Back in mid June, Alkaline Trio announced plans to hit the road during the months of August and October making some wonder if this meant new tunes from the group was on the horizon. On Thursday (July 19), the California-founded band confirmed the release of their ninth studio album. Titled Is This Thing Cursed?, the impending release is due out Aug. 31 through Epitaph Records.
Pre-orders for the new album are currently available on the band’s website here.
In conjunction with the new album announcement, the band also released the record’s lead single, “Blackbird.” Listen to the three-and-a-half-minute song above.
Is This Thing Cursed? is the follow-up to 2013’s My Shame is True.
News of the new album comes months after bassist Dan Andriano hinted at new music in an interview. During the chat that took place in January of this year, the musician teased that the group was not done making new music.
“There’s not an inch of me that feels like we’re done making music, or we’re done making new stuff.” he explains. “I wanna be a band that people want to hear new stuff from. Because I feel like I’m still in a band that wants to write good, new music.”
In addition to the new album and its single, the band previously announced plans to hit the road during the months of August and October. The upcoming excursion will be split into two legs; the first leg will take place in August while the second will take place in October. The first leg of the tour will kick off on Aug. 3 at the Bomb Factory in Dallas and wrap up on Aug. 26 at the House of Blues in Orlando.
After a month or so away from the North American touring circuit, Alkaline Trio will resume their trek on Oct. 04 at the Observatory in Santa Ana, California. The trek will then conclude a few weeks later on Oct. 18 at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz, California. Garage rock outfit PANGEA will open for Alkaline Trio during the full tour.
