Good Charlotte announce ‘Generation RX,’ drop new song

Following weeks of cryptic posts on social media, Good Charlotte have finally confirmed what it was all for. On Friday (May 25), the Baltimore-founded band announced the release of their upcoming seventh studio album. Titled Generation RX, the record is due out Sept. 14 through the band’s newly minted partnership with BMG and their record label imprint, MDDN. The new record was produced by Zakk Cervini and Good Charlotte guitarist/vocalist Benji Madden during intimate sessions at MDDN headquarters.

According to a press statement from the Madden brothers, it looks like Generation RX will find the group going back to their roots. The new album will address social and health issues affecting not only the youth, but everyone while also giving assurance that things will get better.

“At the beginning of the year, we were reflecting a lot. We just played a memorial service in honor of Lil Peep. We were thinking of that. Our generation was the first to have so many ways to deal with pain,” Joel and Benji Madden write in their statement.

“Throughout this century, we’ve seen the whole opioid crisis get worse. We wondered if we were really doing our part. We wanted to get back out there on the battlefield and spread insight, share experience, and give anything we could to improve lives.

The message is you can get through the pain, survive it, and have the life you want. We made the record on our own terms and our own time. In that respect, we channeled the soul of our first two albums. This is the album we’ve been waiting 15 years to create.”

In conjunction with the Generation RX announcement, the quintet also released the album’s first single, “Actual Pain.” Listen to “Actual Pain” above.

Generation RX is the follow-up to Good Charlotte’s 2016 release, Youth Authority.

In support of the new album, Good Charlotte also announced a massive European tour for early 2019.
