Fresh off the summertime release of their Kicker EP, the Get Up Kids are ready to give their fans a full studio album this spring. On Thursday (March 7), the Missouri-founded act announced the fast-approaching release of their sixth studio album.
Titled Problems, the upcoming record is due out May 10 through Polyvinyl. Problems —the band’s first new album in eight years— was produced by Peter Katis who previously worked with the act on 2002’s On a Wire. Pre-orders for the record are currently available on the band’s website.
In conjunction with the new album announcement, the band also released the record’s lead single, “Satellite.” According to guitarist/vocalist Matt Pryor, the song was initially inspired by his son, but throughout the writing process, began to morph into a song about himself and his feeling of isolation even when in front of an audience.
“I started writing ‘Satellite’ about my son who’s 14 and a total introvert—not antisocial, he just genuinely likes to keep to himself,” Pryor said in a statement.
“But then somewhere down the line, I started singing about myself—about how even when you’re playing a show to a room full of people, I can still feel anxious and isolated.”

“Satellite” is one of 12 tracks that will be featured on the forthcoming LP.
Problems is the official follow-up to 2011’s There are Rules.
