With just a few days left until the release of their long-awaited new album, Alkaline Trio just unveiled another new song from it. On Tuesday (Aug. 28), the California-founded band unleashed a third new song from their upcoming ninth studio album; a track titled “Demon and Division.” Listen to “Demon and Division” above.
“Demon and Division” will join “Blackbird” and the record’s title track “Is This Thing Cursed?” on the forthcoming record. Is This Thing Cursed? is due out Aug. 31 through Epitaph Records. Pre-orders for the album are still available on Alkaline Trio’s website which now includes pre-orders for a special vinyl due out Oct. 19.
Is This Thing Cursed? is the follow-up to the group’s last studio album, 2013’s My Shame is True.
In support of the new album’s release, the band just concluded the first leg of their North American tour itinerary. Following a month or so off where frontman Matt Skiba will re-join Blink-182 for a mini tour during the month of September, the band will jump-start the second leg of the tour on Oct. 4 at The Observatory in Santa Ana, California. A few weeks alter, the tour will come to an end on Oct. 18 at The Catalyst in Santa Cruz, California.
Garage rock outfit PANGEA will open for Alkaline Trio during both legs of the tour. For now, Alkaline Trio’s full tour itinerary can be found here.
It’s been a couple of months since Alkaline Trio announced plans to release a brand new record later this month. With a few short weeks left until their ninth studio album is in the hands of fans, the band has released yet another new tune from the impending LP. On Tuesday (Aug. 7), the California-founded group debuted their forthcoming album’s second single, and title track, “Is This Thing Cursed?”
The barely-three-minute song begins slowly, giving the impression that it will be some kind of piano-driven ballad. About a minute into the song, the sound changes from the ballad format to the standard Alkaline Trio, pop-punk goodness fans have come to expect and love from the act. Listen to “Is This Thing Cursed?” above.
“Is This Thing Cursed?” will join lead single “Blackbird” on Alkaline Trio’s forthcoming record. Is This Thing Cursed? is due out Aug. 31 through Epitaph Records. Pre-orders for the album are currently available on Alkaline Trio’s website.
Is This Thing Cursed? is the follow-up to the group’s last studio album, 2013’s My Shame is True.
In support of Is This Thing Cursed?‘s release, the band announced plans to hit the road in during the months of August and October. The August leg of their tour kicked off last Friday (Aug. 3) at The Bomb Factory. The August leg of the tour will conclude on Aug. 26 at the House of Blues in Orlando, just a few days shy of the band’s record release date.
Following a month and a half off during which time frontman Matt Skiba will rejoin Blink-182 is Las Vegas, the band will continue their touring itinerary with the October leg of the tour. That portion of the excursion will begin on Oct. 04 at The Observatory in Santa Ana, California and conclude a few weeks later on Oct. 18 at The Catalyst in Santa Cruz, California.

Back in mid June, Alkaline Trio announced plans to hit the road during the months of August and October making some wonder if this meant new tunes from the group was on the horizon. On Thursday (July 19), the California-founded band confirmed the release of their ninth studio album. Titled Is This Thing Cursed?, the impending release is due out Aug. 31 through Epitaph Records.
Pre-orders for the new album are currently available on the band’s website here.
In conjunction with the new album announcement, the band also released the record’s lead single, “Blackbird.” Listen to the three-and-a-half-minute song above.
Is This Thing Cursed? is the follow-up to 2013’s My Shame is True.
News of the new album comes months after bassist Dan Andriano hinted at new music in an interview. During the chat that took place in January of this year, the musician teased that the group was not done making new music.
“There’s not an inch of me that feels like we’re done making music, or we’re done making new stuff.” he explains. “I wanna be a band that people want to hear new stuff from. Because I feel like I’m still in a band that wants to write good, new music.”
In addition to the new album and its single, the band previously announced plans to hit the road during the months of August and October. The upcoming excursion will be split into two legs; the first leg will take place in August while the second will take place in October. The first leg of the tour will kick off on Aug. 3 at the Bomb Factory in Dallas and wrap up on Aug. 26 at the House of Blues in Orlando.
After a month or so away from the North American touring circuit, Alkaline Trio will resume their trek on Oct. 04 at the Observatory in Santa Ana, California. The trek will then conclude a few weeks later on Oct. 18 at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz, California. Garage rock outfit PANGEA will open for Alkaline Trio during the full tour.

Music festival season is slowly approaching and it seems like every other day we’re getting lineup announcement or new music festival revelations. Now, we’ve gotten word that California will be getting a brand new music festival set to take this spring. On Tuesday (Feb. 7), the inaugural When We Were Young Music Festival was announced.
In addition to the inception announcement, the festival also unveiled its lineup which seems to be offering something that most 20-somethings want; nostalgia. The inaugural lineup features some of the biggest names in the emo game including the likes of AFI, the Descendents, Taking Back Sunday, Alkaline Trio, The Get Up Kids, Pinback, and Saves the Day. Headlining the weekend-long event will be the king of emo, Morrissey.
Cage the Elephant, Silversun Pickups, Streetlight Manifesto, FIDLAR, Foxygen, Joyce Manor, Set Your Goals, and a slew more are set to head to California in early April. When We Were Young is set to take place during the weekend of April 8-9 at the Observatory Grounds in Orange County, California. Tickets for the event are set to go on sale beginning this Friday, Feb. 10. For more information about the music festival or tickets, head on over to the festival’s website here while the full lineup of artists can be seen below.
After revealing the line-up for the two other “spin-off” festivals the original made way for, how exactly do you follow that up?
By revealing the completely awesome line-up the original festival is going to have.
After giving fans the list of artists slated to make their way to Denver and/or Toronto (while also keeping some names secret), Riot Fest have released the names of those who will be taking a trip to the birthplace of the festival at their new stomping ground, Douglas Park, Chicago during the weekend of Sept. 11-13.
Much like the others, Riot Fest Chicago will feature performances from Tenacious D, Iggy Pop, Motörhead, Alexisonfire, Alkaline Trio, and many more.
What makes this line-up so different (at least for now) are the artists that will be performing their full albums during their sets(kind of like last year).
Snoop Dogg will perform Doggystyle, Ice Cube & Guests will perform Straight Outta Compton, Rancid will perform … And Out Come The Wolves, The Dwarves will perform Blood Guts and Pussy, while hometown boys The Academy is…will reunite after four years to perform Almost Here.
Hot on the heels of the Riot Fest Toronto line-up unveiling, festival organizers have now followed up with the list of performers for Riot Fest and Rodeo (formerly known as Riot Fest Denver) which will take place during the weekend of Aug. 28-30 at the National Western Complex in Denver.
Check out the list which includes Modest Mouse, Snoop Dogg, Tenacious D, The Pixies, Thrice, Alkaline Trio, and many, many more. Like their Toronto counterpart, a handful of performers have been left off the list, but will be uncovered on a later date.
Could a new Blink-182 album be coming our way sooner than we thought?
Maybe.
During an interview with Alternative Nation, Alkaline Trio frontman and current guitar fill-in for Blink, Matt Skiba had been asked about the possibility of him joining the band permanently and even recording a new album with them.
“It’s something I would be very excited to do and I’ve known the Blink guys for about 15 years and we’ve become good friends,” said Skiba.
“Playing songs I haven’t written with Mark [Hoppus] and Travis [Barker] is a blast, so to go in and create music with them would be amazing.”
Skiba joined the pop-punk band a few month ago after inner band turmoil reached an all time high with founding member Tom DeLonge leaving or being kicked out, depending on which story you believe, of the band.
Since DeLonge’s departure, Skiba has been filling in for all the gigs the band had previously schedule. But don’ think this is the end of Alkaline Trio. The band is slated to tour the country this Spring beginning today (April 24) at the Summit Music Hall in Denver.
Skiba’s sentiments about joining and recording an album with the remaining members of Blink-182 mirror those of drummer Travis Barker who said in an interview, “If we did make an album with Skiba, it would be unreal.”
Don’t count on there being a Blink-182 reunion any time soon because just when we though the whole drama had taken a slight time off, drummer Travis Barker has once again taken a stance against former singer, Tom DeLonge.
While participating in an interview for Alternative Nation, the drummer had some choice words for DeLonge, including telling him that he should “man up and quit the band” and even revealing that this wasn’t the first nor the second time he went incognito to avoid the band after major plans had been made.
“I think this is the third time he’s quit without anyone knowing about it because we didn’t announce the other times. But this is just the last straw. It’s just not cool for the fans. He’d always agree to go on huge tours and record albums, but when it came down to going into the studio, he’d find some excuse not to. And we wouldn’t even hear from him, it would be his management. It comes to a point where you decide you’re not going to force anyone to do anything they don’t want to do and it’s time to move on.”
And about that manning up and quitting the band?
“I think the right thing for him to do would just man up and quit the band instead of telling people he didn’t quit and just be real with the fans.”
While Barker does say that there’s no bad blood, at least for him, he does challenge DeLonge’s passion for playing the kind of music that helped launch Blink-182 to the status that they have now.
“I love playing, listening, and everything about punk rock. It changed my life. I think for Tom, he doesn’t like punk music and it was a phase for him.”
But Barker doesn’t stop there. In a last dig against his former bandmate, he claims that DeLonge never actually played on any of Blink’s songs.
“We are two weeks in to practice and he’s [Matt Skiba] killing it. There’s harmonies that have never been sung. He’s actually playing the guitar instead of just Pro Tools. It’s just fresh blood and having someone that’s motivated and stoked to be there makes a world of difference. In general, Skiba has a really charming voice and it couldn’t be a better fit.”
Alkaline Trio have been quiet for sometime now, except for their appearances at Riot Fest earlier this year, so how else would you return to the forefront of fans’ minds than with a big and really cool announcement.
Today, the Illinois-based band announced that they will be going out on a very short tour where they will play all eight of their albums over a four night span, in eight different cities.
Confused? Well, don’t be.
Alkaline Trio will spend four days in one city where each night they will perform two of their albums in full.
If you’re still confused about it, just check out the flyer for the event below which also displays the cities they will be performing at as well as the dates.
Alkaline Trio’s most recent release was actually a twofer. The band released two albums on the same day in 2012; one titled My Shame is True and another, an EP, titled Broken Wing.
Skate and Surf recently announced that the festival would be returning to their home turf of Asbury Park, New Jersey, but with happy news, came some sad news.
Some of the artists that had been previous announced for the line-up were taken off of the schedule due to scheduling conflicts. After the sad news had been made, festival organizers have re-released the updated version of the daily schedule for the two day-festival.
The new, major additions include New Found Glory, Alkaline Trio and many more which can be seen in the flyer below. We have also added the original flyer from the festival alongside the updated one so the difference can be seen.
