After a long (and we mean long) break from releasing new music, Pearl Jam is back!
On Monday (Jan. 13), the iconic rock band announced plans to release their 11th studio album later this year (yes, you read that right, 11!). Titled Gigaton, the forthcoming record is due out March 27 through Monkeywrench/Republic Records. Pre-orders for the new album are available for purchase here.
Gigaton’s lead single, “Dance of the Clairvoyants,” will reportedly be released within the next couple of weeks (fingers crossed). No word on when fans should expect the album’s full tracklisting.
Josh Evans and Pearl Jam produced the album.
Gigaton is the follow-up to 2013’s Grammy-Award winning Lightning Bolt.
“Making this record was a long journey,” guitarist Mike McCready said in a statement.
“It was emotionally dark and confusing at times, but also an exciting and experimental road map to musical redemption. Collaborating with my bandmates on Gigaton ultimately gave me greater love, awareness, and knowledge of the need for human connection in these times.”
As if a new set of jams wasn’t enough, Pearl Jam also revealed that they will be taking the tunes on the road for a short, springtime outing. The 16-stop North American trek will find the group performing at venues across the continent throughout March and April to promote the album.
The tour kicks off on March 18 at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto and concludes a month later with a two-night engagement (April 18 and 19) at the Oakland Arena in Oakland. The full list of tour dates can be found below.
Just because Pearl Jam decided to take a lengthy break in between albums doesn’t mean the group has been quiet. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll in 2017, released several concert films (“Let’s Play Two” and “Live at the Garden”), and even surprised fans with a standalone single in 2018 (“Can’t Deny Me”).
