in New Song

wpid-tumblr_inline_neyfoe8qfz1qzxlbn.jpeg

Yesterday afternoon, AFI side project XTRMST premiered their morph-suit starring music video for lead single “Conformist.”

Now, the band which is made up of AFI frontman Davey Havok and bassist Jade Puget, have debuted another new song from their self-titled, debut record due out next week.

The song is titled “Coward, Bow Your Head.”

Yeah we know, a very powerful title and scary title, if we do say so ourselves.

During a recent interview with Alternative Press, Havok was asked about the identity of the so-called coward in the heavy song.

He responded by telling the magazine that they were not referring to one specific person, but rather all the people out there who claimed the straight-edge movement was a fraud.

Check out the song here.

XTRMST debut album, is set to be released next Tuesday, Nov. 18 through DJ Steve Aoki’s record label, DIM MAK.

Man Overboard to Begin Recording New Album

image

It’s been over a year since Man Overboard released their last studio album, Heart Attack, and in a less than a week, the New Jersey-based band will be releasing a five song EP titled Passing Ends through their own record label, Lost Tape Collective.

In support of the EP’s release, the band sat down to speak with Alternative Press at their headquarters about everything that has been going on with them, including: postponing their UK Heart Attack tour due to vocalist/bassist Nik Bruzzese’s ACL surgery, the misfortune of their supporting act (Hostage Calm) disbanding, and if they think they will always refer to themselves as a pop-punk band.

With all that good information, one of the biggest pieces of information came when the band revealed that they were currently working on their fourth studio album already.

“We’re writing and demoing songs right now. We’re gonna go and record it next year,” guitarist Justin Collier said.

“We’re trying to do everything the way we used to as far as hanging out in Nik’s studio a lot which is how we started our band,” vocalist/guitarist Zac Eisenstein said.

“We’re just trying not to do anything different, but we’re getting stuff done [and that’s why I came here tonight]. We’re gonna work on some ideas. Without process, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

But for those across the pond who were worrying that Man Overboard won’t make it there next year for those postponed dates, don’t fret because the band confirmed that the will be finding an act to take the dearly departed Hostage Calm’s place.

“We’re going to replace Hostage Calm with another band; we don’t know who yet. Everything will come together,” Collier assured. Postponed tour dates can be seen below.

The music magazine which many of us probably lived on during those rough teen years, has announced that they will be holding the inaugural Alternative Press Music Awards at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum on July 21 in the magazine’s hometown of Cleveland. For those not able to attend, AXS TV will be broadcasting the show live.

The show will be hosted by blink-182’s Mark Hoppus and will feature live performances. Performers that have been confirmed at the moment are Fall Out Boy, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, the Misfits, A Day To Remember, All Time Low, Brendon Urie of Panic!
