Weezer may have spent most of the summer playing their epic cover of Toto’s “Africa” around the country, but now the group is giving fans something new and original for the fall months. On Thursday (Sept. 20), the California-founded band unleashed a new, synth-pop tinged song titled “California Snow.” Though the new track may seem like a nice surprise single from the group who just recently took the stage at Riot Fest, the track was actually put together for an upcoming new film.
“California Snow” will reportedly be featured on the soundtrack for Spell, a thriller released by Crush Pictures, a division of the band’s management firm. The score for the forthcoming record was written and composed by Fall Out Boy frontman Patrick Stump. As if having a song on the soundtrack wasn’t enough, it looks like Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo will even have a cameo in the film.
According to a post on the band’s official Twitter account, Cuomo will play a therapist who’s “ready to help you solve all your thorny problems.”
“[Rivers] lends his voice as the therapist & he’s ready to help you solve all your thorny problems. Clearly the only prescription to make anyone better is a new song,” the band’s post reads.

Spell follows Benny (Barak Hardley), a troubled 30-something American on a surreal journey through the Icelandic wilderness following the sudden death of his fiancée.
Spell will debut on Sunday, Sept. 23, at the LA Film Festival.
Last week, Weezer made headlines when Riot Fest organizers announced that they were one of three acts slate to replace Blink-182 at the annual music festival (Taking Back Sunday and Run the Jewels were also confirmed).
