You Me at Six announce new album, drop two new songs

You Me at Six are back at it again. On Wednesday (June 6), the British band announced the impending release of their sixth studio album, VI. The upcoming album is due out Oct. 8 through AWAL Recordings’ new Underdog Records imprint. Pre-orders for the new album are currently available on the band’s website where they are offering several bumdles to choose from.

In conjunction with the new album announcement, the band also debuted not one, but two new songs from the forthcoming ten-track record. The new songs are titled “3AM” and “Fast Forward.” Listen to “3AM” above while “Fast Forward” can be streamed here.

In an interview with Upset Magazine, vocalist Josh Franceschi gave some insight into the inspiration behind “Fast Forward.”

“‘Fast Forward’ is very much a self-assessment song lyrically and I’ll be honest with you – my personal life, and also my life within the band during the whole Night People era, was just sort of coasting,” Franceschi admits.

“Whether it be coasting through bad stuff or good stuff, it was just coasting. There was no flag in the ground moment. Sometimes you have to lose something to know what it meant to you in the first place. With You Me at Six, we felt like we’d lost our way a little bit on the last record, and therefore it made us so hungry.”

VI was recorded at VADA Studios in Alcester on the Warwickshire/Worcestershire border with Dan Austin whose resume features Biffy Clyro, Massive Attack, and the Pixies. This record will also mark the first time the band has co-produced one of their own albums.

VI is the follow-up to the group’s 2017 release, Night People. The complete track listing for VI can be found below.
