Death Cab for Cutie announce fall tour, tease new music

Time to add another major show to your already packed fall concert itinerary. On Tuesday (May 1), Death Cab for Cutie announced plans to hit the road in the fall in support of their much-anticipated, but yet-to-be-announced ninth studio album. The upcoming tour will find the band performing at intimate venues and theaters across North America during the months of September and October.

The fall time excursion will kick off on Sept. 24 at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts in Eugene, Oregon and conclude a month later on Oct. 23 at the Hard Rock Live in Orlando. Pre-sale tickets will go on sale beginning this Wednesday, May 2, at 10 a.m. local time. General tickets sale will then go on sale beginning Friday, May 4, at 10 a.m. local time. According to the band, one dollar from each ticket purchased through their website will be donated to The Aurora Commons.

The Aurora Commons is a Seattle-based non-profit organization which offers a safe space for unhoused neighbors to rest, prepare a meal, connect to resources, and collectively create a healthy and vibrant community.

The news of the upcoming tour comes just as the band finished recording their new album. In conjunction with the tour announcement, the group posted a teaser clip of one of their new tunes. The new song snippet can be heard above.

While Death Cab for Cutie have yet to formally give a name or specific release date for the impending release, fans can at least appreciate the fact that the new album will be out in August. This record will also mark the first release to feature the group’s newest band members, Dave Depper and Zac Rae. Depper and Rae have both been part of Death Cab’s touring band since 2015.

The yet-to-be-titled record will be the follow-up to 2015’s KINTSUGI. The record debuted at the number one spot on Billboard‘s Top Alternative Albums charts and Top Rock Albums chart. The album peaked at the number eight spot on the Billboard 200 chart.
