Watch: Carly Rae Jepsen brings the party in ‘Party for One’

Carly Rae Jepsen is back with another catchy song for you to put on repeat this season. On Thursday (Nov. 1), the Canadian pop star unleashed her latest single, “Party for One.” In addition to unveiling the Captain Cuts and HIGHTOWER-produced track, Jepsen also unleashed the party-centric music video for the tune.

The four-and-a-half-minute clip begins with Jepsen checking into a rundown-looking hotel. After checking in, the viewer watches the singer get comfortable in her room and head straight for the mini-bar. After riffling through the mini-fridge, she settles on the bed and begins to flips through the channels. That’s when she comes upon a commercial for something called “party for one” which jump starts the music video.

Throughout the clip, several different scenes take place simultaneously in different hotels rooms. While the guests are doing their own things in their rooms, the electricity suddenly goes off. Instead of waiting alone in the dark, the guests make their way to the lobby in an attempt to figure out what’s going on. When they are all in the lobby, the electricity suddenly turns on, reveling a massive lobby party with drinks.

“To me ‘Party for One’ is an anthem of what it is to celebrate time with yourself, which is a hard thing for people to really enjoy sometimes, and it’s something I’m learning to do more and more,” Jepsen said in a statement. “This song represents a lot of what this album is about for me which is romantic love but self-love too.”

“Party of One” comes a year after the pop star released her ultra-catchy summertime hit, “Cut to the Feeling.” In the time in between that and now, she’s released a series of collaborations including “Hate that You Know Me” with Bleachers, “Trouble in the Streets” with BC Unidos, and “Backseat” with Charli XCX.

As if the new song wasn’t enough, Jepsen has confirmed that her new album will see a release time frame of 2019. Jepsen’s last studio album was 2015’s E•MO•TION.
