When Paramore made it known that their new album would be heavily influenced by the 80s, they were not lying. On Monday (Feb. 5), the Tennessee-founded band unleashed the music video for their latest single, “Rose-Colored Boy” which finds the band taking some massive cues from vintage news broadcast footage. The music video finds the band taking on the roles of news anchors, dressing like the cheesy 80s part with the obnoxious-colored clothing, big hair, and hazy footage.
The almost-five-minute clip begins with Hayley Williams sitting in front of a vanity trying to get mentally prepared for her program. Taking a deep breath, the viewer watches as she plasters a fake smile on her face before heading out to her place at the news desk for her show. Williams plays the part of the head anchor on Wake Up, Roseville while drummer Zac Farro is the sports anchor and guitarist Taylor York is the weatherman.
As the show goes to commercial break, the viewer watches as Williams does not seem happy about anything, going so far as to throw a stack of papers at an unfortunate production assistant. As all three anchors make their way to the another sets, you can tell that neither of them are truly enjoying their job especially when the studio executives walk in to scold Williams for not smiling enough while Farro and York are also chastised for their own antics.
About three minutes into the clip, Williams is seen in a room with several televisions where Hayley, the anchor, watches Hayley, the kid who wanted to be a journalist, broadcast on the screens. With the removal of the metaphorical “rose-colored glasses,” Williams, York, and Farro flip on the crew and executives that were making them fake happy and throw a party in the newsroom.

“Rose-Colored Boy” is featured on Paramore’s recently released record, After Laughter. The album, the band’s fifth studio album, currently contains a total of four singles; “Hard Times,” “Told You So,” “Fake Happy,” and now “Rose-Colored Boy.”
After Laughter was released in May of 2017 and quickly earned not only praises, but also top spots on many music charts. After Laughter went on to earn the top spot on both Billboard‘s Top Rock Albums chart and Billboard‘s Alternative albums chart. The record reached the number six spot on SoundScan/Billboard’s 200 chart.
The music video’s release comes just as the band is about to embark on their latest tour, “Tour Four,” in Australia and New Zealand. After wrapping up the tour, the group will return to the United States to kick off the third installment of their PARAHOY! Deep Search cruise in April.
