What to Watch on New Years Eve

fireworks

Tonight at 12:01, we say goodbye to the year that was 2013 and hello to the blank page that is 2014.

While some of your friends and family might be hitting the party circuit to bring in the new year, some of us are going to take our annual spot on the couch and watch the ball drop on our televisions.

Since we’ll be staying in, take a look at some of the live events that will be playing on the telly with music, of course to bring in the new year.

NBC: New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly (From Time Square in New York)

This will mark the ninth time tat Daly has held down the fort as the host of the event. Co-hosted b Glee’s Jane Lynch and performances by Mariah Carey and Blake Shelton. Also making appearances at the event will be actor-comedians, Natasha Leggero and Anthony Anderson. After a half an hour break for the local news, the party continues with Daly and Lynch.

ABC: Dick Clark’s Primetime New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest 2014 (from Time Square in New York)

Taking over for the dearly departed Dick Clark, Ryan Seacrest will once again host the iconic countdown. This year, The View’s Jenny McCarthy is back to co-host the event. Performances include Jennifer Hudson, Miley Cyrus, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Icona Pop, Robin Thicke and more. After a half an hour break for the local news, the party continues with Billy Joel singing us into 2014.

FOX: New Year’s Eve Live (from the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada)

Unlike its many counterparts, Mario Lopez will host his way into 2014 in the shortest of the celebrations; just one hours. In that one hour though, the show will include performance from J. Cole, New Politics, Krewella and Panic! At the Disco.

CNN: New Year’s Eve With Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin

If sexual innuendos and laughing at crude things is your cup of tea, Kathy Griffin is back co-hosting with Anderson Cooper for the seventh year. While every year seems to out do the other in trying to embarrass our favorite Silver Fox, Cooper has definitely learned to deal with Griffin and her antic. But, it’s still fun to see her try.

Listen to the First Mash-Up of 2013’s Hit Songs

2013

UPDATE: One of my favorite mash-up artists, Daniel Kim has recently released his Pop Danthology which features 68 hit songs including “Blurred Lines” and “What Does the Fox Say?”

Since now we have two mash-ups to help summarize the state of music in 2013, which is your favorite?

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————–

You know that it’s almost the end of the year when mash-ups of all the hit songs of the year start making their rounds on the internet. Thanks to San Francisco’s DJ Earworm, we have the first mash-up of 2013’s hits. The DJ took 25 of the most played and probably on your last nerve songs and combined them together to give us a five-minute look (or sound) at the state of music in 2013.

Check out the video below and lets start the countdown for 2014.

Most of her earning could be attributed to her MDNA tour while come could be from her retail line at Macy’s Material Girl. The Teen Choice Awards maybe marketed toward teenagers, but it doesn’t mean that the rest of us are excluded from watching the show, especially when many of our guilty pleasure were nominated for several awards. Taking the job as hosts for the evening were Pretty Little Liars‘ Lucy Hale and Glee’s Darren Criss.

It was a slam dunk of a night for Hale’s show Pretty Little Liars; the cast and some key characters took home a total of seven awards including Choice TV Show: Drama! and Choice TV Villain. One Direction led the pack of winners in the musical categories with four wins including Choice Summer Tour and Choice Music Group; Selena Gomez was right behind them with three wins.

While the awards were a big portion of the show, we could not stay away from all the performances which this year included new comers, Florida Georgia Line performing their hit Summer song, “Cruise'” featuring their friend Nelly. One Direction made Directioners happy with their performance of “Best Song Ever” while Paramore took the stage with ballerinas, balloons and confetti for a performance of their new single, “Still into You.”

Virgin Mobile FreeFest 2013 Line-Up

Freefest_2013_date_announcement

The Virgin Mobile FreeFest is back and this year the list of performers includes Vampire Weekend, MGMT, Robin Thicke, CHVRCHES, and Washed Out. The one-day event is scheduled to take place on September 21 at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland.

But just when you think that the performers that were already confirmed was enough, they jut added a couple of more to the list. The Avett Brothers, Icona Pop, Sky Ferreira, Pretty Lights, Kaskade, City and Colour, Madeon, Ghost Beach, Black Joe Lewis, Gareth Emery, Little Green Cars, Manufactured Superstars, the Knocks, TJR, and Congorock will be rounding out the line-up.

Like the name says, the concert will be free and available for the public starting on Friday, August 9 at noon EST through Ticketfly. For those people who are customers of Virgin Mobile, they will be allowed to get their tickets an entire day early (Thursday, August 8) as well as prior Virgin Mobile Festival ticket buyers, Virgin Mobile Facebook friends and Twitter followers.

I think it might be time to become friends with Virgin Mobile on Facebook and Twitter, eh?

As for those who want more, there will be some FreeFest “Freemium” packages which will include a FreeFest t-shirt, and a souvenir cup that comes with free fountain drinks throughout the event. For those not familiar with the event’s mission, Virgin Mobile Free Fest is on the mission to end youth homelessness and by taking $10 from every “Freemium” package, it will be donated to their charity.

Thanks to the money raised during Free Fest 2011 and 2012, they were able to establish The Sasha Bruce Re* Generation House, a transitional living facility for homeless youth in Washington, D.C. In what could be a great tribute to the charity and its goals, many of the youths that stay in the facility were featured in the announcement video released; the video can be seen below.

What’s better than going to a great show and also contributing to a great cause, so if you can, do it.

Arctic Monkeys Release B-Side

arcticmonkeys

A few weeks back, we got the Arctic Monkeys’ video for “Do I Wanna Know?” and up to then, speculation started to surround whether or not the band would be releasing a new album sometime soon.

Sure enough, the band announced that they would be releasing a brand new album titled AM on September 10 through Domino Records. Today, the band have released the B-side to “Do I Wanna Know?,”  “2013.” The song, will not appear on the new release which means that it’s time to take advantage and listen to the song on repeat.

Tell us what you think of the song? Should it have been included on AM?

Sound and Fury Festival: Cancelled

sf

Sad news for those who were anxiously awaiting the right annual Sound and Fury Festival. Turns out that the California-based, weekend long music festival has been cancelled. Organizers released the following statement about the cancellation and ticket refunds:

“It’s over.

We are sorry to bring you this unfortunate news but the 2013 edition of the Sound and Fury festival is cancelled.

We apologize to everyone from the bottom of our hearts for having to do this, but it was unavoidable.

In order to quell speculation, you will hear the absolute truth from us.  Due to unforeseen circumstances and the massive financial risk it takes to run a festival, we have to cancel this year.

We are just two people, running a festival that brings in over 60 bands and 1,800 kids to Santa Barbara every year. The amount of logistics and headaches this encompasses one can only imagine, needless to say from March to July our lives don’t feel our own.

This year, we put together what we thought was an amazing lineup with amazing sponsors that all spread the word of the festival far and wide. We as organizers have to weigh the pro’s and con’s of doing a festival and not losing tens of thousands of dollars in the process.

Plain and simple, we couldn’t take that risk this year.

To all of the bands, sponsors, friends, co-workers and attendees, we are very sorry.

Tickets will be fully refunded at the point of purchase (No Sleep Records) and should be completed by weeks end. If you bought a ticket, you will get your refund but be patient as we are sorting out the best way to get that to you.”

lolla2

In what might be considered one of the most anti-climatic reveal of this year, the Lollapalooza line up has been revealed. The good news for all that saw the leaked photo (which was uploaded here this past weekend), everyone on that list was spot on correct.

Lollapalooza 2013 will included 130 acts including those that had been revealed last month by a festival ‘insider’ who let it slip to The Chicago Tribune that The Killers, Vampire Weekend, Phoenix, Mumford & Sons, The Cure and New Order. Now those acts will be accompanied by  Tegan & Sara, Crystal Castles, Azealia Banks, Beach House, 2 Chainz, Eric Church, Cat Power, Death Grips, Knife Party, Jessie Ware, Major Lazer, Wild Nothing, Ellie Goulding, Angel Haze, Lana Del Rey, Wavves, Steve Angello, Haim, Baroness, Father John Misty, DIIV, Thievery Corporation, Flux Pavilion, Band of Horses, the Lumineers, Hot Chip, Local Natives, Two Door Cinema Club, Dada Life, Imagine Dragons, Frightened Rabbit, Matt & Kim, and many, many more.

Lollapalooza will take place in Chicago from August 2-4 at Chicago’s Grant Park. Last week, super secret special tickets were on special, but sold out in record time just like the 3-day passes.
