Watch: New ‘Captain Marvel’ trailer touches on Skrulls, teases the Avengers Initiative

A month after giving fans the second official trailer for the forthcoming “Captain Marvel” film, Disney has unleashed yet another new look at the upcoming flick. On Monday (Jan. 7), the House of Mouse released a new “special look” at the highly anticipated new movie during Monday’s college football National Championship on ESPN.

The minute-and-a-half clip begins with Nick Fury telling Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel that grunge is a good look for her prompting her to respond just as sarcastically by asking if he had a rough day at work. As their conversation in a deserted bar picks up, Fury asks Carol for more information about this supposed space invasion. She answers by telling him a bit about the Skrulls and how they are shapeshifters just like the old lady she knocked out in the first look we got back in September.

Fury, a little (or very) apprehensive, asks Carol to prove that she’s not a Skrull. Of course that results in the poor unsuspecting record player getting blown up thanks to her photon blast. The new teaser also gives Jude Law’s character a bigger presence in the clip, even though it’s just him training Carol to be a Kree warrior. While Disney and Marvel have yet to confirm the identity of Law’s character, fans have been speculating for some time that he will play Captain Mar-Vell. At one point there was confirmation, but Disney withdrew it quickly after.

If that wasn’t enough information in a one-minute time span, then there might be an Avengers Initiative Easter egg lurking around the one-minute mark. Young Phil Coulson is briefly shown with his voice asking Fury “You think you can find others?” Fury responds with “She’s just the beginning.”

Watch the full trailer above.

“Captain Marvel” flies into theaters on March 8, 2019. Tickets are currently available on Fandango.

Catsbury Park 2019.jpg

On Tuesday (Dec. 11), the second annual Catsbury Park Cat Convention was announced. Set to take place during the weekend of April 13-14 in Asbury Park, New Jersey, the upcoming event will be bigger and better than the inaugural shindig. Featuring celebrity cats, adoptable felines, DJs, games, activities, art, vendors, presentations, seminars, comedians, tattoos, tasty vegetarian food, and more, the cat-centric event will have a little bit of everything for your friendly neighborhood kitty lover.

Headlining the two-day event will be internet famous kitty Lil Bub and Kitty Lady herself, Hannah Shaw. Joining Shaw and Lil Bub at the convention will be Klaus, Paul the Cat Guy, Sir Thomas Trueheart, Cat Man of West Oakland, Stache, and more.

As with the first annual gathering, the CPCC’s goal is to “find forever homes for our lovely feline friends as well as host seminars about rescue, kitten care, TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return), and more.” This year’s expanded space will allow for more attendees to interact with cats who are available for adoption.

Tickets for the event will include entry into most Catsbury Park-branded panels, discussions, and events. For some special events, an additional ticket will be required.

The inaugural Catsbury Park Cat Convention took place in April of this year and drew over 5,000 attendees from all over the country. Listen: AFI drop latest single ‘Trash Bat’

It’s been a little over month since AFI announced plan to release a new EP in December, and now, they’re giving fans another track from the forthcoming release. On Friday (Nov. 30), the California-founded band unleashed the upcoming album’s second single, “Trash Bat.”

“This was the ideal song to kick off the EP,” admits guitarist and the record’s producer Jade Puget about the new track. “From Adam [Carson]’s big drum fill at the top all the way through to the end, it’s just a quick burst of frenetic energy. I brought the song in and was playing it for Davey and he threw out the line, ‘my Trash Bat’ and I thought, how can you lose with a title like that? What is a Trash Bat anyway? Who cares!”

Listen to “Trash Bat” above.

“Trash Bat” will join previously released track “Get Dark” on AFI’s upcoming new EP, The Missing Man. The five-song studio effort is due out next Friday, Dec. 7, through Rise Records / WMG. Pre-orders for the forthcoming record are currently available on the band’s website. Each pre-order comes with an instant download of both “Trash Bat” and “Get Dark.”

In support of the album’s December release date, AFI announced two intimate shows; a gig at Ace of Spades in Sacramento on Dec. 9 and a show at the Observatory in San Diego on Dec. 10. Prior to their previously announced shows, the quartet will perform at KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas on Saturday, Dec. 8.

The Missing Man is the follow-up to the four-piece’s 2017 release, AFI (aka The Blood Album). The Blood Album, the band’s tenth studio album, hit the number one spot on Billboard‘s Alternative and Hard Rock Albums charts and the number five spot on the Billboard 200 chart.

Pharrell Williams, David Guetta, Los Unidades lead ‘Global Citizen’ EP

Pharrell Williams, David Guetta, Los Unidades, and African musician WIZKID are some of the artists to be featured on the upcoming Global Citizen EP 1 album. On Tuesday (Nov. 27), international advocacy organization Global Citizen announced plans to release a four-song record at the end of the week. Due out this Friday (Nov. 30), the EP will be released in partnership with United States-founded Atlantic Records and United Kingdom-based Parlophone.

Proceeds from the forthcoming release will go directly to Global Citizen’s campaigns and advocacy efforts to end extreme poverty as well as assist in areas such as gender equality, education, water, and sanitation.

Global Citizen’s veer into the music world is not at all surprising since the project is headed by Coldplay’s Chris Martin who also curates Global Citizen’s annual live music festival.

“For hundreds of years, we have witnessed the power of music in bringing people together to drive activism and demand change,” said Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evans.

“We are thrilled to release Global Citizen EP 1 with new songs from these incredible artists who stand with us in the fight to defeat extreme poverty, and we are extremely grateful to Dave Holmes, Parlophone Records and Atlantic Records for their dedicated partnership and support as we demand to see an end to extreme poverty by 2030.”

Coldplay manager Dave Holmes adds: “It was a real honor to help further the Global Citizen movement by putting together this release alongside Chris and Parlophone. We’ve ended up with so many incredible performers, and we’re all extremely proud of the finished EP. May it be the first of many.”

The EP will arrive a few days before this year’s Global Citizen Festival set to take place on Sunday, Dec. 2 in Johannesburg, South Africa. This year, the festival will honor the legacy of Nelson Mandela. Martin, Williams, WIZKID, Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Cassper Nyovest, D’banj, Ed Sheeran, Eddie Vedder, Femi Kuti, , Sho Madjozi, Tiwa Savage, and Usher will all perform at this year’s event.

Watch Dashboard Confessional’s artistic video for ‘We Fight’

Several weeks after unleashing the first single off their upcoming seventh studio album, Dashboard Confessional has returned with the official music video for the new tune. On Wednesday (Dec. 20), the Florida-founded band unveiled an art-centric music video for their new song, “We Fight.” The almost four-minute-long clip begins simply with pair of hands holding a paint brush and spelling out “we fight” and “Dashboard Confessional” in navy watercolor on white paper. Throughout the clip, the illustrations shift between line drawings of different people going through different walks of life and a watercolor version of Dashboard frontman Chris Carrabba.

During the clip, the viewer watches as those line-drawn people eventually come into their own and begin to stand up for what they believe as they raise their fists in the air. As if the image of everyday people standing up for what they believe in isn’t a big enough message, the viewer also gets a special treat when drawings of historical figures like Martin Luther King Jr., John Lennon, Muhammad Ali, and Mother Teresa appear on the screen around the two-and-a-half minute mark. Watch the music video for “We Fight” above.

“We Fight” will join recently released single, “Belong” on Dashboard Confessional’s upcoming new album, Crooked Shadows. Crooked Shadows is set to be released on Feb. 19 through Fueled By Ramen. Pre-orders  for the new album are currently available on the band’s website here. Crooked Shadows is the long-awaited follow-up to Dashboard Confessional’s 2009 release, Alter the Ending.

In support of the new album’s release, Dashboard will hit the road in the spring with Beach Slang for the “We Fight” tour. The “We Fight” tour will kick off on March 20 at the House of Blues in Houston and conclude a month later on April 21 at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles. The complete list of tour dates can be found here.

Watch Paramore get fake smiley in ‘Fake Happy’

After releasing two hugely successful music videos for their After Laughter single, Paramore is ready to add another one to the list. On Friday (Nov. 17), the Tennessee-founded band unleashed their music video for “Fake Happy.” The almost-four-minute clip begins with frontwoman Hayley Williams standing in the middle of an alleyway. The viewer watches as she seems to be collecting and relaxing herself as the somber beginning of the song plays.

About 40 seconds in, the scenery changes with Williams sitting on a tossed chair, dressed in a multi-colored sequin jumpsuit in the middle of New York City. She gets up from the seat and begins to dance around the city trying bring smiles to the face of everyone around her. Sadly, everyone around her is sporting a fake, yellow happy face over their own.

Throughout the clip, Williams’ face is not shown, but things change when she ends up in Time Square. The camera finally captures her face which is plastered with the biggest, fakest smile and tears running down her face. Watch the Zac Farro-directed music video for “Fake Happy” above.

“Fake Happy” is featured on Paramore’s recently released record, After Laughter. After Laughter was released in May of 2017 and quickly earned not only praises, but also top spots on many music charts. After Laughter went on to earn the top spot on both Billboard‘s Top Rock Albums chart and Billboard‘s Alternative albums chart. The record reached the number six spot on SoundScan/Billboard‘s 200 chart.

Watch All Time Low honor their roots with ‘Nice2KnoU’

With two weeks until the release of their seventh studio album, All Time Low has treated fans to a fourth song off the impending release. On Friday (May 19), just a few hours after premiering the audio for the new single, the Baltimore-based band debuted the official music video for “Nice2KnoU.” The music video begins with a pay phone ringing and one of the guys, specifically bassist Zack Merrick, picking up the line. As he places the receiver to his ear, the viewer is transported to what appears to be a club with the four-piece performing the new tune.

The three-and-a-half minute clip continues with ever-changing footage of them performing in the club and exploring their hometown of Baltimore. During the stroll down memory lane, they visit several locations that helped shape them and pay tribute to them by leaving roses at each location. They stop at the Ottobar, where they claim to have played a million times; Pier Six Pavilion, which they headlined in 2015; Sidebar Tavern where they claim they played to no one in 2005 (quite surprising now); and Thames Street which they make a direct reference to in “Six Feet Under the Stars” on 2007’s So Wrong, It’s Right.

In a post on Facebook that accompanied the video, the group explains that it’s a love letter to the places and people who helped them get to where they are today.

“This one’s for the dance halls, the dive bars and the 100 kids we used to play for at the Ottobar every other weekend,” begins the band’s post.

“It’s a tribute to our roots and the history of a band that comes up in a small-town with a die-hard group of friends who all want something greater. It’s an ode to the late nights, filling up the van with half a tank of gas so we could leave for the next show before someone got jumped in the wrong part of town– Getting into Tampa at 3 a.m. and crashing on someone’s floor, saying thanks with a 30 of Coors Light and never seeing that face again. This is a dedication to all the places we’ve been that made us who we are today, the sea of sweaty hands that raised us up in low-lit clubs across America on our first tours, and all the people we owe these stories to; Nice to know you, see you ‘round.”

Watch the music video for “Nice2KnoU” above.

“Nice2KnoU” will join “Life of the Party,” “Dirty Laundry,” and “Last Young Renegade” on the band’s upcoming album. Last Young Renegade is set to hit stores on June 2 and will mark the band’s first release through Fueled by Ramen.

In support of Last Young Renegades, All Time Low will hit the road for a massive summer tour. The ‘North American Young Renegades’ tour will kick off at the House of Blues in Houston on June 30 and wrap up a month and a half later on Aug. 6 at the House of Blues in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. SWMRS, Waterparks, The Wrecks, and Night Riots will open during the excursion. The complete list of tour dates can be seen here.

Silverstein announces ‘Dead Reflection,’ drops new music video

Just in time for their seventh time on the Vans Warped Tour, Silverstein has announced a brand new album. On Thursday (May 18), the Canadian band announced that their upcoming ninth studio album will be titled Dead Reflection and will see a mid-July release. The new album, their first since 2015’s I Am Alive in Everything I Touch, will be released on July 14 through Rise Records. Pre-orders for the new album are currently available here.

In addition to the new record confirmation, the band has also released the music video for the album’s lead single, “Retrograde.” The over-three-minute clip is simple; the group is performing in what can be assumed to be either a studio or warehouse. As frontman Shane Told shifts between screaming the lyrics and the clean vocals, the lights change color (a yellowish-brown for the screams and blue with hints of white for the clean vocals). Watch the complete music video for “Retrograde” above.

Dead Reflection‘s announcement comes a couple of days after the band posted a cryptic, 16-second clip online. The footage, at first, features a black background with a pink knot at the center of the screen and the sound of a body of water playing in the back. Midway through the 16 seconds, the image changes and is replaced by a date and time (May 18 at 2 p.m. EST).

Dead Reflection will mark the group’s new set of tunes since I Am Alive in Everything I Touch. Last October, they released a stand-alone single titled “Ghost.” The purpose of the song was to give fans something to hold them over until they were finished with the new album. As seen in the album track list below, the new album will in fact include “Ghost.”

According to a press release from Told, the new album has “the massive sound that fans have come to expect from the band, but being written during a time of pain and frustration has added a new element to the record that hasn’t been present on past releases.”

He added: “This record tells the story of how broken I was, how I found myself on a path of self-destruction, and how I had to fight to get my sanity and happiness back. The year-long journey was not an easy one. I fell down into many dark places, and ultimately I had to fight to resist against so many vices to get back into a positive light.”

The complete 11-track list for Dead Reflection can be seen below while the group’s full summer tour schedule can be found here.

DEAD REFLECTION TRACK LIST:

1. “Last Looks”
2. “Retrograde”

Between the Buried and Me to celebrate ten years of ‘Colors’

Between the Buried and Me is hitting the road this fall to celebrate a momentous occasion for the group. On Tuesday (May 16), the North Carolina-founded band announced plans to go on tour to celebrate the tenth anniversary of their fifth studio album, Colors. The North American trek will kick off on Sept. 7 at Atlanta’s ProgPower USA XVIII music festival and wrap on Oct. 21 at the Neighborhood Theater in the group’s home state of North Carolina.

During the tour, the band will perform the eight-track album in full. Hitting the road alongside Between the Buried and Me will be the Contortionist, Polyphia, and Toothgrinder. The three bands will open for BTBAM on all stops with the exception of the group’s appearance at ProgPower USA XVIII. Tickets for the fall tour will go on sale beginning this Friday, May 19, at 10 a.m. local time.

In a statement about the tour on their website, the band reveals the reason they decided to head out on tour to celebrate this particular album. “Colors was our statement of rebellion. We were challenging how others identified us in the context of heavy metal, and ultimately we were challenging how we identified ourselves,” begins the statement.

“It was some kind of musical manifesto, in which we found new purpose and direction simply by throwing caution to the wind and purging every ounce of creative energy we had, regardless of how unhinged it may have seemed at the time. Ten years have passed and we are lucky enough to be able to play this album from front to back on stage for our amazing fans. See you all soon!”

Colors was released in July of 2007 and sold 12,600 copies in its first week of sale. In addition to that, it reached the number 57 spot on the Billboard 200 chart marking the first time the band reached the top 100 part of the chart.
