The Killers confirm the release date for ‘Imploding the Mirage’ with new single, massive North American tour

Hold on tight to your chairs, guys, because the Killers have a slew of news that just may give you whiplash.

On Thursday (March 12), the Las Vegas-founded band officially confirmed the release date for their sixth studio album. Previously revealed to be titled Imploding the Mirage, the new album is due out May 29 through the band’s longtime home of Island Records.

The new set of tunes was produced by the band alongside Foxygen’s Shawn Everett and Jonathan Rado.

But that’s not all.

The record will also include guest appearances by k.d. lang, Natalie Mering from Weyes Blood, Adam Granduciel from War on Drugs, Lucius, and former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham who happens to play on the album’s lead single, “Caution.”

Yes. You read that right.

The Killers not only confirmed their new album’s release date but have also dropped its lead single, which features a music legend. Listen to “Caution” above.

To coincide with the song’s release, frontman Brandon Flowers and drummer Ronnie Vannucci spoke with Zane Lowe about the inspiration behind the four-and-a-half-minute tune.

“It’s sort of about having the wherewithal to listen to that angel on your shoulder, even if they’re telling you something that you don’t want to hear,” Flowers reveals in the interview.

“And I think for me with this song was a lot about leaving Las Vegas. I was having this sort of hunch or impression that that was something that I was supposed to do for my family. … And so it was tough for me to leave, and I thought I was able to harness that energy, and there was a sort of…a relief when it happened, and you kind of feel that the spirit in ‘Caution,’ I feel like.”

So what is a band to do after confirming a record release date and unveiling its lead single? Well…announce a massive North American tour, of course! So stock up on hand sanitizers and disinfection wipes.

This summer, the Killers will hit the North American touring circuit for their Imploding the Mirage tour. The almost-four-month outing will find the group performing at venues in the United States, Canada, and Mexico (though there’s a quick trip to Australia in between).

Yup. Four months of nonstop shows across the continent.

The Imploding the Mirage North American trek begins on Aug. 18 at the Pepsi Center in Denver. The tour concludes several months later on Dec. 4 at the Estadio 3 de Marzo in Zapopan, Mexico.

Former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr will open for the Killers throughout the forthcoming tour.
