Get a glimpse of Agrabah, the Cave of Wonders in Disney’s first teaser trailer for ‘Aladdin’

With the success of the live action versions of  “Cinderella,” “The Jungle Book,” and “Beauty and the Beast,” it was only a matter of time before Disney went digging into their archives to pull out another animated film to bring to life. Last year, the House of Mouse formally announced that 1992’s “Aladdin” would be the next animated film to get the live-action treatment.

On Friday (Oct. 12), the media giants unveiled the first teaser trailer for the upcoming new film. The minute-and-a-half teaser begins with a shot of a desert as the shadow of a bird is seen on the sand. The camera follows the bird which turns out to be Jafar’s trusty parrot/snitch, Iago. The camera continues to follow Iago as he soars above Agrabah to another desolate area of the desert. About 45 seconds in, the voice of the Cave of Wonders is heard reciting one of the most famous lines from the original film.

“Only one may enter here,” proclaims the tiger-headed sand creation. “One whose worth lies far within. A diamond in the rough.”

As the Cave of Wonders recites the lines, a shot of three people standing in front of the entrance can be seen. By the headpiece one of them is wearing, we can assume that the person is the Royal Vizier/the film’s villain Jafar while one of the others is the film’s protagonist, Aladdin.

At the one-minute mark, a slowed-down, instrumental version of Genie’s classic song “Friend Like Me” begins to play in the background as the viewer gets their first look at not only the inside of the Cave of Wonders, but also our street rat/hero, Aladdin.

Disney’s “Aladdin” stars Will Smith as Genie, Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari as Royal Vizier Jafar, and Navid Negahban as the Sultan.

Disney’s “Aladdin” will magically appear at a theater near you on May 24, 2019.
