Vampire Weekend announce massive North American tour

A week after surprising fans with not one, but two new songs, Vampire Weekend have taken it to another level by announcing a massive North American tour. On Wednesday (Jan. 30), the New York-founded band unveiled a lengthy tour itinerary that will find them performing at venues across the continent throughout the months of May, June, July, August, September, and October.

The 35-stop jaunt will include stops in major cities such as St. Louis, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Nashville, Dallas, Miami, Austin, Philadelphia, Montreal, Vancouver, San Francisco, and of course their hometown of New York City. The Father of the Bride tour will begin on June 5 at RBC Echo Beach in Toronto and conclude several months later on Oct. 8 at the Red Rock Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado.

Tickets for the outing go on sale next Friday, Feb. 8, at noon local time.

Vampire Weekend’s upcoming tour schedule also includes several music festivals such as Alabama’s Hangout Music Festival and Delaware’s Firefly Music Festival. In the middle of the tour, the band will make their way to Spain for this year’s edition of the Mad Cool Festival where they’ll perform alongside Bon Iver, the National, the Smashing Pumpkins, and the Cure.

The upcoming tour is in support of Vampire Weekend’s impending fourth studio effort, Father of the Bride. Last week, the act announced the release of their first new studio album in nearly six years by treating fans to two new songs (“Harmony Hall” and “2021”).

According to frontman Ezra Koenig, the group will debut two new songs every month leading to the album’s release.

Though the band has not given the exact release date for the forthcoming record, they have confirmed that it is due out sometime in the spring via Sony Music.

Father of the Bride is the long-awaited follow-up to 2013’s Modern Vampires of the City.
