The 1975 unveil ‘I Like America & America Likes Me’ lyric video, additional tour dates

Unanimously, the 1975’s recently released record was one of the best albums of 2018, but it doesn’t look like the group is going to leave the new set of tunes in the past. On Friday (Jan. 18), the United Kingdom-founded band unleashed the lyric video for their latest single, “I Like America & America Likes Me.”

Watch the video for the three-and-a-half-minute-long song above.

“I Like America & America Likes Me” is featured on the 1975’s recently released record, A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships. To date, the band has released music videos for several tracks including “Give Yourself a Try,” “TooTimeTooTimeTooTime,” “Love If We Made It,” “Sincerity is Scary,” and “It’s Not Living if It’s Not With You.”

A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships is the band’s much-anticipated follow-up to 2016’s smash album, I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful yet So Unaware of It. The record, the band’s third studio album, peaked at the number four spot on the Billboard 200 chart late last year.

In addition to the lyric video for the new single, the four-piece also announced the addition of several new tour stops for their upcoming North American excursion. The upcoming springtime jaunt will now begin with a three-night engagement at Vive Latino in Mexico City, Mexico. The new dates also include stops in Santa Barbara, San Francisco, Milwaukee, and Richmond.

Fellow Dirty Hits label mates Pale Waves and No Rome will join the 1975 on the newly added dates. Pale Waves released their debut album My Mind Makes Noises back in September while No Rome released his RIP Indo Hisashi EP in August.

As if the lyric video and new tour dates weren’t enough, the quartet revealed they were added to the list of performers for this year’s the BRIT Awards. The guys join Little Mix, George Ezra, and Jorja Smith as performers at this year’s festivities.

The group is nominated for several awards this year including “Best British Group” and “Mastercard Best British Album” for A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships. The award show will take place on Feb. 20 at the iconic O2 Arena in London.

Listen: The 1975 drop ‘It’s Not Living (If It’s Not With You)’

A few days after unveiling the lyrics to another new song off their forthcoming record, the 1975 have dropped the audio for the tune. On Thursday (Oct. 18), the United Kingdom-founded group unleashed “It’s Not Living (If It’s Not with You).” The song, the band’s fifth release from A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships, made its worldwide debut on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 where the host spoke to frontman Matt Healy about it.

During the interaction, the host asked the singer to tell her a little bit about the new song. According to Healy, “It’s Not Living (If It’s Not with You)” may be one of the band’s most “1975-iest” tracks since their 2013 self-titled debut.

“I think it’s the 1975-iest 1975 song since the 1975 debut record,” Healy explains to the host.

“So it’s very, it’s got all of that. I don’t know. It’s been so weird putting out singles off this record because there’s so much going on in it and I don’t really know what to put out first, but this has got a lot of our identity in it and I don’t know. It kind of takes me back a little bit, but it’s still quite forward thinking.”

Listen to the new song above.

“It’s Not Living (If It’s Not With You)” will join previously released tracks  “Give Yourself A Try,” “TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME,” “Sincerity is Scary,” and  “Love It If We Made It” on the 1975’s upcoming new album. A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships is due out Nov. 30 through Dirty Hit Records. Pre-orders for the album are available on the 1975’s website.

The audio of the song comes a few days after the 1975 posted the song’s lyrics on social media and confirmed that the full song would come along before the week’s end.

Earlier this week, the 1975 released the official music video for their current single, “Love It If We Made It.”

As if the music video’s release wasn’t enough, the group formally announced their North American tour itinerary. The excursion will begin on April 15 at the Comerica Theatre in Phoenix and conclude several months later on June 3 at the Budweiser Stage in Toronto.

Fan pre-sale are currently available for those who pre-ordered the group’s forthcoming record. General ticket sales will begin next Friday, Oct. 26, at 10 a.m. local time.

Fellow label mates Pale Waves and No Rome will join the band on their headlining jaunt. Pale Waves released their debut album My Mind Makes Noises back in September while No Rome released his RIP Indo Hisashi EP in August.

Listen: The 1975 drop ‘Sincerity is Scary’

A few days after finally confirming the release date and track listing for their much-anticipated third studio album, the 1975 have treated fans to yet another new song from the upcoming record. On Thursday (Sept. 13), the British band headed over to Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show where they premiered the fourth single off A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships.

While speaking to the DJ during the song’s worldwide debut, frontman Matty Healy revealed some information about the new song and the album as a whole.

“‘Sincerity is Scary’ is about me trying to denounce all of that postmodern fear of like being real. You know? Like, ‘Irony first. Make sure you’re ironic because then you can’t be judged on being a person,'” explains the musician.

“[and] I’ve become so aware of the shtick that exists within my kind of lyrical narrative as well because I obviously love everything I’ve done previously, but now as I get older, I see these kind of defense mechanism whether they be like jokes or being slightly sardonic or like here’s the big emotional bit of the song, but I’m not going to be really emotional. All those kind of things…and I think, this record is slightly more…it’s a bit more open and a bit easier and genuinely sincere.”

Listen to “Sincerity is Scary” above.

“Sincerity is Scary” will join previously released singles “Give Yourself a Try,” “Love If We Made It,” and “TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME” on the band’s forthcoming new record. Originally set for an October release date, the 1975 surprised fans earlier this week by pushing its release time frame to late November (Nov. 30 to be specific).

A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships will be released through the band’s home of Dirty Hits.

As previously unveiled by the band, A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships is not the only new record the 1975 have under their sleeves. Back in June, the quartet announced plans to release their fourth studio album in 2019. Notes on a Conditional Form will reportedly see a release time frame of early 2019, though some publications are speculating that the album will see a May 2019 release.

Listen: The 1975 premiere ‘TooTimeTooTimeTooTime’

After a lot of online teasing over the course of the last couple of days, The 1975 have finally unleashed their latest single. On Wednesday (Aug. 15), the British band debuted “TooTimeTooTimeTooTime”; the third single off their long-awaited third album. The song made its worldwide debut on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show where it was also chosen as the “Hottest Record in the World.” In addition to the song’s exclusive premiere, fill-in host Phil Taggart spoke with frontman Matty Healy who gave the DJ some insight about the new track.

“This song is about, you know, fun and relationships and life and…this is the one 1975 I like listening to when I go out for a run,” Healy admits to Taggart.

When pressed by Taggart about whether he thinks this may be the band’s biggest song, Healy admits that he doesn’t really care as long as the fans like it.

“I don’t really know what constitutes a hit. I just know this is the song that I objectively listen to not necessarily as a ’75 song,” the singer explains.

“It’s just something that kind of makes me really happy and the video makes me the happiest. That’s my only metric as to why I would think it would be kind of…I don’t really care if it’s a hit. I just want the fans to hear it. ”

“TooTimeTooTimeTooTime” can be streamed above while Healy’s complete interview can be heard here.

“TooTimeTooTimeTooTime” will join previously released tracks “Love It If We Made It” and “Give Yourself a Try” on A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships; the first of two upcoming albums from the band.

A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships is due out some time in October while Notes On A Conditional Form —the second album— will reportedly see a release time frame of early 2019. Both records will be released through the group’s longtime home of Dirty Hits / Interscope Records.

A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships will be the direct follow-up to the band’s hit 2016 record, I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it.

The 1975’s manager discusses band’s upcoming double release

The 1975 surprised fans last month when they announced plans to release not one, but two new studio albums between now and early 2019. While their longtime followers were grateful for the announcement, it makes some wonder how this decision was reached. During a recent interview with Music Week, Jamie Oborne —the band’s longtime manager— discussed how the decision to release two albums was accomplished.

“We’re doing things a little bit differently in this campaign,” Oborne begins. “Very early on, Matthew [Healy, frontman] noted that the promotional window on music is shorter than ever, and the time that people consume it is infinite. He felt very strongly that, if we have a tour cycle that’s going to last 18 months to two years, we have to release two records in the time that we would have previously have released one.”

Prior to the announcement, which came after months of cryptic teasing from the band, the group’s fans were just happy to finally get some new music. The fact that the four-piece decided to given them some extra new tunes was just an added bonus.

The two-album release comes more than a year after Healy unveiled the name and potential time frame for the new LP. During an interview in April of 2017 with Zane Lowe on his Beats 1 show, he told the DJ: “The next record’s called Music for Cars. That’s the title and it references our second EP or our third EP.”

While the original title for the forthcoming album was supposed to be Music for Cars, Healy decided to give the monkier to the band’s new era. The quartet’s third studio album will be titled A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships while their fourth studio album will be titled Note on a Conditional Form.

According to Oborne, the 1975 will release a new song a month leading up to the release of A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships. The impending release is slated to be debut some time during the fourth quarter of this year. The third studio album’s release will coincide with the group’s live return in January. While A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships should be released some time this year, Note on a Conditional Form will reportedly see a release time frame of spring 2019. Both albums will be released via Dirty Hit in conjunction with Polydor.
