Weezer to finally release ‘The Black Album,’ announce another tour with the Pixies

After years of waiting, Weezer’s black album is finally going to see the light of day. On Thursday (Oct. 11), the California-founded band announced plans to finally release the much-anticipated darker album. The “Buddy Holly” band took to social media to officially announce the record’s release.

“The Black Album era has arrived,” the band posted on the social media platform. Though no official release date was given, the band revealed that the record will arrive sometime in 2019. The Black Album is the follow-up to the group’s surprise album, 2017’s Pacific Daydream.

In addition to announcing the release of their 12th studio album, Weezer also unleashed the first single from the forthcoming record; a track titled “Can’t Knock the Hustle.” Debuting the audio for the new track at midnight, the group followed that up a few hours later by releasing the official music video for the funky new tune which was produced by TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek.

Starring Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz as a ride-sharing driving, the clip follows the unlucky fellow as he has the worst night ever driving a couple to their final destination. The four-minute video beings with the couple getting in to Wentz’s car only to start making out not even a second later.

The woman and man can’t keep their hands off each other, and at one point Wentz who is trying his hardest to ignore the over-the-top PDA happening in his backseat. For the first half of the clip, the couple are all over each other until the woman receives some text messages from another person. Soon, she and her companion start arguing in the backseat with Wentz still trying to ignore the scene. At one point Wentz gets a hold of the woman’s phone only to see a series of sexually-explicit emojis pop up on the screen.

As the ride from hell continues, the woman starts to threaten the man with a spork. At one point, Wentz brakes hard, at a red light resulting in the spork ending up in the man’s upper thigh. To say the video is over the top would be an understatement. Watch “Can’t Knock the Hustle” above.

While a new album announcement and debuting a new single with its corresponding music video would be enough for some bands, Weezer are not just some band. The quartet also unveiled plans to hit the touring circuit in the spring of 2019 with previous tour mates The Pixies. The upcoming trek will being on March 8 at the KFC Yum!
