Modest Mouse has returned with their new song. On Friday (March 29), the Washington-founded act released their first new song in four years. Titled “Poison the Well,” the latest track comes a week after the band confirmed plans to debut the new tune at the end of the month.
The group’s new song announcement came shortly after their loyal followers began receiving cryptic puzzle pieces in the mail. Fans were quick to put the pieces together which resulted in the band’s official announcement. The message read: ‘Poison the Well’ will arrive 3.29.”

“Poison the Well” is the band’s first new song since 2015’s Strangers to Ourselves.
In addition to “Poison the Well,” the act also revealed that they will be taking part in this year’s Record Store Day. Their contribution to the annual music lover’s holiday will include a triangular mint-green 7-inch record which will feature “Poison the Well” on the A-side of the record and a previously unreleased track on the B-side.
Record Store Day will take place on April 13.
Modest Mouse made headlines earlier this month when they were announced as the special guest on the Black Keys’ “Let’s Rock” fall tour.
The upcoming excursion begins on Sept. 21 at the Life is Beautiful music festival in Las Vegas and concludes two months later on Nov. 24 at the Pepsi Live at Rogers Arena in Vancouver.
Shannon and the Clams, Repeat Repeat, and Jessy Wilson will open on select dates.
