We tend to cringe when it comes to looking back at our old selves, and can you blame us? We’ve done some cringe-worthy things in the past.
But, the guys in 5 Seconds of Summer are taking that in strive and celebrating who they used to be with a brand new song.
On Friday (February 21), the Australian band unleashed another new single from their upcoming fourth studio album. Titled “Old Me,” the new track is a celebration of their former selves who helped make them the people that they are today. The over-three-minute lyric video includes photographs of the four guys as children and teenagers when their crazy musical journey began. (Look at those emo bangs and baby 5 Seconds of Summer!)
“Old me carries a youthful spirit and follows the narrative of a young person’s life growing up, for better or for worse,” frontman Luke Hemmings said in a statement about the new track.
“Every decision we made, whether right or wrong, has led us to the men we are proud to be today. We were thrown into the public eye at a young age, and gratefully had each other at a confusing time. Sometimes it’s important we look back in order to appreciate the journey we’ve been on together.”
“Old Me” is the fourth single off 5 Seconds of Summer’s upcoming fourth studio effort, C.A.L.M. Previously released singles “Easier,” “No Shame,” and our personal favorite “Teeth” are also featured on the forthcoming 12-track album.
Earlier this month, the group released the insanely weird music video for “No Shame” that seriously still has us scratching our heads (we guess that was the point?).
C.A.L.M. is due out March 27. Pre-save and pre-order options are currently live on the band’s website.
In support of the much-anticipated release, the foursome will hit the North American touring circuit in the late summer. The “No Shame” tour will find the quartet performing at venues across the continent in August and September.
The tour begins on August 12 at the Sports Palace in Mexico City and concludes on September 26 at the Concord Pavilion in Concord, California.
The Band Camino will join 5 Seconds of Summer on the upcoming trek.
The full list of tour dates can be found here.
Tickets for the tour are now on sale.
