Imagine Dragons announce massive tour, drop new song

Following days of warning fans that some major news would be heading their way by the end of the week, Imagine Dragons have kept their promise. On Wednesday (Feb. 21), the Las Vegas-founded band unleashed a brand new song titled “Next to Me.” Heading over to Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show, the Grammy-nominated band debuted the brand new song which was produced by Alex Da Kid.

According to frontman Dan Reynolds, the new song is about a person experiencing unconditional love despite their flaws and that writing a love song was unusual for the singer.

“I don’t typically write love songs,” he explains to the host. “It was different, but it was fun and it stretched me…it’s about my frailties within romance.” Listen to “Next to Me” above.

In addition to the release of the new single, the group also announced a massive tour that will find them performing at a slew of North American venues throughout the summer months. The Evolve tour will kick off on June 5 at the XFINITY Theatre in Hartford, Connecticut and wrap up a little over two months later on Aug. 10 at the MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Amphitheatre in Tampa. After several months away from the road, the group will head to the Toyota Stadium in Dallas on Oct. 20.

America’s Got Talent season 11 winner Grace VanderWaal will support the band throughout the North American excursion.

General ticket sales for the shows will go on sale beginning Saturday, March 3, at 10 a.m. local time. Fans can register now for free access to the Ticketmaster Verified Fan pre-sale. As long as fans register before next Tuesday, Feb. 27, they can qualify for the chance to get first dibs on tickets for the shows.

The Evolve tour will be in support of the group’s recently released album, Evolve.

Imagine Dragons’ summer was already shaping up to be a busy one. Earlier this year, HBO Documentary Films announced a partnership with Reynolds and Live Nation Productions for the frontman’s documentary, Believer.

The film follows Reynolds as he takes on a new mission to explore how the Mormon church treats its LGBTQ members. The documentary premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and received a standing ovation from the attendees at its first screening. No date has been given as to when the film will air on HBO.
