The film adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time already has an outstanding cast, a passionate director, and a trailer that will make anyone want to disappear into the dreamy, but weird world. With all that under your belt, how exactly do you follow it up? Simple. You unveil the star-studded lineup for the film’s soundtrack.
On Tuesday (Feb. 20), director Ava DuVernay took to Twitter to officially announced the artists who contributed songs to the A Wrinkle in Time soundtrack. Leading the female-powered soundtrack is legendary singer Sade who has not released any new music since her last album, 2010’s Solider of Love. As per her tweet, DuVernay never imagined that the songstress would agree to contribute a song to the soundtrack, but like the true “goddess” that she is, Sade said yes.
“I never thought she’d say yes, but asked anyway,” DuVernay writes. “She was kind + giving. A goddess. We began a journey together that I’ll never forget. Proud to announce that Sade has created an original song for WRINKLE IN TIME. It’s entitled ‘Flower of the Universe.’ And it’s a dream come true.”
A Wrinkle in Time is based on the 1962 novel by Madeleine L’Engle. The story follows 13-year-old Meg on a quest to find her missing father that leads her on an otherworldly voyage across dimensions. The film is set to hit theaters on March 9.
The film stars Storm Reid as Meg Murray; Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Meg’s mother, Dr. Kate Murry; Chris Pine as Meg’s father Dr. Alex Murry; Reese Witherspoon as Mrs. Whatsit; Mindy Kaling as Mrs. Who; and Oprah Winfrey as Mrs. Which.
