A few days after gifting fans the fourth track from their forthcoming studio album, Bring Me the Horizon is back with another new song. On Thursday (Jan. 24), the United Kingdom-founded band unleashed their fifth single from their upcoming record, Amo.
Titled “Nihilist Blues,” the five-and-a-half-minute tune features guest vocals from art-pop singer Grimes. As previously promised by the band, the new song is a complete departure from the sound fans have grown to love and appreciate. Gone are the screams and rough-around-the edge sound as the band takes on a more pop/electronic feel with the new tune. Think of it as a more electronically intense version of “Throne” (from 2015’s That’s the Spirit).
During an interview with Zane Lowe on his Apple Music’s Beats 1 radio show, frontman Oli Sykes explains how the band managed to enlist Grimes for the new song.
“I’d seen her [Grimes] in an interview that she did a year or two before that, saying like, ‘Oh, I like English bands like Bring Me the Horizon,'” begins Sykes.
“She got my number off manager after hearing it, text me and she went, ‘I am doing this song. I love it so much.’ And she was like so overwhelmingly positive about the song. She was like, ‘This is one of the greatest songs I’ve ever heard in my life. I’m definitely doing it.’ And she was just so cool about it. She wasn’t at all like the cool kid that she would just like … She’d got all the influences because the song’s quite out there in terms of what it sounds like compared to a Bring Me song.”

“Nihilist Blues” will join previously released tracks “Mother Tongue,” “Medicine,” “Wonderful Life” featuring Cradle of Filth’s Dani Filth, and lead single “MANTRA” on Bring Me the Horizon’s upcoming sixth studio album, Amo. Amo is due out Jan. 25 through Sony. Pre-orders for the new record are still available on the band’s website.
In support of Amo’s release, the five-piece just kicked off the North American leg of their “First Love” tour. The trek will conclude in a few weeks on Feb. 16 at the Joint in Las Vegas. Support for the tour will come in the form of Thrice and the Fever 333.
